Early Week 5 Rankings (1 Viewer)

Mixon | Left high ankle sprain | Week-to-Week | Doubtful Week 5

Mixon did not return to the game after a fourth-quarter left ankle injury on Thursday night football. A single television angle of the injury was consistent with a high ankle sprain.

It can be difficult to judge the severity of a high ankle injury with video alone. Swelling and stiffness in the first 24-48 hours will determine whether Mixon has a chance to play this week. Do not expect the Bengals to keep the media informed on Mixon's progress. Zac Taylor has already answered vaguely twice when asked.

Mixon has extra recovery time after the Thursday night game. If he's practicing by Thursday, he'll have a chance to be effective. Consider him questionable at best.

High ankle

I watched that game - Mixon was on the sidelines stretching his foot against a wall, and walking around trying to get it loose.

That was not consistent with a high ankle sprain. players with high ankle sprains don’t typically walk around on it.

He’s being called DTD & reportedly has a shot to play week 5, per yesterday’s update.
“Taylor also noted that Mixon will be limited in practice to start the week. An Adam Schefter report from earlier in the day said that Mixon was considered "week-to-week", but Taylor seems to be more optimistic. He was also optimistic when he called Mixon week-to-week last year, only for the back to miss the final ten games of the year in 2020. Still, it's an encouraging sign that Mixon's ankle sprain won't sideline him for long.”

I realize last year’s “week to week” designation for Mixon on a team that lost its QB and had nothing to play for has  people questioning the honesty/severity, but I didn’t see anything that looked like a high ankle sprain. I watched the play he got hurt on a couple times.

We’ll know more if he practices this week in any capacity.
