I'm biased, and didn't watch every minute of the game, but my general reaction was that for the most part the Eagles did not look ready to play a game and comparatively the Ravens looked almost ready for the regular season. It was like the teams came in with different objectives: The Ravens were trying to win the game, whereas the Eagles seemed to be treating it as another practice. Nothing wrong with that - if that's what they were doing - this early in preseason. On the other hand, if the Eagles really were trying, you guys should either pray some of those injured players come back soon, or prepare yourselves for a long season.
It was good to see McGahee run a stretch play and make some yardage. That's a type of play the Ravens haven't been able to do well with Jamal for a while now.
Ravens LB Antwan Barnes looks like he could be the real deal. He has speed, speed, speed. Twice he got by the Eagles RT #68 (mccoy?) before the guy even got out of his stance. Then again, it could just be that #68 sucks. Hard to tell, but very promising.
Figurs was not particularly impressive from what I saw. Did not show a lot of explosion on his returns - spent a lot of time running sideways. Wouldn't surprise me if BJ Sams handles the returns for another year and Figurs doesn't see the field much unless he improves. As a WR, he dropped an easy pass from Boller. Reports are he has not had great camp either, so it's not like it's a one day thing.
Troy Smith has a ways to go. I liked the running ability and presence in the pocket under pressure, but it didn't seem like he could get through his full progressions. Still, there seems to be some talent to work with. I didn't see much of the 4th quarter, but from what I saw, Drew Olson seemed to have a strong, accurate arm against the burger-flipping squad.
I'm still pinching myself that the Ravens got Gaither with next year's 5th rounder. He made a few mistakes, but for someone who's only been in the league for a month, and is 3 years removed from high school, he acquitted himself pretty nicely.
After having been lulled to sleep by Holcomb, Kolb's throws had much more 'zip' on them. We'll have to see if he knows how to use it. Not so sure about his pocket presence. And does he have a caterpillar growing on his upper lip?
The Eagles seemed to work Celek a fair amount. He seemed to be able to get open, but looked really slow when moving around on the field.
You've got to love Jim Johnson and Rex Ryan. I don't think I have ever seen that much blitzing and pressure on the QBs in a game this early in the preseason. One thing that I noticed (and it was so obvious even Stockton and Moose mentioned it eventually) was that there were relatively few penalties for so early in the preseason (at least through the first half, when the "NFL players" were in there) for both teams, but especially for the Ravens.
Edit to Add: If he stays healthy and keeps progressing, Haloti Ngata may have a pro-bowl year at DT.
