FBG car guys, flex pipe and cat converter (2 Viewers)

I have a 2001 Camry and it's making a wonderful, loud rumbling sound that rattles the windows on my neighbors homes. After some investigative work I've come to the conclusion that my flex pipe is shot. Since this holds the converter I need that as well. How much is this going to cost me and can I use after market parts and the repair shop.? Thanks in advance for any info.

Not sure on exact configuration but as a former exhaust engineer I don't recall any flex connected directly to the CAT...usually some sort of stub pipe in between (but I'm not 100% it's been a few years)

So you should be able to replace the flex without replacing the cat, but most likely some welding involved and/or torca style clamps

Probably not cheap in the labor side

Aftermarket parts should be fine

Depending on where it's broke tough you may need the full kit to get correct pipe routing

May even be cheaper because you're just un bolting and rebolting at the flanges

A new cat is about $300-350. pipes and gaskets aren't much.

The cat is held in place with 6 bolts. The only hard part is they tend to be rusted and froze up real tight. Might need a torch to heat the bolts up to loosen them up. Or may even need to drill them out. Reaching the bolts can be tough on some models as well. May need a long socket extension.

Paying someone, the prices I've heard it always sounds like they are gouging the customer. Seems like people are always charged over $1k for a cat replacement. Seems like a ripoff.

I had a flex pipe go out like that. Took it to a local exhaust/fabrication shop & they cut out the old flex pipe & welded in a new one. Cost about $120 and took em maybe 30 minutes.
