Fantasy Baseball Players Championship (1 Viewer)

So the main event is now cancelled???
That is correct. :( Unfortunately we just did not get enough teams to offset what would have been a major loss. So we wanted to make sure all of our players had alternatives to still play this season without being left out. And we didn't want to jeopardize the long-term success we have had with the football side of things over at the FFPC. In large part, those were the reasons the decision was made.
I have to take issue with this. Sorry i know im late to the party but I have to call you out here Eric. You specifically told me in private messages when i was considering joining, how its a no brainer since you'll be paying out that prize if there's 110 teams or 224. Was this just a ploy to get me to sign up knowing full well you guys would cancel this at some point if there were not enough entries? and/or a loss would be realised? This was only a month ago we were messaging about it and im just seeing now it was canceled. Please tell me why you were giving me faulty info. Just to clarify, i have no issue with you canceling it, my issue is you telling me it would run no matter what...

Appreciate it.

Here is the exact message from you after i asked whether this would still run if u dont meet the capped # of teams:

Definitely. :) That's why it's such a smart decision to play us this year. We basically have zero shot of getting 224 teams and our payout percentage will end up being over 100%. Our prize structure remains the same whether we get 112 teams or 224 teams. It is actually illegal to change it now.

So yea i feel a bit misled as u can see ..

I'm sorry that you feel that way, and I'm sorry about our mis-communication--that was obviously not my intention.

To clear things up, we were not trying to "trick" players into registering. We were very explicit about what each of them was signing up for. However, when the decision was made to cancel it, we didn't just change the format and tell players that this new format was the rules they were playing under now. We gave everyone the option for a full refund or they could use their entry fee to play in one of the $20,000 leagues we were offering. No one was forced into these leagues, and the people that didn't want to play got all of their money back.

As I stated in messages to you, our Main Event prize structure wouldn't change no matter the number of teams we got. However, when the decision was made to cancel the event entirely, the Main Event ceased to exist. This clause is actually listed in our rules posted on our site that we could choose to cancel the Main Event before leagues were drafted. I never said the Main Event would go off no matter what. I just simply stated that our Main Event prize structure would remain unchanged based on the the number of teams we got. Once we announce the structure, it is in fact illegal to modify it without canceling the original event first.

The information I passed along to you wasn't faulty--it was correct. I apologize if I did not make it clear enough though.

I also want to add this to Eric's answer. As we saw the FBPC Main Event sales progress through January/February, it became clear to us that we were not reaching 224 teams (our contest cap) but we were fully prepared to run the contest at 196, 182 and probably even as low as 168 teams. Eric tried his best to reach out to players and invite them to participate and he was being 100% truthful when he said the contest would run below 224 teams with the announced prize structure. But as we reached March, sales were stagnating and were much lower than even our lowest projections. Now, the reasons for these stagnant sales are a separate matter but the reality is, it became suddenly clear to us that cancelling this contest was the most prudent option, which Eric addressed earlier in this thread.

It's also worth adding here that while we tried to wait as long as possible to see if we could get more teams into the contest, we also didn't want to wait until just a few days prior to the drafts to cancel. We announced the cancellation with plenty of time for players to seek other options, processed refunds immediately and we also gave them our own option to enter the FBPC $20,000 leagues, which many players took advantage of. Overall, this was not an easy situation at all but we tried to handle it as best we could, while keeping the player's best interest in mind to the best of our ability.

As low as 168, but not 112 as in his reply.

Nice work, boys.
Eric was clearly referring the the guaranteed prize structure which would have to be the same at 112 teams or 224 teams.

Look guys, we have explained this as best as we could but you can believe what you want, clearly. Our organization has a proven track record with the FFPC since 2008 where we have always been transparent and truthful in everything we have ever done and thousands of our FFPC players know this well.

The point that I was making in my reply was that the prize structure would have been the same at 112, 168 or 224 teams.
Think we're arguing semantics here. You knew full well this tournament wouldnt even run at 112 teams (illustrated by Alex's post above), so to even suggest the payouts would be the same at 112 teams is just misleading. If i joined after seeing that, only to watch it get canceled, i'd be fuming to be honest. (Yes i know its in the rules that you can cancel the tournament) If u want my honest opinion, I think you guys were seeing the handwriting on the wall early on, and were trying really hard to get some entries. At that point think were was like 102 teams or something. But hey im not here to argue, i play in the FFPC and its very well run and have had zero complaints. And i do think canceling it when u did (timing wise) was the right thing to do. At the end of the day, I would have preferred a lil more transparency about an actual bottom line # of teams needed. In fact, you should probably put that in your rules for next year just to avoid any confusion like this.

Again, i appreciate the FFPC and all the work that goes into it, and I will be there again this yr.

Good luck

Thanks for your input and feedback--much appreciated!

To be honest with you, we never had a set number in stone of how many teams we would need by a certain date to cancel it. Whether it was 224, 168, 112, 56 teams with three months, two months or a month to go before drafts started, we were always basing it on a feel for how many more teams we would get. So 112 was still in play at the point I told you it was. Our focus was completely on getting teams registered, and we never even thought about canceling until the day we did. We made the announcement early enough in the game to allow players enough time to make contingent plans for other drafts.

You bring up a great point about minimum number of teams needed to make sure it does not canceled. An addendum like that to our rules is something we'll look at for 2015 when we devise a prize structure for sure.

Thanks so much for your continued FFPC support and support for our decision to cancel the 2014 FBPC Main Event, Gildz! If you're drafting live, I'd love to meet you in person over drinks. :)

But in the original post you did write "We built this contest based on getting 224 teams, but we'll award those prizes regardless of how many teams we get."

It's right there in the 4th paragraph of the initial post. You are not saying the prize structure won't change regardless of the number of teams, you are clearly saying that these prizes will be awarded.

You also said on Jan 25th "With fewer than 50 teams registered so far, the return-on-investment will be the best in the industry." You do not say the ROI has the potential to be the best in the industry. You say the ROI will be the best.

And then on Jan 31 "the Fantasy Baseball Players Championship will feature the best return-on-investment for high stakes fantasy baseball again this year". Once again you are promising that this contest will run.

So the information passed along was faulty.

I like the post-opening day rebuttal here. Made him think he was out of the woods, then BAM.

I can appreciate why you feel the information I gave you was faulty, Patrick. If you want to PM me your real name, I can double check and make sure you've already received your FBPC refund for the entry fee you paid. Given that we gave players more than two weeks notice about canceling before Opening Day, hopefully you were able to find another high stakes contest to play for 2014.

I know that no one has a real interest in reading posts about semantics, so I'll keep it short and reiterate what I said earlier. Everything I told you was based on the contest going forward. Had we not canceled the Main Event, those were the prizes regardless of the number of teams we got. And while we were offering the contest, the FBPC Main Event was indeed the best ROI in the industry.

Obviously, once the contest ceased to exist--something that was stated in our rules as a possibility--we were not going to pay out prizes for a contest that never happened.

I am sorry that being a customer of ours has left a bad taste in your mouth--that is not what we strive for at all. If there's anything I can do for you personally, please let me know.

I got my refund.

I appreciate that you gave two weeks+ notice for cancelling. Thank you.

I found another contest. (thanks RnR)

I do understand why you cancelled it but I don't appreciate being mislead. Everything was about this will be the best ROI. No matter the # of entries... I won't do any more quotes but you guys sent out an e-mail newsletter saying ~116 teams registered and your not going to get 224 but somewhere around ~154 and then two days later => CANCELLED!

Da Glidz pretty much covered everything so there is no point in me writing it again.

I'm over it now.

Good luck in your future endeavours!
