As a LM you have tons of problems/questions on your mind concerning your settings/rules/members/etc. in your league.
I've searched the forums for a general sets of rules regarding football fantasy leagues but didn't find one.
So I wanted to start a thread to gather all the important rules for a league, especially for start-up leagues (and stop the hundreds of threads concerning those basic questions).
I know there are lots of different league formats (PPR, IDP, Standard, High-Scoring, TD-only, money-leagues,...) but there has to be a common guideline for those leagues, where problems/questions overlap.
I want to focus on the core (basic) rules: which rules must be in a rulebook...what are the important general rules in your league...(try to keep it as common as possible)
e.g.: What are your rules against tanking? What are your rules for trading? do you have veto rules? what to do with inactive members? Should it be allowed to add players just to harm your opponents?...
BASIC RULES: (just my basic and expandable idea, how I want it to be)
Tanking
Definition:
A team who's aiming for the last place to gain the advantage of the overall 1st draft pick by manipulating his lineup to the worse (starting injured players, leave roster spots empty, etc.). In most leagues the last placed team gets the overall 1st-pick to help him to rebuild his squad.
Rule:
Every team must have a valid roster at the start of the gameweek (no empty spots or players who've been ruled out/injured are allowed in the active roster). You must start your best possible players on each position.
Violation:
If you started invalid player(s) on purpose, you will lose your 1st Rd. pick, if you get caught again you will be deleted from the league.
Exceptions:
If a player gets hurt on matchday or is ruled out just hours before the roster is locked, you will not be punished.
Problems:
Difficult to decide who's a bad/better player to start (e.g. Week 1: C.Newton over Big Ben/M.Ryan, sure Newton has put big points to the scoring board but the intention could have been to start the worst option of those three QBs)
Inactive Owner
Definition:
League member who leaves his roster unmanaged/ has an invalid active roster (active roster with ruled out or bye-week players).
Rule:
You must have an active roster on every gameweek. If you're not in the position to set up an active lineup (vacation, b-day,...) tell the LM in advance.
Violation:
If the member isn't responding to e-mails and deadlines within time frame, he will be deleted.
Exceptions:
Member is not home and set his lineup in advance and has contacted the league about his status.
Problems:
Member is gone for 3-4weeks and he let's you know that you should set his lineup every week. Members absence was caused by a "higher cause".
