I voted for Lawyers Guns and Money. That's the steaming turd that just beats out the Werewolves of London steaming turd.

I don't know many (one?)
:lmao: Werewolves of London might make his top 5. Might.

OK, ETA:

Excitable Boy

Keep Me in your Heart

Lawyers Guns and Money

Poor Poor Pitiful Me

Werewolves of London

Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner

"Lawyers Guns and Money" is a better song, but it's hard to beat "Werewolves" for shear comedy.

"I saw Lon Chaney Junior walkin' with the Queen"

I don't know many (one?), but I think it'd be hard for any of them to be better than "Werewolves of London."
I think the poll should have been called "Second Favorite Warren Zevon Song."If Hindu Love Gods count, I'd say Rasberry Berret. If not, I always liked Sentimental Hygiene, but I'd have to think about all the options.

Voted Roland myself. Keep me in your Heart is great though considering he was dying when he wrote it.

great posting - so many awesome songs to choose from when it comes to WZ.besides the ones you mentioned:

Desperadoes Under The Eaves

Play It All Night Long

Jeannie Needs A Shooter

Charlie's Medicine

I Was In The House When The House Burned Down

Keep Me In Your Heart

Boom Boom Mancini

The Factory

etc. ad infinitum

Other:

"My ####'s ####ed Up"

Great, great song. Really simple lyrics, but that's what makes it hit home.

Honorable mention to:

Hit Somebody (the hockey song)

Got to be Roland the HTG.

Something about the lyrics remind me of puppies playing in the field and little kids smiling while enjoying lollipops. Kind of brings out the melancholy in me and makes me reminisce about an ex-gf.

Wow. Tough, tough choice. I think it's got to be "Desperadoes Under The Eaves" but all of these are close:

"Frozen Notes"

"Carmelita"

"Splendid Isolation"

"Numb As A Statue"

"Studebaker"

"Mohammed's Radio"

"Lawyers, Guns, & Money"

"The (Vast) Indifference Of Heaven"

"The French Inhaler"

"Hasten Down The Wind"

"Detox Mansion"

"Lord Byron's Luggage"

I liked "Leave My Monkey Alone" - there I said it.
In my old Colonial home... Mohammed's Radio, Jeannie Needs a Shooter, Roland... cannot reasonably select one song. Really dug his music. :fro:

Big fan. It's a funny tune.
Agreed. Gorilla, You're a Desperado always makes me laugh, too. Also like Play It All Night Long, Detox Mansion, and Boom Boom Mancini. Hard to pick a favorite song of his.

If anyone is a fan and you haven't read "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" I would recommend it. Pretty good book.

Voted for Roland, but I always enjoy Frank & Jesse James. It takes me back mentally to reading Lonesome Dove and some others in that series. So many solid choices here already though.

I kinda wish I hadn't read it. He was a pretty big **** head at times.
No doubt about that. It was my first reaction, too. I just like that type of book. Gives you a look inside something from the view of the people who lived it.

Picking a favorite WZ song is like picking a favorite Beatles, Dylan, or Clapton song. There are too many to even narrow it down to five.

My favorite? The last one I heard.

went with other....thinking "Desperadoes Under the Eaves"...great tune and how can you are argue against a song about a being a lifetime loser that contains the lines:

And if California slides into the ocean

Like the mystics and statistics say it will

I predict this motel will be standing

Until I pay my bill

I watched his final Letterman appearance again today. Weird.

I have a hard time choosing. 'I Was In the House When The House Burned Down' has the most plays on my iPod so I'll go with that.

Really love 'Splendid Isolation' live too

I saw warren four times. My favorite all-time musician.

The French Inhaler and Desperadoes Under the Eaves are the best, with honorable mention going to Play it All Night Long and My Ride's Here.

These are all songs that no one else could have possibly composed.

Wow, wish I would've seen him. I didn't really get into his stuff till late. I almost bought 'Life'll Kill Ya' when it first came out. If I had, I'm guessing I would have seen him when he came through. Bothers me to this day that I missed out.

He was a pretty messed up guy. I enjoyed the book and I agree he was a pretty big **** head at times. I felt his thought process regarding artists having an easier time creating when they had horrible events in their life was really odd. I think it was Jackson Brown he was actually jealous of? I forget what it was that happened to J Brown that made him jealous but it was really Fd up.

What about that strikes you as odd? Art is about emotion. When you're in turmoil, your emotions are stirred up. Many of the deepest, most affecting artists had significant traumas in their childhoods.

Some of my favorites that I don't think have been mentioned yet.

Mama Couldn't Be Persuaded

Porcelain Monkey

Frank and Jessie James

Even a Dog Can Shake Hands

My Rides Here
