We’ve made it kids. The long, dry and lame offseason, filled with deflated football talk and lots of things that are not NFL football, is over.

Now it’s time for the serious business. We’ve pulled together the staff’s starting lineups for this week (subscription required) to take a look at what they’re doing so you can have their expert edge this weekend.

STAFF TRENDS

Flex Appeal

Most of the staff leaned on wide receivers for their flex spot this week, with just two of seven adding a third running back as opposed to a fourth wide receiver. Of those two, James Brimacomb went with three stud running backs, and made up for it by saving money on a flier at tight end (Richard Rodgers) while Alex Miglio still spent significant money on receivers, opting for two shakier running backs (Bishop Sankey and Danny Woodhead) to pair with Adrian Peterson.

Tannehill is the man…ehill

Out of seven owners, three are rolling with Tannehill. Facing a weak Washington defense and at a pretty nice price point, of $6800, he's a good way to save some cap room to apply elsewhere. Of course, the risk is always that Tannehill underperforms, but he has a lot of new weapons and Branden Albert should play so the offensive line isn’t an issue.

GLARING OMISSIONS

No Brady, No Rodgers

Clearly the guys didn’t love the price point on Aaron Rodgers, but it’s a bit surprising nobody went with Tom Brady and clearly if you didn’t, you were missing out. Even before his four touchdown, 288 yard performance, Brady was poised to be a good play on a night where he was clearly going to play angry and did. That said, the staff went for value at the quarterback position and as touchdowns are worth just 4 points, the resources make sense elsewhere.

Diggety Dez

Five out of seven staff members have Dez Bryant in their lineup, a clear indication that like everyone else, the staff believes Tony Romo and the offense will carve up what is left of the secondary in New York. The Giants defense is not good and could be a great play for any top receiver going forward. They may produce some great one-time games from lesser players as well, although nobody here dipped into the Terrence Williams well.

DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH

Miglio and Danny Tuccito both rolled Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor out for the weekend, hoping to catch some rushing yards and perhaps a touchdown on the ground, which would give them 6 points rather than 4 for a passing touchdown.

Martellus Bennett was added to two rosters. With the state of the wide receivers in Chicago somewhere between bad and tragicomedy, Bennett could be one of the few options quarterback Jay Cutler has to throw to, especially if Alshon Jeffery is still banged up.

Three staff members have the Tennessee Titans as their defense. That’s a hit or miss prospect as we don’t know what form the Tampa Bay offense will take. If Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson are both healthy, it could be a problematic play, but if the offensive line for the Buccaneers is as bad as it looked last year and in the preseason, it could pay off big.

That’s it for this week. Good luck with your plays and we’ll see you next Friday.
