Favorite Beat Writer For Your Team? (1 Viewer)

Hands-down, my favorite sports writer is Bill Simmons, the SportsGuy of ESPN's Page 2!!! He's wildly funny & ridiculously witty. He's obviously not a beat writer, but would be a great interview. In fact, you might be able to exchange with him as alternate guests - he is also starting a PodCast for ESPN (i think).
As a Colts fan, I'm clearly not a fan of his NFL opinions (I think he knows a lot more about the NBA than the NFL, and it isn't close. He was wrong about basically everything in the NFL last season, and I'm not exaggerating by much.), but I'll admit he would be a coup.

Ray Didinger is by far the most knowledgable football source in Philadelphia.

I can't believe someone said Mark Eckel. This guy just throws a bunch of junk at the wall to see what sticks. Dave Spadaro is an Eagle lackey.

Mike Mulligan, Chicago Sun-Times. Solid reporter, has a local talk show on the Score.

Brad Biggs is another local guy, but I prefer Mulligan.

I'd like to know Gridiron Assasin's opinion on the Chicago scene.

My favorite beat writer for the Browns, Hal Lebowitz passed away a couple of years ago. Tony Grossi and Mary Kay Cabot are both pretty good. Roger Brown sucks as a writer, a fan and as an overall human being. You can pretty much take it to the bank that he's making up whatever he's writing about. The Browns won't let him near the facility.

Sig, add John Keim to the list of good Redskins beat reporters. He's with the Washington Examiner, which I believe is a local online publication. He's good though.

Minnesota Vikings

Mark Craig - StarTribune

Judd Zulgad - StarTribune

Sean Jenson - TwinCities.com (he was used for the Vikings pick in the ESPN top ten beat writes Mockdraft)

Don Seeholzer - TwinCites.com

I agree with Pasquino. Anastasia is the best Philly beat writer. I will personally flame any interview we do with Mark Eckel. The guy is a disgrace.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle is technically the Texans guy, but he's just as (or more) plugged in to the Titans then Wyatt is. 2 birds with 1 stone if you get him.

Agreed.
honestly, I always think of McClain as a better storyteller/ gossip monger than pure information guy. If you are going to do the Texans Lance Zierlein (yes his father is that Steelers porn guy) is a better fit for what you guys like to do. He has been a radio personality for 10 or so years who has great scouting connections and does have a decent understanding of fantasy football type issues.

Kevin Seifert - StarTribuneSeifert is on the radio locally for one segment and is actually a good interview. I really consider Mark Craig more of a general NFL guy, and not necessarily a "beat writer." For example, Craig did a report on each training camp last year. Zulgad would be fine. Jenson is also on the radio and usually covers his tracks on anything negative regarding the Vikings. Apparently he does not want to lose favor with the organization.

Matt Maiocco from the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat is the top writer on the Niner beat. The guy is connected, prolific, and thorough.

For the Colts, I nominate Tom James of The Terre Haute Tribune-Star. He's been covering them since at least the early 1990s (maybe earlier) and he knows the Colts inside and out.
