Hey guys, someone else set this up last year and somehow I managed a top-20 finish in the whole thing. It's free to enter.

I've set up a group called FBG. The password is bacon.

Link to the contest

Hope to see you guys in the contest.

UPDATE: Also for fun I have set up a FBG group for ESPN's pigskin pick'em contest. Again it's free. This is against the spread. Sign up for this too!

2nd contest - picking with point spreads same deal it's free

Joined! Looks like fun, although you can pretty much stack your team however you like, not sure where the skill comes from.

It comes from a couple things. 1) Initially you have your choice of anybody, this is true. But How do you exactly pick Brees vs Brady vs Vick in a given week?2) After the first week, the prices on the players change based on ownership level, but you can keep the guys that you have at the price you got them at (if the price goes down, you hit the "renegotiate" button and it'll automatically revise it downward. Let's say your plan was to have Vick and Brady in week 1 and then switch to Rodgers and Manning in week 2.In week 1, both of these combos cost $12.9m.Now say the price of Vick goes from $6.5m to $6.9m, Brady goes from $6.4m to $6.6m, Rodgers goes from $6.5m to $6.8m and Manning goes from $6.4m to $6.8mYou can keep Vick and Brady for $12.9m, since that's the price you bought them at. However, to switch to Rodgers and Manning now would require $13.6m in cap room - you would need to cut $0.7m in salary elsewhere in order to make the change.Since all players have byes and many get injured (and others just play bad) this will come up often during the season - the fun is in juggling the combos.-QG

One thing to be mindful of - once you cut a guy he's gone at the price you had him.

Example I pick up Rodgers in Week one for $6.4m

Over time is salary goes up to the $8.0m

I'm shuffling around lineups, looking at combos that work and put Eli in there at $6.4m and then submit the lineup.

At this point, to get Rodgers back, it would cost me $8.0m. You have to be 100% sure when you are cutting a guy who has had their price go up.

Yea this is an interesting concept, but I think ESPN fails in the execution (no surprise). There is not enough of a spread in dollar values amongst tiers of players. Not sure how many people here played the old Smallworld salary cap style football, but that actually required some serious strategy. Here you can just load up your roster with the top players in the league at every position.

i think this game is exactly as designed. it isn't meant for the hardcore snooty fbg. it is meant for the average joe. looks like fun to me without having to waste a lot of time on it.

Different kind of challenge. Easy to pick out a top-flight starting line-up at the start but very challenging to keep all of 'em later on.-QG

Up to 10 entries already - cool :)

Btw, they do offer prizes.

1st Place for the season gets a $2000 Best Buy gift card plus an ESPN NFL pack worth $100

2nd Place for the season gets a $1000 Best Buy gift card plus an ESPN NFL pack worth $100

The best score each weeks gets the ESPN NFL pack worth $100.

Not bad for free :)

my thinkning as well , salary gap between elite and marginal players should be greater.

Bump for the folks that haven't seen this and are just bearing down on the season. It's fun and it's free.

One question: I have played fantasy baseball like this where salaries change. Does your cap value change with that.

So player x is worth 5 mil week 1. You have him and he does well, his salary goes up to 5.5 mil. Does your cap go along with it?

It seems by what you said it doesn't. That you have that salary as long as you want it.

If you sign a guy at 5.0 mil, you have him at that salary. If his salary goes up, you keep it at the 5.0 mil until you cut him (Note here - if you cut a guy on Tuesday, if you want him back 2 days later you'll have to pay the higher rate - be careful). If his salary goes down you can hit the "renegotiate" button at the top and it'll automatically drop his salary to the lower level. Players who have had their salary go up ARE NOT impacted by the "renegotiate" button.-QG

I'm in!! Thanks :football:

Is there an advantage to not spend all of the salary cap initially?

I don't really think there is an advantage in and of itself. Theoretically however, you can decide that a lineup of consisting of players totaling under the cap was better than using all the cap money and if you were right you would do better than the max-cap people.-QG

88 in the gridiron

25 in the pick 'em

we gotta couple hours to get to 100! :) (Actually I think you can enter even after that, you'll just be frozen out of the Packers and Saints players this week).

I've played these ESPN freebie games for many years now. For week 1, you can pretty much take whoever you want. After week 1, they start adjusting salaries based on performance. Then once the bye weeks hit, it gets alot tougher to keep a team of studs intact and under the cap. In! Thanks for setting it up

Last bump (other than any bragging updates people wanna make). Sure folks can still get in for week 1 - just can't use NO/GB players obviously. 96 in the gridiron and 32 in the pick 'em. Good stuff.

JUST FYI I tried to fill one of these entries out and I keep getting an error. So I tried guys sorry. That would've made it 97. Sorry guys.

:( What was the error? Did it say the week was closed? Pretty sure you could sign up in subsequent weeks but perhaps you can't do it midweek?-QG

Jacobo, I see you on the list of members in the group. Perhaps it was a temporary glitch? (I got an error message trying to get into the group right before that. See if you have an entry and if you can edit it.

It just lets me pick like 3 or 4 players then it tries to leave the page and says "report bug" in the top left. And my web browser page says its trying to leave the page and I can't do anything and I have to start over. And it says that each time. I've tried like 4 or 5 times. Maybe its too late. ? :)

I think it's just glitching. Try back again in a while. I'm having trouble accessing my own lineup. And I know you can change players midweek in spots that aren't already locked.
