Eli Manning, Retired and the HoF Debate (1 Viewer)

Does anyone think there is a >0% chance that McAdoo comes back next season?
Yep. It's the Giants.

Wellington set up a great system. The Maras meet with every coach every offseason. They met with Coughlin for an entire day and Parcells had stories of an entire weekend.  There are a handful of NFL teams that copy this system in some form. The owners have lists n lists of questions for the coach. That meeting decides if they return- not $ or contract or anything most would assume.

Fans have cried McAdoo lost the team because he benched guys for not showing up to practice. That was wrong and foolish in a sorta knee jerk reaction way. Did you notice Coughlin and Co in Jax benched Fournette and no one said they lost the team? Suspending a player for not showing up to practice will not get a coach fired. That's the reaction owners want- guys held accountable.

It's not McAdoo's fault that a zillion WRs got hurt the same day.

Giants fans got too excited this year and thought their WR corps would win them a ring. They ignored a weak OL and RBs that wouldn't even make other NFL teams. They were really only a .500 ish team. Even their D has a few gems but otherwise some holes.

The Giants run their team as if they've owned it since the dawn of time (and they have) and always look at the big picture. They've never been a franchise to have a new coach every year and make massive changes.

I don't follow them that closely anymore. I used to know them backwards and forwards for like 20-30 years. Everything I've read recently was an overreaction and not McAdoo's fault. Gimme some decent claims that are his fault and I'd support ya, but he is not to blame for the CBs missing practice and I'd put the RBs on the GM not him.

Before ya go there, NFL teams are not supposed to win a Supe every year. Us fans often act like it, but truly they're not. I'm sure the Maras saw this roster and knew it wouldn't be this year. If the GM's draft is fine and his FA pickups are fine, then he won't be fired either for the RBs.

Again though, gimme something McAdoo did that is purely on him and coaching. Then I'd support this.

Another angle which I can see the Giants doing is promoting Spags. They love to promote from within.

As far as Eli- have y'all not noticed how bad the QB position is in the NFL today? They'd have to be half crazy to to let Eli leave. The league is littered with duck-throwers that would never have made teams ten years ago. The QB position, specifically backups, is the worst I've ever seen it

I read some and felt like I should rather than speak out of turn. The Mara's having to talk to ODB and set him straight would be a sign for me. That's not their job but the coach's

Eli Manning deserves better than these Giants. Jerry Reese runs the franchise into the ground and now embarrasses an all-time franchise great with "we need to evaluate." Clean house.

It's what failing franchises and failing businesses do when things are falling apart. Find someone high up to blame and pin it on them, except this is even worse. They're not replacing him to improve their chances at winning by putting in Smith. They're benching Eli to deflect all of the blame onto him to take it off of themselves. Also something I've seen in big businesses. No loyalty. Just passing the blame onto someone else. It doesn't matter what he's done for the organization over the years.

Like I said in the Giants thread, I think there's a much greater chance Eli Manning is back with the team in 2018 now. Giants are looking at a Top 5 pick, and can nab a QB to sit and learn behind Eli for the year/until he's ready.

Eli Manning will be the Giants' starting quarterback for Week 14 against the Cowboys.

What a long, strange 2017 it's been. Manning had his streak of 210 consecutive starts snapped in Week 13 so Geno Smith could generate 212 yards against the Raiders' nonexistent defense in a loss. If the G-Men were going to go to the trouble of benching their shell-of-his-former-self franchise quarterback, it at least should have been for third-rounder Davis Webb. As it is, Manning now seems likely to finish out the year under center before heading elsewhere in 2018. He will be a bottom-barrel QB2 against the Cowboys.

Ernie Accorsi was hired to help the Giants find a new GM. Since being the Giants GM, this has been the consultant work he does for teams. Accorsi is the one that traded to draft Eli and was asked to be part of negotiations with Reese on Eli's no trade clause. The no-trade clause came after Peyton was "dumped from Indy" as the Manning family seems to think of it. It's not a common no-trade clause if Condon brought in Accorsi to help convince Reese to roll with it. What it says though is private within his contract.

Manning would cost 16 mil to cut and 12 mil to keep next year. 2019 is more favorable. I would guess he's there next year, helping to train his replacement.

As I mentioned earlier, the Mara's are an original family of owners. Wellington was fantastic and the ball is named after him. (Just for context of what others thought of him) I couldn't believe Tim Mara (and others) would agree to such a move with Eli. It does not offer tradition and typical Mara ways. I would bet $ here that some Mara said "What did we just do?" and about undid everything with Eli by firing the coach.

I would not be so quick to expect them to dump Eli anymore. Everything changed and "no one" seems to have changed their viewpoint on Eli leaving the Giants to match. They removed the "problem" in McAdoo.

They love Eli and he loves the Giants. Remember the surprise? Well so what is it now? Sorry Eli? Forgivable? I think they all have time to iron things out now

Yeah, I can't imagine him wanting to finish his career in Cleveland. Denver and Jacksonville give him much better chances of winning another ring.

Eli Manning will remain the Giants' starting quarterback for Week 15.

Davis Webb might get a look at some point, but interim coach Steve Spagnuolo has given no indication of when that might be. There are only three games remaining. Manning will be off the Week 15 streaming radar against the Eagles.

I came here to post this. Probably my fault for thinking you weren’t on top of this.

Anyways, I’ve been pimping Eli in the best ball thread for awhile already. He’s so cheap and when you look at his situation, it’s maybe one of the best in the league. Improved OL (how much who knows), gets OBJ back, Engram looks a legitimate target, they added an outstanding pass catching back and (as the article states) Shurmur should put him in better positions to succeed.

I like him as a cheap flier this year. He has tons of weapons and got some help on the oline. I’m buying in my 2qb leagues and if I need a cheap backup in 1qb.

reports are Will Hernandez is a beast, if he pans out, the left side of the line could be tremendous. Eli's best years were when he had a solid o-line.

he should represent MAJOR value this year.

I've always thought Eli was streaky. When he is off he looks *really* off and when he is on he looks as good as anyone. That was true 10 years ago, so when I see him playing bad the past couple of years, I can't tell the difference between what could be his age or what could be him just being in a slump. With the weapons he will have this year, and if the o line really is improved, I'd say there is a good chance he rebounds dramatically. I'd think we would be able to find out pretty early on.

I play in a super-flex so my perspective is a little different.

Personally I put a premium on Manning because he may be the only QB in the league that you can almost (almost) guarantee will start 16 games. There are others who inspire confidence but Manning tops the list. And who else looks to be a durable that you can get at such a value?

Throw in the fact that he has what looks to be his best group of pass catchers of his career and what also looks to be an improved offensive line and I am bullish on him. I think he could finish as a low end #1 QB or are worst, IMO, a mid tier #2.

Barkley goes in the first a lot because of his receiving. Engram ranks as the 4th tight end. Oh yeah, and the Giants have OBJ. Not to mention Shepard. Yet Eli is an afterthought in most fantasy drafts.

Then OBJ goes out and/or Eli decides this is one of those out-of-nowhere 25 interception seasons.

I just traded for OBJ so hope they get this mess sorted out.  Ugh...
QB's like Manning who have no mobility and can't extend plays are obsolete. Barkley is unbelievable, but the Giants may end up regretting not drafting Darnold. It reminds me of when Seattle traded their all world center for Jimmy Graham who ended up having to stay in and block because they had no offensive line or time to get the ball to him.
