Explain this to me... (1 Viewer)

Why don't the Colorado Rockies assemble a starting staff comprised entirely of sinkerballers?

Are good ones like Wang (or even average ones) too hard to find?

Seems to me they would have a fighting chance every year at Coors with pitchers who throw bowling balls up there.

Can you name 5 solid sinkerball pitchers?

The Rockies have done their best to assemble a staff of good pitchers. I think they've done fairly well avoiding extreme flyball pitchers. But pitching is an art form, and you need good pitchers....not necessarily sinkerballers.

As to your original question.....wouldn't every team try to assemble a staff of strike out pitchers? If you can't hit the ball, you can't get on base.

I would think that the thin air would cause the sinker to not sink as much...

But since they have the humidor now, it is difficult to say...

Webb has trouble in Coors (12 starts, 1.52 WHIP, 4.40 ERA, 50-33 K-BB)

Zambrano has been so-so, with limited PT there (3 starts, 1.17 WHIP, 4.12 ERA, 13-6 K-BB)

Maddux has struggled (9 starts, 5.86 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, although a good K-BB of 27-6 K-BB, most of that was probably when Coors played as an extreme hitters park)

Lowe has struggled (6 starts, 4.84 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, 15-12 K-BB)

Right. I think the ball still doesn't break the same way in the air there, despite the humidor.
