Erik Smith Injured (1 Viewer)

Rovers

Smith hadn't practiced in at least a week, and on Sunday went to the Jets "pracice game" with his knee in a wrap. This morning, it was reported he was back out, on a very wet field and went down, same knee. He was carted off. That's all I have for now, but this could be one of those season ending injuries... will report more when I get it.

Speculative reports suggest it's likely a low quad injury. That may be all there is on him for quite a while.... they waited til just before the season to announce Pouha would be IR'd with a knee last year.

This could mean Eric Coleman will be the full time SS. However, I wanted Coleman just to beat him for the spot and not win it like this.

So will Coleman produce decent fantasy points this year - without E Smith biting into his time or replacing him entirely?

This story is still developing... now rumors say it could be a hamstring. Facts: He could not put any wieght on the right leg at all. When helped off the field by Rhodes and Coleman, they all looked like someone had died... very glum. Beyond that... rumors swirl.

He did have the inside track to start over Coleman before he got hurt. Coleman appears safe now, as the Jets secondary has suddenly gotten very thin. Dyson and Miller both dinged, Smith now, and still no Revis.

The Jets turned to a more traditional SS/FS alignment last year. Rhodes played SS, Coleman FS with Rhodes getting the bulk of the rush and in-the-box responsibility. I'd be pretty leery of Coleman, especially if the Jets defense continues to improve and continues to cut back on the amount of snaps they see. Both Coleman and Pool are going to be drafted too early this year.

I dont know. Pool is going to log a lot of time on the field and should put up numbers based upon offensive offensiveness alone ...This goes hand in hand with my Robaire Smith theory ... also my Leigh Bodden theory ...

2006 total defensive snaps (avg 1000 plays)Cleveland (1041 -- 29th overall)

Brian Russell/Brodney Pool -- 56-15

Pool projected over 16 games -- 52-24

New York Jets (1057 -- 31st overall)

Erik Coleman -- 70-31

Neither team is likely to be on the field more than last season. Neither FS is likely to produce starter quality numbers in most leagues. I'm on board with the Smith and Bodden calls, and I'm interested to see how Pool does, but the FS in this scheme hasn't been a point producer historically.
