ESPN/NFLN analysts ordered not to spoil draft picks this year (1 Viewer)

I dont know, the draft coverage of TV was awful this year -- there were times that they were 3 picks behind and kind of waiting for Goodell to announce the pick.
I don't know this for sure, but I don't think this is something that is new (or at least, maybe since the clock went from 15 minutes to 10 mins). It's quite possible that the 32 teams have been a couple picks ahead for years now, but we just didn't know it because we weren't being told like we now are. Personally I remember a bunch of times seeing "the pick is in" and no announcement or seeing the clock go to 0:00 but no running to the podium by other teams like we've seen in the past a couple times.

NFLN did a fantastic job last night if you're a person who didn't want any sort of early info, beyond a limited amount of discussing rumors from Jeremiah and Rapaport.
Mayock said "EJ Manual is a darkhorse here".....kind of hails back to the days when Chris Berman would magically guess the right player right before they rolled to the commish.
Mayock was nostradamus last night.
I think he actually had insider info prior to the start of the draft, but I was upset that he called it right as the commish announced the pick
Then you really shouldn't have watched ESPN, because Shefter was much, much worse. Calling the pick beforehand, but not admitting he already knew.
He only called 2 or 3 of them beforehand and one of them was wrong.

was watching NFL.com/Live

CBS sports was 2 picks ahead of the coverage on TV all night long. If you really would like to know, just go to the draft tracker on the CBS NFL draft page and follow there. No need for twitter. If you don't want to know, just watch it on tv.

The logjam got pretty funny on that Atlanta trade. All the NFLN guys were convinced that they had just traded up for Eifert, but actually Eifert had already been drafted before the trade ever happened.

I've been to a team's draft headquarters/party before, and the team's pick was announced there at least a full minute before it was announced by the commissioner (then Tagliabue) on TV. So if that's still the case today, you can't fault local team reporters for Tweeting out news that they already have verified.

I found it painful to watch personally. On the ESPN telecast you could see the board behind them showing what pick they were "really" on and that we were just being drug along for TV purposes. Very frustrating. Far better last year, from my perspective. But it looks like quite a few of you enjoyed it, so that is good. Just was not my thing.
NFLN>ESPN.
wouldnt have mattered in this case. They were on pick 32 before Goodell announced pick 29. It was just a way to drag on the picks even longer.

After the first pick on ESPN, Berman said they were cutting to a commercial but that they would be commercial free for the rest of the night thanks to [insert a couple of sponsors]. Meanwhile, they had a commercial after just about every pick. Did I hear him wrong?

When Mayock said something to the effect of "the bills could go E.J.Manuel here..." my first thought was 'he knows the pick but cannot spoil it so he'll throw it out as a possibility to look smart"

But Mayock did that on several picks and missed them. I don't think he had the picks in advance.

I think some of the logjams were created by special presentations they were having on stage. The Boston tribute took a while and I think 3 teams had their picks in basically at that point. They want to do special things like this (which is fine) but can't pause the draft clock since that would give teams an unfair advantage. What results is a backlog of announcements.

IMO it's not. I want the draft to see the picks and analysis, not a tribute show. Bless the troops and people in Boston, but the draft is not the place for it.

He only said it was going to be the first hour that was going to be commercial free.
