Eagles Postpone Weekly News Conf. (1 Viewer)

I own TO in a league and this likely ruins my chances for the championship, but this is great for football and Andy Reid is my hero.

Cutting him during this year would not save teh Eagles any money. All veteran contracts are guaranteed for the year if they are on the roster in Week 1. Thats why you will occasionally see teams cutting fringe vets at the end of training camp and then re-sign them after the first game. So the Eagles save 4 game checks of money. But TO gets paid the rest of the year whether he is on the 53 man roster or not. The only question is whether the Eagles want/need that 53rd roster spot.

This could almost make me an Eagle fan (okay, if the Rams left St Louis and no new team moved in). I hope they screw him in every way possible. He thought he was bigger than the game and now he finds out that he is not. He screwed SF, screwed Baltimore, tried to screw Philadelphia and now he is...well...screwed.Good job Coach Reid. Stand your ground, you are better off without him.

Somebody will pay him an incentive laden contract for the remaining couple of games
Is he even remotely able to play for another team this year? It was my understanding that he's out for four games with pay -- Sal P. on ESPN said it'd likely be appealed down to 2 or 3 -- and then will be deactivated for the remaining games without pay -- NOT released, NOT cut, meaning he can't play for anyone else in 2005.If so, that, to me, is the Eagles being petty. If he was such a cancer, wouldn't he screw up someone else's team? Let him go somwhere else. This is like a little kid saying, "I don't want that stupid toy because I cut my finger on it when I tried to play with it!" but then, when another kid wants to play with it, kid #1 snatches it up and says "No, Mine!" and then instead of playing with it, promptly stuffs it under the bed where no one else can get it.

OK, so the kid thing was a stretch, but you get the point...if they had REAL balls, they'd say, "Screw you, we're not paying you another cent after the league-mandated 'with-pay' suspension, so go wherever the hell you want."

i like how everyone is counting the eagles out already
Don't you mean we are counting the last place eagles out? And yes, as a skins fan this just made my whole week.
Before all of you other East fans start throwing parties...do remember one thing. The Eagles many be in last place. This is true. But they are only two games out of FIRST place...and they play that team TWICE.

They are only one game behind the other two teams. And they still play each of them once.

All the Eagles have to do, from this point on...is NOT lose Football games, and this thing automatically ties itself up.

Count Andy Reid out iof you want to...that's OK with me. Just promise not to be one of those guys who won't admit they said it when the Iggs win the East...Again.

:blackdot:

Pure speculation.

IF TO were released, who gets priority?

I couldn't imagine SF taking him back. Houston? Tennessee?
I just learned this myself by watching TV last night. But the teams with the current worst records get priority on the waiver wire. Thus, Houston and Green Bay.

I didnt know that. Can someone confirm this, i never heard it before. :)

I disagree with this...as an Eagles fan, I am 50% happy that they got rid of him. But the other 50% of me realizes that they need him to go far in the playoffs. Why would I want him to get to sign with a team like Atlanta or Seattle this year? Yes, he would end up being a headcase on either team, but he would also be an incredible addition to either team this year that could put them over the top, including beating us in the playoffs. Of course it would be great to play and beat his new team in the playoffs, but at this point I don't think that is realistic.

Those of you who think TO should/will latch on with another team must be his fantasy owners engaging in wishful thinking. The Eagles have NO incentive to cut him before the season ends. They're simply not going to. He'll be suspended and then deactivated, like Keyshawn in his last season with the Bucs. End of story.

Yeah Dude...the whole 2 hour DRIVE from DC really killed them to get back to Philly.

Think before you insult the next guy.

My best guess is that the Eagles went through their standard Monday morning activities until Noon.  At this moment, they're probably being informed by front office reps that TO is either being released, suspended for the season, etc.

That way, they'll know the status of the situation, as well as the team's wishes regarding how to handle questions regarding TO, before the press/general public finds out.
Couldn't it just be the fact they had a road night game last night and they are behind schedule as expected?Nothing new on TO front now.

if he is released he goes through waivers. That would mean that the Texans and/or Packers  have the first shot at him.
Why would the Packers want him? If he goes thru waivers it will be after the suspension will it not? I know that right now the Packers may not be mathmatically eliminated from contention, but by then they will. Do you really think the Packers want him for the future when they will have Walker, Murphy, and Ferguson rturning next year? All picking up Owens would do for the Packers is put pressure on their cap and worsen their draft slot.

Philly is scared. Cut him and let someone else pick him up. That will give them the chance to play against him. This is gay. TO is better than the Eagles. They are so toast! no playoffs for them!!! ahahahaha
there is no team in the league that would just release him outright right now. they arent scared they are smart.

thats why they continue to contend every single year.

this may set them back for the present but they will be better off in the future

C'mon Eagles, Put him on waivers after the suspension!!!! Let's see how well he'll do playing with Favre and that line, even Houston would be entertaining. I'm guessing by the second game he'd be wearing a "Dude where's my Carr" T shirt

:goodposting: I forgot about this rule. This just makes it even more certain that T.O. rots in exile until next season.

Confirmed. It's true. That's why you'll see some teams cut a guy then pick him right back up after the season starts.

You can thank Jon Gruden for this.

He had the stones to do the unprecedented;suspend a high profile player, earning big bucks, for the season.

That was the warning shot. Andy Reid did the right thing. He could not afford to have Owens kill any chemistry with the team.

It might have saved their season.
Don't forget Rush Limbaugh.Ever since that incident, it became un-PC to dis Donovan McCow.

Never mind McCow's public statements dissing TO. We MUST take McCow's side here because of the Limbaugh thing.
dude you sig is way to long and its lame on top of it

This is true and many teams will drop players before week one, sign them after so they don't take up the roster spot/game check all year long!

They may win the East...again, but they will also fail to win the Super Bowl...again.

After the suspension is over, TO will probably do something else stupid like going onto the field with the offense anyway, and refusing to leave.

WOW.The inevitable finally happened. It is too bad everything had to go down the way it did, but it is my feeling that TO is mostly to blame. All the reasons for that have been laid out, so let me tell you why the Eagles share in the blame:They should have redone his deal in the off-season to reflect his true worth. TO made a committment to the organization when he did everything in his power to get back for the Superbowl, and that is an objective fact. Many believe he did it for selfish reasons, but the point is that the team objectively benefitted from his committment to get back for that game. What did they do for him? Nothing.I just believe that the front office's pig headedness about "we don't redo deals" was a catalyst for this whole thing; TO felt betrayed, and then didn't have the brain power to come up with a solution beyond that which a 7 year old could conceive of.It is really a sad day for football, as one of the most talented and explosive players is gone for off-field reasons. I hope TO gets some help. It would be a shame if we didn't see him play football again.

I'm not sad one bit. I see this as a glorious day for the NFL. It seems that all the other sports have been taken over by its players. I want these teams to be pig-headed. I want them to demand T.O. be a good teammate or else. He's certainly not the worst human being in the NFL, as there are plenty of wifebeaters and closet poopers out there that are far lower on the food chain than he is. But, he is clearly the WORST teammate you could ever have. And, to see that being punished (or, at least not tolerated), it seriously warms my heart. As a Cowboy fan, I applaud the Eagles, I totally respect Andy Reid, and in a weird way, I'm sort of rooting for them (not so much, but just a little bit).
