Be patient. He'll be picked in a couple more rounds....a few spots after Chatman.

I agree that it's fun to rag on this as this is the premier FF think tank out there, but seriously, what did you expect from ESPN? Hopefully exactly what they're giving us.
Well, admittedly it's great to have this kind of coverage for our hobby but that's what makes it so frustrating. All I can think about is how awesome a draft I could have had drafting with these clowns.

I don't go to many other places, but I would think the average fantasy player is looking down his nose at this production.

For your entertainment and opportunity to go :loco: the annual ESPN Fantasy Draft is6:30pm-8pm eastern. Don't know who is drafting this year.
Wow sounds so interesting and worthwhile and I'd love to but I'll be doing something else. Anything else.

To me, Wingo had the best line of what I watched (about 30 minutes). He cracked on Cato June after he drafted PM with his first pick. When Manning was interviewed a short time later, Wingo stated Juno "still has a man-crush" on Manning.

I think these guys embarrassed themselves and either should put a show together with real experts or just stop it altogether...it hurts their credibility...if ESPN had any left.

"because I watched the ESPN fantasy draft special"

:bs:

In other news, Team Young has a great squad, he didnt embarrass himself.

Through 8 rounds, it looked like Nick Bakay was owning this thing pretty hard.

Jerry O'Connell was doing OK, but who did he ever get at QB?

The funny thing is so many of them were making off-the-wall picks, quite a few ended up with pretty solid teams because they were able to make up for it later. It's not like one or two idiots were drafting with a bunch of people who could take advantage of the situation. All of the dumb picks canceled each other out.

ETA: Except for Team Smith. He has no hope.

They have solid teams because it is an 8 (7.5 actually :X ) team league.......In a 12 league (with guys who subscribe to FBGs ) they would be punished for all that crazy reaching.

I just don't understand this at all...they are running tens of thousands of free ESPN leagues that all have the same format:

10 Teams

No PPR

1 QB

2 RB

1 RB/WR

2 WR

1 TE

1 PK

1 DST

How do they not get 10 guys and craft the draft so that's it's the "Perfect Draft" version of the league format they are actually forcing tens of thousands of people to utilize? :X

What is Steve Young on? I couldn't understand that incoherent rant on Bakay he just spouted.

Michael Smith seems to be picking every other position aside from rb to prove some point that is not yet clear to me.

how does the worlwide leader in sports consistently get fantasy football wrong every season? You would think they would make it a priority to get it right, is someone sitting in an office in Bristol, CT thinking they really "nailed this show?" I would have to think that even ff novices understand some of the issues with the picks being made.

as far as businesses are run, ESPN should outsource their fantasy football to footballguys. At some point keeping it inhouse just doesn't make sense.

Some of you guys take this way too serious. This show was nothing more than a vehicle to get people to use their fantasy leagues. 95% of the audience watching this were probably lightly entertained by it; not everybody playing FF is a dice-rolling die-hard nerd about it.

If they got all serious about it, the casual viewer would flip it off.

 kind of reminds me why i don't like 8 team leagues though. you could draft the waterboy in round 1 and still end up with a good team.

I actually thought Michael Smith knew what his football, not sure if he was blatently trying to lose with his squad, bc it kind of seemed like it, but that was ridiculous

Maybe since everyone was ripping on him and he took ADP ppl will be scared of ADP now though  hah

I don't remember every team exactly, but it looked like it would be between Bakay and Young to me

FWP @ 17...TJ Housh ahead of Wayne and Fitz...Kitna in what, the 3rd? :X

I really hope some of my old high school buddies in my league watched this, but I think they learned their lesson last yr

Most of the real world people that I know that play fantasy football fall into the category of the ESPN drafters. They enjoy getting together, having a few beers and ragging on each other's pick. In fact, even when there is money on the line, they are not pulling out draft dominator and VBD spreadsheets. We on this board are the minority of serious hobbyist, and honestly probably too serious at that.

Great analysis! This is for fun, not a round-by-round analysis. And Michael Smith had the last laugh. Seriously. Actulally heard him say this A.M that Caddilac W killed his team last year because he took him early (and Caddy was an early pick last year) -- despite all of his talk last night about ho you can always find a running back. Gotta say, I like the guy more after last night. :goodposting:

I am deeply saddened that I wasted an hour and a half of my life that I will never be able to get back. Is it just me , or is Nick Bakay's forehead growing more and more each year? I give him another 3 years and he'll look like that kid in the movie Mask.

Two :lmao: s.

Are we to assume they couldn't make an entertaining show and still have a legit VBD based draft? C'mon folks let's be real.

Michael Smith does know his football, for sure. But he also clearly didn't know fantasy football. To be fair though, there was a time when none of us did. I remember my first year, I traded away Emmitt Smith for Ben Coates  My buddy, the guy who got me into fantasy football lo those many years ago, drafted TEs in two of his first three picks one year. There's a learning curve to be sure. If they play this league out (they do, right?), Smith will learn. Ironically, even though he made some mistakes, I don't think MJD and Peterson are horrible in an 8-teamer when push comes to shove. 8-team leagues are so much more fluid, every team is stacked and it's whoever stays healthy and makes savvy waiver pickups that usually wins it.

I'm holding to my position that he is having the laugh last here. As I said above, he took Cadillac early last year in his FF draft -- he KNOWS you take RBs early. I remain convinced that all his talk about "You can always find a running back late"is, what we like to call here, shtick.

:kicksrock: The two primary reasons any of the guys have decent teams is because it's an tiny eight team league, and they were all equally horrible. Someone is praising the Caddy pick in the later rounds? What real league has all these RBs getting to the last few rounds???

The picks were bad, but the banter was brutal. They should've gotten their picks from the Shark Pool and their insults from the FFA.

I TIVO'd this thing and just watched it, had to turn it off after about 15 minutes. I understand that not all football fans are hardcore FFLers, but this is just ridiculous. The world leader in sports isn't even in touch with a product thats driving it's ratings. ESPN has become the the E! Network of sports.
