Eurovision Song Contest - Netflix movie staring Ferrell and McAdams (1 Viewer)

Did a search and didn’t see anything about this Netflix comedy starring Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams as an underdog duo from Iceland competing in the Eurovision Song Context. The movie is pretty much exactly what you imagine it to be, hitting all of the expected notes (pun intended).  Nevertheless, despite it’s predictable plot and groan-worthy moments, I enjoyed it. But the real highlight of the film is the final song (performed largely by Swedish singer Molly Sanden with McAdams lip syncing). From a purely songwriting standpoint, it is a real masterpiece, and Molly Sanden’s voice is absolutely stunning. I’d never heard of her before, but this film has led me to find some of her other music and I’m a fan.

Anyway, may not be thread-worthy, but I figured what the heck. Maybe others have seen the film. That said, I think Will Ferrell’s ability to pull off roles like this may be coming to an end. He looked way too old.

I swear with any Ferrell movie any more they just don't bother with a script and just let him ad lib his way through it.

I thought this movie was funny, very predictable, but entertaining

Agreed with this. My wife was watching and I walked in at "the elves went too far". Watched the rest and found it entertaining. Also, the song "jaja ding dong" is really funny. My mother-in-law loves the song but has no idea what the lyrics are, so we just roll with it.

Saw some of it. Sorry, GBs, but not feeling it. Formulaic Ferrell stuff. One thumb down.

And how does anybody miss the Ja Ja Ding Dong song in 2020? Oooof.

Thought it was fine for what it was - enjoyable in a Will Ferrelesque Pitch Perfect kind of way - Watched it when it first came on Netflix with the wife and kids and we had a few laughs - hasn't merited a rewatch though if it popped on I would probably not bother trying to find something else.

Agree with most of the responses in here.  It was enjoyable.  I've never particularly liked McAdams much for whatever reason, but thought she was great in this.
