Early Fire Season! (1 Viewer)

Record driest year in CA ever. Carlsbad, N. of San Diego, is on fire. Fire season is normally Aug/Sept. Unheard of to have such a fire in May!

There are 5 fires burning right now in North SD County. Plus one yesterday a little south of that. Driving to/from lunch this afternoon I could see 3 of them easily.

Seven fires in the region now.

Oceanside - A new fire started burning at College Blvd. and N. River Rd. in Oceanside on Wednesday afternoon.

Camp Pendleton - The fire started around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday near the Naval Weapons Station gate on the eastside of base near Fallbrook.

Fallbrook - A new fire started burning Wednesday afternoon, scorching about 20 acres so far.

Escondido - One home burned down and another one is burning at 2183 Bear Valley Pkwy.

Carlsbad - Officials said the fire sparked around 10:40 a.m. along El Camino Real near Poinsettia Lane and Jasper Way.

Carlsbad - Another fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon on Blackrail Rd. and Sapphire Dr.

Bernardo - An estimated 5,000 homes were notified about the Bernardo Fire Tuesday afternoon.

ETA I was told the house fire in Escondido is out now.

CSUSM is now evacuated. There must be a new one in San Marcos somewhere near the 78 & Twin Oaks. Right in my commute home, damn.

Nuclear Plant is way north. And I thought it wasn't online anymore.

Think they said it's 1/4 mile away. Assumed it meant from a fire. Don't know if it's online or not.

That's odd. Of the 7 that Chaka posted, the closest are Camp Pendleton and Oceanside. Maybe there is one in South Orange County too.

My house is surrounded by fires in all directions but they are all 5 miles away. Wife is freaking out though.

There was a truck fire near San Onofre this morning - I drove right past it then 5 mins later it jumped the I-5 and they closed the freeway for a few hours. I believe it's all clear now, I'll have some sights on the way home for sure.

And yes, the nuke plant has been shutdown for a long time. No danger there.

I'd be freaking out too because with the Santa Ana winds howling, embers can fly- but at least humidity will be going up and temps and winds down by Friday.

I've lived in SoCal for 15 years now and these last 2 days are the worst Santa Ana winds I've ever seen. It's 100 degrees and last night the screen door blew off of my sliding glass window. Had to be 40 mph winds at least.

I'm 10 miles south of Irvine right now and you can definitely smell smoke but it's not that bad. No ash falling or anything.

It's been in mostly a holding pattern then last few hours. Hopefully they can get the San Marcos fire under control tonight with he winds dying down. That's the one I'm most concerned about (in Chaka's pic)

Any idea how Irvine is fairing with smoke and such? My dad is there...
Hey curly...Irvine is far away from the fires. Nothing to worry about with regard to your father.
Thanks. He always says everything is fine even when they aren't. I live in N. CA and fear for what can happen up here, much less down there that's already started. Good luck to everyone and be safe!
Im in HB just north of Irvine, its just hot, no fire issues (yet)

Sister is in San Marcos across the FWY from the college. Reports were the fire is moving south away from them and the FWY so thats good news for them.

My niece has been evacuated. My sister thinks she's next. They're in Escondido and La Costa. Have other family and friends in Carlsbad but all close enough to the coast to be safe. I have 15 acres of Avocados SE of the Highway Fire. Irrigation has been running for 24 hours and the perimeter is being soaked.

The images are amazing. I'm nervous because my dad lives alone. He's like maybe 5 miles west (I think it's west) from John Wayne airport/downtown. I kind of wish I was down there with him even though that won't help with any potential disaster.

Stone Brewery is being evacuated and their website is down
The new Palomar hospital, which is literally next door to Stone, was completed late last year. That may be the best thing to ever happen to Stone because there is no way that the city/state won't fight tooth & nail to protect every inch of that land.
