Eagles and Giants - Part 2 (1 Viewer)

Those of you concerned about McNabb and using the first Giants/Eagles matchup as a barometer of what will transpire this week are sadly mistaken.

There were a lot of factors about that first game that made it the pseudo-rout that it was last time (I think it was 16-3), and it wasn't as close as the score indicated. The Giants sacked McNabb what seemed like hundreds of times (but they stopped counting at 12, apparently) and they controlled the entire game.

So what is different?

1. Brian Westbrook is playing. He missed this game, and everyone saw just how important 36 is to that team. He is that offense way more than McNabb is for the Eagles. They are a much different, and much worse, team without Westy.

2. The offensive line is healthier for Philly. Winston Justice had to try and block Osi Umenyiora, who had everything but a red cape when he yelled "Olé!!!" when the bull dashed by six times.

3. The Giants aren't as healthy. Plaxico Burr-ess? Ankle and knee problems. Running back? Reuben Droughns is no Brandon Jacobs, who is more likely than not to miss this game, and if he can go he won't be 100%. The secondary (Gibril Wilson and Co.) is also hurting for Big Blue.

Am I predicting that the Eagles will win? Well, they are favored at home, but the Giants are 8-4. I'm not convinced at all how this game will wind up on the scoreboard, but I will say that with Westy back and a healthier O-line (or "Justice Free") the game will go much differently.

Just keep all of this in mind if you are concerned about putting someone in your fantasy lineup this week - don't expect Philly to do nothing and McNabb to get sacked 10+ times again.

I dont exactly expect a repeat performance, but I'd still expect 5 or so sacks from the Giants. They've just got too many players causing havoc up front to expect them to be held at bay all game long.

Giants are really a walking wounded team right now. Coughlin gets all sorts of criticism as does Eli, but the team is 8-4 (mostly because of a weak NFC) and they are really banged up. Eli has Shockey as his only real receiving threat and that isn't all that good. Plax when healthy is a weapon but seeing how horribly he did nothing on Eli's pick in the end zone shows you that you can't even rely on him to beat a one on on jump ball (let alone GET beat). Toomer is one of the slowest receivers in the NFL and had 2 drops last week. Sinorice Moss has quickness and that is it. The RB situation has been an infirmary and the secondary was playing 2+ guys down and playing guys die hard fans never even heard of (slight hyperbole).Of course the Eagles could win and they have a better chance than the Giants

I looked into the Giants/Eagles matchup last night trying to determine whether or not to start McNabb, and I came up with just about the same thing:1. Healthy line2. Healthy Westy3. This is a must win for the Eagles4. McNabb owns a 85.7 QB Rating against the Giants with 15 TDs and four INTs. With all that said, the Giants rank 11th against the pass and have allowed one TD pass or fewer in four of the last five games. You are correct, expectations should be tempered. I don't believe the Giants shut the Eagles down like the first matchup, but I don't think the Eagles blow the Giants away.

Giants are getting a break if McNabb starts. I'm confident the Giants will find a way to win this game.

How does anyone like the PHI DEF vs. Eli?
As a fan of the Giants, I hate to say this, but I think E. Manning will have a tough day. Burress obviously doesn't have the same "burst" or leaping ability as he did previously due to his ankle injury, and I don't see a limited Jacobs (hamstring) or a slow RB like Droughns taking the pressure off Manning. Manning was abysmal against Chicago until the 4th quarter, and his first interception was a horrible throw--it almost seemed as if the Bear defender (I think it was Urlacher) was the intended target . His second interception (a toss toward Burress in the end zone) was almost as bad, given Burress' limitations due to his injuries (ankle, knee). His fumble when the ball slipped out of his hand as he was trying to throw was pretty bad as well, but what seems to have been overlooked is that even if he had managed to make the throw, there was absolutely no one in the area where he was aiming. Philly's defense is better than the Bears, so I'd say Manning will have that "deer in the headlights" look by about the middle of the second quarter.

I'm in a bad situation having to start McNabb or Rivers at QB this week. I was planning on going with Rivers because McNabb has been hurt and had that terrible game against them last time. Now this topic is making me think harder about this.

Droughns (or as I like to call him - Speed Demon) is awesome. I am predicting at least 200 total yards from him. Giants win 77-0.

I hope you are right. I am a huge Giants fan and hate the eagles more than anything. I picked up Droughns the year he took over in Denver so I have always liked him but he doesn't seem to be that great this year....without Jacobs and/or Ward, they may have a tough game. The Eagles D is looking better and I knew damn well that the Giants blew them out last time because Westbrook wasn't playing. Yeah, the score didn't scream blowout but 12 sacks did.

If Jacobs is hurt and Droughns looks ineffective, look for Bradshaw.

Giants need a Reciever thats healthy with good size and speed. Plax is hurt, Toomer is slow, Moss sucks, and S.Smith the rookie has been hurt since week 2. David Tyree had to save us last week.

PHI Def looks like a good play this week. I'd start Rivers over McNabb.

:thumbup:You were correct Jeff, this game was different in many ways...except for the outcome. Bye, Philly.
