Eli's prospects if Nicks can't go (1 Viewer)

Let's assume Nicks can't play Monday night.

Will the giants run the ball for the majority of their snaps?

How many FP do you see Eli realistically getting?

Also, since that's the last game of the week and we may not know until game time, are you Eli owners benching him regardless?

This is just an assumption, but unless you are playing start 2QB or in a 16+ team league, my guess is that if you waited on QB long enough to nab Eli, you probably backed him up with someone equivalent (i.e. if he was 10 off the board in a 12 team league, you probably coupled him with QB 12-14). In that case, you likely have a QB of equal talent (or chances this week), and just go with him. In the one league I got Manning, I also got Kolb...no reason I would delay putting in Kolb. Just looked at another league of mine; the guy who owns Manning, actually owns Brady. My guess is that is a rarity, but I would just assume most have an equal (or better) QB to go with this week.

I just can't see Nicks missing the game so this scerio is difficult for me. For the purpose of the excersize I will say hat I have issues playing Manning no matter the circumstances until he gets his mojo back. His body language speaks a ton. He's lost confidence. There has to be a better option.

IMO that was Smith's absence.Eli likes the underdog WRs. He's always been somewhat pepped up when "nobody" starts to do well. If Nicks sits, and I don't disagree with you, then they need to put in Cruz. Hagan, that big Plax wannabe that went to Washington, Mario and Domenik before anyone cared....Eli has always pepped up for these types. They gotta try out Cruz in a significant role.Barden is missing a career making opportunity.

The trouble has been the line not gelling. For example, last week Baas blocked the wrong man and Diehl didn't change what he was doing to limit the damage Baas's mistake caused. On the INT, McKenzie was supposed to cut or push his man out of the path of the quick pass. He didn't do that and the LB made a great play. The 4th & 1 and 3rd & 1 run plays were blocked wrong as well. Cruz's drop killed another drive. If Eli has lost confidence, it's not in his ability, it would be confidence in his line, and WRs other than Nicks to catch the ball. With the way the line has been playing, I don't think going run-heavy will be an option for the Giants. I think the team will continue to have difficulty consistently getting positive yardage on 1st and 2nd down, forcing the Giants to pass on 3rd & long. I'd like to see Devin Thomas get more work as the 3rd WR, as he was more consistent than Cruz in camp and preseason according to beat writers. It wouldn't surprise me at all if S. Smith is back with the Giants after his 1yr contract with Philly is up.

Pretty poor effort on that play. All he had to do was get his hands down.

Hagan went to Oakland.

I thought he left them for Buff or Miami and then Oakland. Doesn't matter I guess

I see that coming. His stats at Philly will look pathetic to his stats in NYG. Along with plaing time.Who is the TE on this team now. Man they really f'ed up the offseason.

Looks like they still intend to use Beckum as the starting TE if he can get healthy. Till then Ballard is the starting TE and maybe longer if the Oline continues to have issues as he's the best blocking TE. Bear Pascoe was kept because of his dual backup role for TE and FB.I don't see them trading for a TE next season since there seems to be so many talented TEs, they probably think one will be there in FA or the draft. Draft wise is the Giants strongly adhere to BPA, so I don't think they'd spend a low pick on a TE unless one falls to them that is BPA.

If he has lost confidence I doubt it is in his receivers. It's probably his line and his RB's ability to pick up blitzes. Truth be told, Eli is nowhere near his WR's sometimes. Manningham was wide up two times sunday for easy 8 to 12 yard chain movers but Eli skipped the ball to him. Several times he led Nicks and Cruz into a position of danger. It has to be his line because he's feeling pressure that frankly isn't really there. You see much of this pressure every down of every game. Many of these sacks are him feeling pressure that isn't really there and side stepping into an outside rush. He reminds me of when I was a kid and watched Jim Everett. He gets scared and instead of stepping up into the pocket he mentally caves.I could be way off because I really only watch about 20-30 of his snaps a week for fantasy reasons but I've seen this enough to have a sense of what is going on.

The Giants were very surprised Smith went to PHI but Barden and Mario were supposedly enough to fill the gap with Nicks developing so nicely.I highly doubt he returns to the Gmen. He is likely to command big $ and they're soon going to have to pay all these young guys as their rookie deals finish up. It's very uncommon in the NFL to have a huge cap hit due to several WRs making big $ and more common to let them move on and draft some new ones. Beckum is the TE and not going anywhere. I believe Coughlin's quoted comment this week was "Beckum is Beckum." They're very comfortable with him.Gmen don't usually sign FA TEs since they do just fine drafting them. They had plenty of WRs and planned as such. It can't be too much of a stretch to get the TE involved heavily for them. I just don't think they feel they need to change. I think it's easier to put Stokely in the slot and just let him do his thing. He's done it for 100 years, Eli can adjust to that like every other QB Brandon had.Nicks got hurt last week. It's not panic time yet.

Smith may not command a huge contract if he doesn't play much, a decent contract but not as big as if he had stayed with the Giants on a cheap 1year contract and they resigned him.Barden only seems to get injured. I expect him to get cut next off season if he can't stay healthy. No clue where you're seeing confidence in Beckum. Gilbride shouting him off the field in frustration wasn't a good sign. "Beckum is Beckum" sounds to me like "same old, same old" which means he's injured, which he always is, it doesn't sound like a positive comment to me, since most news about Beckum has been negative since he joined the team. Like Barden, both get one more offseason till the team moves on. I think competition for their roster spots will get drafted.
