EPA wants to reduce funding for GLRI by 97% (1 Viewer)

The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative helps clean pollution and prevent against invasive species in the Great Lakes. Both are huge issues for the health of the Great Lakes, and they are about to lose a bunch of funding. This isn't changing a regulation to stimulate business, it's not a wasteful program, and is incredibly vital to Michigan in particular, and the Midwest region as a whole.  It is simply slashing of funding by the new EPA, which looks to be dismantled by this administration. Why protect the largest freshwater resource in the world?

Chesapeake Bay cleanup slashed as well (same 97% I believe). No one to blame other than the Trump admin. I mean who needs clean rivers, lakes, and bays?

I'm not sure about the specific circumstance you are referring to, but as someone who does environmental work, there is tons of unnecessary waste.

Here is a recent example, there is a popular walking / biking trail in my area that they want to extend.  The obvious route extension goes right by an eagle nest.  They have had to come up with 6 alternative routes, that go through neighborhoods, would require crosswalks, boardwalks, etc.  All much more expensive.  Tens of thousands of dollars is being wasted by the municipality because of this nest.  It's not like they want to build a power plant next to it.  It's a nature walking trail for crying out loud.

I've seen entire neighborhoods platted around eagle nest,

We all love nature, but things are a little excessive from my experience.  Eagles aren't even endangered anymore.  They are basically as common as seagulls in Alaska.

Zoom out a little. Bunch of houses jammed close together with some open space and woods in the middle. Failing to see the hardship here. Not failing to see the whining, though.

Rumor has it that there's some waste in the military.   I guess we're slashing their budget as well for the sake of consistency.

Case in point as to why everything can't be left to the states:

Bay states tried and failed for decades to muster the funds and political will to restore the watershed. Then in 2010 the EPA intervened and put bay states on a "pollution diet."

Now, scientists say state and local anti-pollution measures are working, and the bay is finally getting healthier.

Unless you want to talk forced sterilization, then we are going to have to put all of our people somewhere.
