I'm adding a new line to an existing outlet to power a recessed box I'm putting behind my TV. I added the black and white wires to the same side as the existing black and white wires, but wasn't sure if I should attach the ground to the other ground, as there is only one screw on the outlet for both grounds. Any guidance to prevent burning my house down would be appreciated!

Do an image search for "electrical pigtail" you'll see how to do it. You should not add multiple wires to the screw heads.
