I'm one of I'm guessing lots here who thinks ESPN blows hard in lots of areas ("Who's Now?" should be called "Whoever Thought of This Entertainment tonight Fluff B.S. Should Be F'n Fired!"). But I think they finally got one right for fantasy fanatics like us -- i.e. guys who probably know more than their, cough, "experts" ;) . They've created a Fantasy Hall of Fame that honors all those players who come out of nowhere to kick ### for your teams -- waiver pickups like MJD, touchdown vultures like Alstott...I can think of 20 guys I've had in the past who should be "inducted." Mike Anderson, Volek, Jeffers & Beuerlein, Lamar Smith, Drew Bennett...always fun to think back on the guys you snagged late or picked up off waivers and they performed better than your studs did.

So, while I'm always up for bashing the "Worldwide Leader" I'll also give credit where credit's due, and I think this is a solid fantasy football ad campaign. For the first time, it's a smart look at our obsession, rather than catering to the lowest common denominator and the newbie, which they often seem to do. Anyway, just my 2¢....

That's strange. A hall of fame that doesn't acknowledge the best players just the players picked up off waivers?

Well who can forget Anquan Boldin? First game in the NFL he puts up 200 yards and 2 tds vs the Detroit Lions and the rest as they is history.

That's the humor for me -- they're not honoring the obvious guys who get drafted early year after year in FF (Peyton, LT, Faulk, Emmitt, etc), they're honoring the guys who sometimes make the difference for us FF players -- the sleepers, late rounders, waiver pickups, no names, etc. If you go to the HOF site that's linked from the MJD article on that homepage, and go to the inductees section of the site, you'll see they also induct the studs, but the focus is on the relative unsung guys (e.g. Boldin is an inductee). Poked around the site, pretty fun, but still some sections to be built.

For me I think of Scott Mitchell and Dominic Rhodes............
Mitchell went nuts in 1995: 4338 yds, 32 TDs But I think of drafting him way too early the following year when he blew. :thumbup:Other guys for me past and current:Olandis GaryKordellRodney Hampton (this is going back a ways)Terry AllenBrandon JacobsAlbert Connell

I think these exact words passed through my mind. Now back to the red carpet with sports celebrity lap dog Stuart Scott.BTW- COULD THE BASEBALL TONIGHT CREW BE ANY MORE PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's funny. I am not an ESPN hater, but I absolutely hate this series of commercials. They just come off as incredibly hokey/dorky. Have seen two so far. I can't believe these players were willing to be in them.

I picked up Laverneous late last year .... i think like 11th or 12th round .... he was an absolute stud the entire season in a PPR league.

what about Marcus Robinson.

or as he's better known in my league after a 3TD playoff performance in 1999, Marcus "F**king" Robinson.

Billy Volek and Drew Bennett...wow, what a magical run that was. They won two different leagues for me. Kinda get misty-eyed...

A couple of guys that came out of nowhere...

Dalton Hillard

Antonio Freeman

Randy Mcmichael

Anyone who waivered Kurt Warner after Green's injury.

Not HOF because he single-handedly killed a lot of teams in '04 (including mine), but Kevan Barlow won many people an 2003 championship (including me). 187 total yards and 2 TDs in week 16 that year.

volek had two 400-yd games or something.

Ruben Droughns and his one great year in Denver. Felt like a genius after I picked him up on the wire...
Had Colston for a while last year, picked him up after Week 1 and rode him for a while until he started getting banged up, traded him...but a 7th round NFL pick having a huge fantasy impact is always Hall of Fame-worthy.Speaking of Saints, I'd put Brees into this category...he was going around the 12th round last year and ended up top 5 QB.

On the IDP side...

In a league I was in 2 years ago, my friend lost 2 lbers for a week 16 SB. In complete desperation he picks up NYG LB Chase Blackburn who gets 4 tackles 3 assists, a passed defensed, interception and touchdown from a complete unknown. He wins the game by the slightest edge.

Magic Desert Toads was on the losing end of that game.

Till this day my friend Steve calls it "winning the Chase Blackburn Trophy!"

This sounded like a dumb idea, but the site is actually really well done. The inductees were clearly done by someone who knew their stuff.

Although how did Clinton Portis not make the list?

Edit: And what about Stephen Davis? I'm still mad about drafting Skip Hicks as a sleeper that year instead of him.

Oh, he's in there...go to Inductees on the site, filter by position WR....I've wasted alot of time in this HOF site today, my boss is starting to give me the stink eye. :hey:

Kurt Warner is a lock for fantasy HOF. Most people didn't even know he was on the roster on 1999. Hell when trent Green went down people still didn't have a clue who was the next starting QB would be. But Warner had an incredible first game and the blitz was on. I would take a guess that about 70% of the people who picked up Warner that year either won the championship or made it to the finals.

Thought of some more HOF'ers (for you fellow old timers)....

Mark Rypien, 1991 -- 3,564 yds, 28 TDs

Elvis Grbac, 2000 -- 4,164 yds , 28 TDs

Don Majkowski, 1989 – 4,138 yds, 27 TDs

Jeff Blake, 1995 – 3,822 28 TDs

Jeff Garcia, 2000 (relatively unknown replacement for young) -- 35 total TDs and 4,278 yards.

Derrick Alexander, 2000 – 1,391 yds, 10 TDs

Carl Pickens, 1995 – 1,234 yds, 17 TDs

Tony Martin, 1995 – 1,171, 14 TDs

Germane Crowell, 1999 – 1,338 yds, 7 TDs

Wesley Walls, 1999 -- 822 yds, 12 TDs

Natrone Means, 1994 – 1,350 yds, 12 TDs

Dalton Hilliard, 1989 – 1,262 yds, 13 TDs

Rodney Hampton, 1992 – 1,141 yds, 14 TDs

 ;) I won my league championship with him.

what about Marcus Robinson. or as he's better known in my league after a 3TD playoff performance in 1999, Marcus "F**king" Robinson.
I like the commercial. As far as Marcus Robinson- As my local league was drafting in 1999, it was Dave's pick, and he was thinking about who to pick. We had a preseason game on the tv's- Bears and ??. Bears completed a long touchdown pass and Dave says "I'll take that guy". Who was it? Marcus F'in Robinson.

What is up with no inductees from earlier than 1997? The internet did not invent fantasy football...
I read one of the chats today (some guy named Nate Ravitz, an ESPN writer??) and he said they had a cutoff of 10 years to start with. All the old timers I listed above should be in there, I think.

:excited: Maybe they should have gotten beyond the "breaking ground" stage? ;) They had some good guys on their list, though...went back farther than ESPN's does, but I read in that interview (I posted about above) that ESPN imposed a 10-year cutoff to start with and might expand later.

1998 - I picked Randall Cunningham in one of the last few rounds as a longshot. Brad Johnson goes down and Cunningham finishes the season with 3700+ yards, 34 TDs and a Co-MVP.

Others have mentioned:

Terry Allen - 1996

Patrick Jeffers - 1999

I'll also add:

Muhsin Muhammad - 2004

Kurt Warner is a lock for fantasy HOF. Most people didn't even know he was on the roster on 1999. Hell when trent Green went down people still didn't have a clue who was the next starting QB would be. But Warner had an incredible first game and the blitz was on. My opponent in the Super Bowl that year had both Warner AND Faulk. I suppose I should nominate Brad Johnson (471 yards, 2TDs, and 1 rushing TD) and Miami rookie RB J.J. Johnson (100+yds and a TD--he was my Cecil Collins handcuff) along with Gary (180 yards) for their spots in the Hall, because there's no way in he11 I should've beaten that guy...

All three are in, but Allen isn't only because of their silly 10-year cutoff. His sick 1996 season was worth TWO nominations!

The 1999 Olandis and Marcus WW combo led my team to the 2nd of three straight championships.

They will always hold a special place in my heart.

2000 Daunte Culpepper should get an out of nowhere.

we have a 12 week season, playoffs begin week 13.

in 2001 my brother's team's starting QB (don't remember who it was-maybe Favre or McNair) was listed as questionable for week 13. Culpepper had gotten hurt in week 12 and was also listed as questionable. my bro picks up Bouman off the waiver wire just in case, and waits until Sunday morning to decide what he's going to do. he ends up starting Bouman who goes off for 348 yards and 4 TDs and my bro ends up barely winning his game (Bouman scored roughly 1/2 of his team's points.)

Bouman had never started a game for any team in our league before that day and hasn't started a game since, but to this day holds the all-time scoring average per game started in our league.

just one more FF HOF story to add to the millions already out there. the legends live forever.

One Name:

SAMKON GADO in 2005. :goodposting:

From 3rd string waiver fodder to Kool-aid-inspiring fantasy god for about 6 or 8 games, and then fades into the ether.

Billy Volek and Drew Bennett...wow, what a magical run that was. They won two different leagues for me. Kinda get misty-eyed...
Not to sidetrack the HOF discussion, but how did you win leagues with Billy Volek? He was a monster for three weeks but didn't he put up a zero in week sixteen?I remember because I was up against his owner in the finals. By the time week 16 rolled around I think anyone who had him was starting him, even over top tier QBs. Then he pulled the chute and crushed the hopes of most of his owners unless they got really lucky on the other matchups. I think Volek must hold the record for being on the most fantasy football runn-ups in a single year.

They should give a special award to Rodney Harrison for the cheapshot that took out Trent Green to pave the way for Warner.
