I chose "Beginnings", though "Wishing You Were Here" would be 1B.

Anyone here watched the documentary that's showing on Netflix? I knew about the messy split with Cetera, but the stuff with the drummer was new to me. I also either forgot or never knew about their ranch/commune.

The band's biggest commercial hits (by a large factor) came with David Foster's production in the 1980's. Cetera was a big supporter of Foster, much to the angst of other members of the band.

But that doesn't deal with the reality of the times, as Chicago was an aging, tired band after Kath's death.

A very good documentary.

I voted other - I'm a man from the CTA album.  From the choices listed, Old Days would be my pick.

True, but I think they'd still have been an aging, tired band even if Kath had lived. As you say, they sold a #### ton of records in the 80s by changing. Most of the other dinosaur acts from the 60s/70s couldn't change and became irrelevent (or quit, like Zep) .

Chicago was a lot like the Commodores. Had a bunch of good, early multi-genre hits.....but the ballads became the BIG sellers. I knew Lionel Richie was gone as soon as "Three Times A Lady" hit #1, though he waited a couple of years to split. And, like Cetera's exit, I don't think Richie's left him being good buddies with the rest of the band.

Poem 58 from the debut CTA album.

I think this tune showed Kath's immense talent as much as anything they ever did.

Didn't know about the Chicago documentary on Netflix - will have to check it out. I recently saw a documentary about Kath and it was very good. Such a tragedy.

CTA, baby! Wore that the #### OUT.

Would have voted for "I'm a Man" but went "25 or 6 to 4" in tribute to my recent youtube guilty pleasures. Anybody else get off on watching these clips of young people listening to classic songs for the first time? This ol poop just loves to see those faces fill with wonder over the chops, depth, complexity & liveness of Deep Purple or Allmans or Steely Dan after being raised on Drake or LCD. One of the funnest of these was a coupla college boys listening to 25 or 6 to 4 when one of em thought he knew what to expect from a Chicago record after being raised on his mom's Cetera hits. His head almost exploded from all the layers kickin' at his skull and Kath slicing his ears off.

if you leave me now is a guilty pleasuer of mine bromigos and there is a remake of it by setera that is pretty good to take that to the bank brohans

Chicago is my dad's favorite band, so I know all their early stuff through the Cetera-driven mush fest.
That documentary is great.
and Kath was an absolute beast. Watching them live, you see how Kath was the absolute heart and soul of that band, the conductor, really. There’s a crappy black and white, VHS-noisy-quality live concert from Japan on YouTube that is so great. Watched that a couple of times late at night with my father when he was visiting.

btw, voted Make Me Smile...but, really, it’s a vote for "the Ballad for a Girl from Buchanan", which is the 13 minute long "Make Me Smile" medley, includes the title track, Colour My World, and other instrumental pieces. Kath sings great on the title track, as well as on the heartfelt and amazingly concise Colour My World. And his guitar playing is out of this world.

Same, except not guilty about it at all :D  Cetera's delivery is as smooth as silk. Very nice acoustic guitar solo played by producer James William Guercio, too. Gorgeous strings.
