Fanball... Server Problems (1 Viewer)

:D

Strike three this year. Couldn't talk my commissioner out of leaving fanball.

Hopefully they run redundant servers, otherwise we are screwed.

NO LEAGUE FOUND

UGH, that sucks. Sorry to hear that.

Yes, I saw that. I'm in a league run by fanball. I run 2 leagues with myfantasyleague.com and have been happy with them for years.

Here's what mine said.

Is Paul Charchian still running the show over there.

Those guys are completely incompetent. Joined with them many years back. The entire operation was--and still is, apparently--a joke.

Mine's fine except for the fact that, going into week 2, we still can't perform ANY transactions w/o commissioner intervention.

Sounds like they lost a piece of hardware.

I think Charch sold it and is long gone. My league disappeared around 10:00/11:00 p.m. EST last night. Nothing but error messages saying stuff like this site has been erased. They did some sort of software "upgrade" over the summer and it has been pretty bad so far this season. Settings for IR, OT players, waivers, etc. that I set up our first year there in 2003 and never had to think about again were lost. I've been putting fires out daily. I was always a supporter, but I'm looking elsewhere and scrambling to get a new site up.If there's enough commotion from the community here, maybe one of the other league manager sites will offer some sort of promotion to Fanball commissioners to switch over. I just started a free 4-week trial at MFL, but if anyone wants to recommend something better, I'm all ears.I'm looking for a good Message Board (CBS' drives me crazy), being able to post weekly league reports on the home page, being able to program in my league's past history, good live scoring and all of the other basic stuff you would expect.

Our league is still active (we don't use it now though) but I switched to CBS Sportsline Tuesday. Fanball is headed for disaster. There's a promotion where if you know someone who runs a league on Sportsline, they get a $100 check for referring a new league. My buddy referred our league. He'll take $25, and I'll get $75 (he gets the $100 check, so you can't split it up automatically), so the league fee will be $180 minus $75. They have to follow a link on their homepage and you must click on their invite and sign up through that link when setting up your league. Also, I talked to Sportsline and asked them to honor the early bird special of $129.99 as I was having a hard time convincing our league members to pay the $180. They agree, so it only cost $55 for Sportsline this year after the $75 referral I'll get from my buddy and the reduced $129.99 for the league. You'll have to call them though (don't pay online) at 877-266-6474. I spoke w/ a Nate, who honored the $129.99. That's less than Fanball after it's all said and done. Now I'll work on my Fanball refund.

1 still there

1 gone

I'm done

I've given them the benefit of the doubt the last couple of years with their annual first week CF, because rest of the year ends up being run with limited to no problems, but this is it.

My league is down too. Unreal how incompetent these guys are. Past years haven't been this bad, it's been a total debacle this season.

Anyone recommend any other sites? I have a league on CBS, not a fan of the homepage layout or the live scoring layout. I've heard some good things about MFL but I don't think they can handle our league schedule of one win for head to head and one win each week if you finish top 7 of 14 in scoring.

why do people pay for sites? ESPN is free, and it does just about everything...only thing it is missing is blind bid free agency. It even builds league histories.

What does CBS offer that MFL dosen't that would justify a $100 price hike over them?

You guys are probably overreacting. Fanball has a lot of problems but I doubt they deleted you're leagues (unless maybe you never paid? they have a trial period that if you pass they delete it right?). I've gotten those same messages several times and I've always just tried again and its gone through. I'd try again later before assuming the worst.

:confused:Fanball has not been stable. But lets not say all leagues are gone because of a simple server error. I have been with them for 5 years and for the most part been happy. But next year I will be looking else where. I have given them enough chances.

I'm not sure what's going on for you guys, but the title of this thread is really misleading and should probably be edited. It about gave me a heart attack, but my league is there and fine.

No arguments that Fanball is terrible and we're done after this year, but it seems like the problem is most likely just a server issue and not actually leagues being deleted. Regardless, the site is not dead and all leagues are not erased.

A website that doesn't look like it was made in a blender?

I agree. The leagues are still there. I was getting a message earlier that it could not find the requested league but have had no problems now accessing it. All our records, players, etc. are still there.

Good to know, I wasn't aware of this. Once they get the blind bid pickups, sign me up.
Not sure if ESPN has anything that Yahoo doesn't, but yahoo instituted blind bidding free agency this year. I already loved yahoo's setup anyways so this really put it over the top for me. I do pay for a site called sandbox but thats because I started there when it was free like 11 years back and been playing with the same group of guys since for the most part, but thinking about trying to move everyone over to yahoo next season.

If you go with MFL (www.myfantasyleague.com) make sure to check your FBG Subscriber page. There is a link there for a discount.

Also, feel free to use my league # as a referral, MFL # 31943

MFL just has so many great features, is real flexible with the draft (you can do a "live draft" but stagger it over days/weeks if you have peeople all over the country, like the FBG-led Anarchy1-4 leagues) and all the custom stuff you can put on your home page is just blows away ESPN & CBS.

I am in money leagues with friends on CBS & ESPN also, but by far my favorite leagues are those run on MFL. In 2010, make sure to sign up your league there before June, and its like half price.

 A few extra bucks per owner and you've got a much better looking site with tons of information.

Here's Fanball's message at the top of my home page:

"League Access Interrupted for Some Leagues on Friday Night: We sincerely apologize for the problems that some of you experienced accessing your league last night and early this morning, Saturday, September 19. At approximately 1:30 AM ET, one of our database RAID (redundant disk drives) controllers recognized an error. Although no data was lost, the error caused the server to stop, thus preventing access to about half of the Commissioner NFL leagues. We have resolved this problem and you now should be able to access your leagues. We are very sorry that this hardware error occurred and any inconvenience it may have caused you. Thank you for your patience while we worked to correct this as quickly as possible."

I'm currently taking bets on what tomorrow's error message will be.

It also makes me nervous when they say that the coming days and weeks will bring improvements and changes to exceed your expectations. Oh brother. How about stop screwing w/ stuff and provide what you said you would? I'd be very surprised if there weren't major problems again this week. Might be time to cut your losses and move to another site. They WILL give a refund. See my post above.

Week 1 overreation! Oh, wrong thread... my bad.

Servers go down. Even Gmail went down just a couple weeks ago. It requires a whole 'nother level of network sophistication to route around dead servers which apparently Fanball does not possess. They would be smart to use Amazon's AWS cloud database technology. Anyway, waaaay off track...

Are you in a Yahoo free league or a pay league?

I don't get why people pay for problem ridden sites like Fanball and MFL when ESPN is free and does not have these problems. A few extra bucks per owner and you've got a much better looking site with tons of information.
A few more bucks per owner and you get MFL's home page completely tailored. It would look better than anything you've seen AND perform better than any site out there.

I would disagree with that. I can count on one hand the number of good looking MFL sites I've seen. Most of the custom sites go for "flash" and not usability, with menus all over the place and commonly used functions buried in one of those many menus. I am the commish of only one league and I *do* host it on MFL as I believe it's the best hosting site out there. But I cannot for the life of me understand why the folks at MFL don't just pony up $5,000 and hire a professional design team to create a website that is both attractive and functional and put a stop the MODULE OVERLOAD.

MFL had some availability problems during the height of drafting in the summer, but to lump them in with Fanball is absurd.

Agree, I think MFL can really corner the market if their design wasnt stuck in 1998.

I have had other problems besides that. For you to think you know everything about everyone's experiences is absurd. :goodposting:

No site is without flaws, but if you look at the threads started about problems with Fanball and problems with MFL, youd realize the sites are not comparable. And that doesnt even take into account MFL's support, which is top notch. Most of the problems Ive heard about regarding MFL were not problems with MFL per se, but misunderstandings or mistake by its users. This thread immediately came to mind, where someone from MFL actually came to this board to help clarify and fix a problem.

:lmao: I have had problems with emails from the website, the live draft function, live scoring (not just on the 1st weekend) and customer service (which is not as good as some people want to make it out to be). I guess I am just being absurd, though.
