With the first pick of the 2007 NFL Draft the Oakland Raiders take:

1.1 Calvin Johnson WR, Georgia Tech

Sure they need a QB, but how can you pass on this guy and the measurables that he put up. His upside is tremendous, he has all the skill in the world and he has all of the intanglibles that you could ask for in someone that you are going to pay a king's ransom.

The Raiders can find a decent QB in, a) later rounds, b) already on their roster (?) c) in free agency off the scrap heap, or d) next year.

You just can't gamble with the #1 and both of the QB prospects worry me to some degree, especially with the first overall pick.

1.2 Jamarcus Russel QB, LSU

ILoveMyLions PMd this choice

1.3 Joe Thomas OT, WIS

The Browns have not had a dominant tackle since they came back into the league (even before that really). This gives them the big anchor for this line for years to come. They still have some weapons on offense with Edwards and Winslow, and this will give the QB (uncertain at this point) a little time. Jamal Lewis might be the biggest benefiter of this pick. The fans of Cleveland rejoice as the team finally gets its stud tackle.

Other options considered here were trading down, selecting Adrian Peterson or Brady Quinn. In the end the team couldn't give up the chance to have a long term anchor for offensive line.

1.4 Tampa Bay Gaines Adams DE Clems

This is the obvious pick. With Calvin gone and the talk about moving Rice, Gaines should be the obvious pick. Should be a force for M. Kiffin for atleast 5-7 years if not more.

Potential Picks:

Brady Quinn

Adriann Peterson

Amobi Okoye

1.05 – Adrian “All Day” Peterson RB, Oklahoma

Everyone knows that had Joe Thomas been available that he would have been the case. Since he’s not an option, the Cardinals should go BPA rather than reach for a prospect like Levi Brown (I’ve hopefully made my aversion to him plain in my mocks).

The BPA at this point is obviously Adrian Peterson. A couple factors make this make sense: 1) The physical nature of the NFL has made it nearly mandatory to have a decent-to-good second option at RB. Add in the heat factor in Arizona and it adds even more wear and tear. 2) Edge has a LOT of mileage on the tires. A lot of blame for the 3.4 ypc average he had last year is obviously on the o-line. But Edge just doesn’t have the same burst he once did. When Edge retires, AP will just be entering his prime.

I considered getting cute with this pick and taking Patrick Willis, but I think AP is the better option.

1.6 Washington Redskins - Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville

I was between Okoye and Jamaal Anderson but decided to go with the DT from Louisville. The guy is one of a kind and has suceeded in college at such a young age. I think with him being so young he has much more room to grow and has an excellent attitude to go along with his incredible physical skills. I think the Redskins have a hard time passing on Okoye.

I can actually see the Redskins moving down and selecting what is left of Okoye, Anderson and Branch. All who are not very far from each other as far as value goes.

1.07 Minnesota Vikings - Brady Quinn, QB Notre Dame

The Vikings are in dire need of a "face" of the francise and someone they can hang their hat on. This will give the fans something to be excited about in addition to giving them a prime time player with the departures of Moss and C-Pep. Quinn, at the most visible position in the NFL, should sell some tickets in addition to being a cornerstone of the franchise for years to come.

My consultant Biabreakable was lobbying for Jamaal Anderson at this spot who is likely the safer pick but also a less exciting one.

Add in the heat factor in Arizona and it adds even more wear and tear.
Agree with all your other reasons, but the Cards are playing in a dome these days, so this is less of a concern.
But it's not entirely covered, so the heat still comes into play, doesn't it?
Only if they open the roof, which they don't do in the hot months.
Isn't it always hot there?(I forgot about the new building. The heat IS less of a factor.)

All the better for AD!:lmao:Actually, it can get fairly cold in the desert at night during late fall and winter.

Just posted this in the other forum, wasn't sure which it was to go in...

Hey guys. I went with Russell to the Lions at #2 as I feel he has a good chance to be an elite QB. He's the number 1 player on my board for the Lions. With his height, size, accuracy, quick release for a big arm, escape ability and tremendous arm strength, he could be a rare QB that only comes along so often. He played in a fairly complex college system and faced top notch competition in the SEC and still put up great numbers. I know many Lions fans, and perhaps the management, don't want to take Russell due to the fact that he may sit the first year, but he's just too good and has too much upside to pass up. The Lions haven't had a top QB since Bobby Lane and that's the reason they haven't won since then. Kitna is fine for this year, but he isn't the future at age 35.

The only reservation I have is the work ethic. But, not having the privilege of interviews, talking to everyone who's ever coached him, former teammates, etc., I'll give him the benefit of the doubt despite showing up to the combine overweight (although he did look much better at his pro day). Hopefully the Lions take him if they can't get a great deal in a trade down. Time will tell. This also sets up a nice trade with Oakland getting McCown for a future draft pick.

Please guys if you're going to be away from the computer PLEASE PM me with a list of preferred players for your team.

Biabreakable will be making the selection for Atlanta at 1.8

Round 1 pick 8 Atlanta selects LaRon Landry Safety LSU

I mulled this decision over for a bit looking at my board of elite prospects still available. Landry is at the top of it. I have heard comparisons being made between Landry and Rod Woodson. Woodson is one of the best players to ever play the game imho. And Landry looks like he may be able to live up to this comparison.

1st of all Landry is very smart and instictive. He reads offenses quickly and reacts before plays have time to develop. He gets the ball back for the offense. He is a sure tackler and a hard hitter and very adept in all forms of pass coverage. A complete player who can do so many things for a defense and cover a defense's weakness as well as turning a defense's strengths into turnovers.

Measuarables: 4.37 40 time 37.5" vertical leap. Others unknown at this time.

I considered looking at Wrs but until Vick learns to deliver the ball with some form of consistency I don't see the point in making large investments at Wr.

I also considered Lber with Brooking aging but I felt the secondary was the biggest need and Landry the BPA to fill the greatest need.

Round 1 pick 9 Miami selects Levi Jones - LT from Penn State

This is a need pick as the Dolphins are in desperate need to upgrade their offensive line. The new head coach is going to want to run the ball and Jones gives them stability at the LT position for hopefully the next decade. If Quinn is still here that will definetly make this pick alittle harder but at the end of the day I still think if available Levi is the guy for the Dolphins.

10. Houston Texans Reggie Nelson S Florida

The first reach of the draft. First off I'd like to say that I was considering Really reaching for C. Houston, but my assessment of the draft tells me that S fall of bigtime after Weddle add the fact that there is no 2nd round pick and I think this makes the most sense as I fill a BIG need and other needs can be addressed after the 3rd round. I would have loved to see Landry fall here but Nelson is just as good. DE was considered but I think this draft is very deep with playable Dlineman. Like I said a reach but fills a big need.

Potential pick:

Jamaal Anderson

Chris Houston

Patrick Willis (move him to OLB)

1.11 Patrick Willis LB, Mississippi

The Niners really can't go wrong in this spot. Their biggest needs are at WR, DE and ILB and there are exceptional talents at all three positions that could all reasonably be picked here without being considered reaches. WR is deep this year and the Niners should be able to pick up excellent value in the 2nd round. That leaves it a toss up between an incredible 3-4 DE (I won't name names) that would solidify the line and ease the suffering of Bryant Young and Willis.

I went with Willis beacuse of the connection with Nolan from the Senior Bowl as well as the feeling that he will have the biggest impact from day one. The guy is a demon on the field and is the sideline to sideline guy that they need. My one hesitation is his weakness in coverage, but that wasn't enough to dissuade me from making him the next great Niner LB.

1.12 Buffalo Bills Jamaal Anderson DE, Arkansas

Hmmm, what is Marv gonna do this year? I've learned to not be surprised by what he does and to trust it after he does it. Marv made some excellent picks in last years draft and I think he is going to do it once again.

Darn, you guys took the fun right out of this for me. I don't see the draft going this way, but if it does and this is all the Bills have left to pick then I can see Marv going with Anderson. He seems to have his mind set on defence once again and he can't take another DT (Branch). This would be alot easier of a pick if they didn't resign Kelsay but Anderson is a kind of talent that Marv loves. This pick will be a surprise to the fans of Buffalo as they would expect Lynch or a CB going here but Marv knows he can get great value in the later rounds for what he needs.

Anderson is a physical freak and the kind of DE you don't pass up on. I think Marv is trying very hard to solidify the DL and Anderson will be a stud in Buffalo. He will fit in nicely with the rotation they have now and the Bills defensive front will be great for years to come.

Round 1 pick 13 Saint Louis selects Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska

The Rams need help on the defensive line and Carriker gives them alittle flexability. He can play DT or DE. He has great size and is said to be a workout warrior. Glover is getting alittle lonng in the tooth and Carriker could be his long term replacement. Saint Louis had a good success with the last DE they took from Nebraska (Grant Winstrom) and maybe that helps them feel alittle more comfortable.

Round 1 pick 14 Carolina selects Justin Blalock OT/OG Texas

This is the player I have been targeting for Carolina all along and who I think the Dolphins should take with pick 9. Blaylock is a versitile player having played right tackle for his 1st 3.5 years in Texas before moving to guard to help out because of injury to another starter there. He projects to play tackle in the NFL although he is versitile enough to also play guard.

The Panthers have had issues with thier Oline for some time now. I think it is time to fix it so they can get back to playing power football. Blaylock will do that for them. LT Wharton missed almost all of last season for the Panthers due to injury last year and it remains to be seen if is capable enough to hold down the spot for them long term or not. If he cannot then Gross or Blalock could. I expect Wharton to be given another chance to start there and Blalock can play RG in the meantime giving the Panthers a strong Oline across the board if they can stay healthy.

Blalock is extremly strong benching 40 times in workouts. He is also very quick and aggressive with a mean streak. Very good on the move and should work in the ZBS Carolina is installing for thier Rbs.

Compares To: Jammal Brown -- New Orleans … Brown is taller than Blalock, but both combine nimble feet, great lateral range and excellent upper body power to generate consistent movement off the snap. Blalock has the loose hips and leg drive to flush the defender out of the rush lanes and shows a quick kick slide and hand placement to mirror in pass protection.

Positives: Has a very thick frame, especially in his hips and bubble … Shows good initial quickness and lower body strength to clear the rush lanes blocking in-line at guard … Plays with very good balance, agility and foot quickness … Has good knee bend and kick slide to mirror and does a nice job of adjusting and taking proper angles on pulls and traps … Maintains body control when changing direction and has quick hands to lock on and sustain … Comes out of his stance at a proper pad level and is quick to recover working in-line … Seemed to be more effective as a drive blocker working inside, taking advantage of his power and hand punch to clear the rush lanes … Self-starter who is usually the first in and the last one to leave the weight room … Does a great job of surprising the defender with his quick burst off the snap … Stays low in his pads with arms properly extended to gain advantage and comes off the line with strong leg drive … The thing you notice on film is his nimble feet and stride to gain position and get to his reach point in pass protection … Has the lateral range to slide down the line and the chang-of-direction agility to get out in front on pulls and traps … Stays square in his base and moves from side to side with very good footwork and agility … Has the upper body strength, hand placement and punch to lock on and control the defender … Shows good retreat-and-slide agility to mirror edge rushers and gets his mitts on his man with force to jolt or drag down … One advantage of him moving to guard in 2006 was that he demonstrated that he has the ability to unlock his hips and explode into the defender more often than he did at tackle … Generates very good hip roll coming off the snap … Uses his leg drive and strong hands to push the pile and has that sudden first step to gain control of his opponent … Comes off the snap with his pads down and arms active to lock on and control … Has the power and leg drive to gain leverage and uses his huge mass to gain movement on drive blocks … Moves his feet well to sustain, demonstrating proper knee bend to mirror and is quick in his kick slide to neutralize backside pursuit … Has quick moves to the outside and shows flexibility and body control in his anchor … Extends his arms and keeps his hands active to gain proper placement in attempts to lock on and steer … Can stab and punch with force, using his hands effectively to gain inside position … Has the lateral movement and agility to slide and recover when changing direction.

Negatives: Has a soft midsection, adequate muscle definition and high-cut calves … Lacks the ideal arm reach for an offensive tackle … Plays with very good field awareness on the edge, but seemed to struggle some locating schemes when blocking in-line at guard … When he gets high in his stance, he can be walked back into the pocket, but that only happens when his feet cross over … After a few games at guard in 2006, Blalock settled down and showed better movement coming out of his stance to work down the line … Will sometimes over-extend working towards the edge as a guard (did not do this at tackle) … Had better success getting into the second level to neutralize the linebackers when he lined up at tackle rather than guard, as he struggled a bit to get through trash past the line of scrimmage when working in-line.
I think this guy will play LT or RT rather than guard but can be used as a RG as a rookie while they develop him.

1.15 Leon Hall CB, Michigan

I don't love Leon Hall but plenty of people do including the Steelers at 1.15. A new Coach and possibly a new defensive system, but with Carriker and his versatility of the board the Steelers go with the seemingly safe pick and take Hall

1.16 Green Bay Packers - RB Marshawn Lynch, California

This pick was somewhat of a no-brainer IMO. The Packers have no viable RB on the roster right now and need to assess the position for both the short and long-term. Lynch provides the speed and big play ability that the Pack needs to complement Favre.

Some thought was given to the talented DE's still available but the class is deep this year. Also, DB is a need and there are some good CB's out there yet but Lynch is the sexier and better pick.

Hall could be an elite cover 2 corner. Good value there...

1.17 Jacksonville Jaguars - WR Ted Ginn Jr., Ohio State

The Jaguars usually go BPA so this choice is quite difficult to make. They need a FS somewhere in this draft but with Reggie Nelson already taken, they wont reach for another. Hence, the decision boils down to a DE or WR- specifically Jarvis Moss vs. Ted Ginn Jr. Moss is the explosive pass rusher that many feel the Jaguars need and Ginn would be a vital cog in the passing game as he would provide a speedy deep threat as well as special teams considerations.

In the end, the choice here has to be Ted Ginn Jr. Again, he is the missing link the offense needs and his special teams ability is literally breathtaking. People claim that Dennis Northcutt was signed to fill the same role as Ginn but as it stands, Northcutt really hasnt shown much in the NFL to lead the Jaguars' brass to consider passing up a great talent like Ginn. I think the hit if we cut Northcutt down the line may be minimal- Ill try to find the details but i do not see Ginn as a NFL ready reciever so he could learn behind a guy like Northcutt for a year. Talent-wise, a comparison is really unecessary. For those advocating a DE here, I would counter with the emergence of Bobby McCray, the return of Reggie Hayward and the return of Brent Hawkins who Brownstone and I feel is going to be a huge pass-rusher in the future.

BPA is Ginn here.

1.18 Cincinnati - Chris Houston, CB, Arkansas

The secondary of the Bengals needs a big lift. They get that in the draft with this guy. He had a pretty good season, but completely solidified himself as a first half of round one pick at the combine. Houston has awesome measureables, and he'll put them to good use in the Bengals secondary.

Other considerations here were Revis, Olsen and Branch.

The Titans select

Darrelle Revis JR CB Pittsburgh

Fast, athletic, physical and aggressive corner as well as a return man .

This is the way to go here..He is a top 20 player and the number 2 CB on our draft board. With the loss of PacMan this has to be the pick here. CB was the thought before the Pac Man fiasco to upgrade Reynaldo Hill. He is very aggressive and he fits in good here. Hopefully a WR will drop to us in the 2nd

The New York Football Giants select

1.20 – Paul Posluszny, OLB. Penn State

The Giants have several pressing needs, the most urgent being CB and OLB. I think there is a big drop-off after the top 3 OLBs, but there are a number of good CBs still available and I think I can get one of them later on. I really doubt one of the top OLBs will be available later.

The Denver Broncos select:

1.21 Alan Branch DT Michigan

The Broncos should be ecstatic if Branch fell their way.

I was just going to ask how far people thought he would fall but I didn't want to name drop. Wow, 2 weeks ago he was maybe a top 5 pick....I LOVE THE DRAFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Dallas Cowboys select:

1.22 Robert Meachem WR Tennessee

With Glenn and TO getting up there in years, the Cowboys would be wise to add some youth at WR. Patrick Crayton may have recently signed an extention, but will likely remain a third option for the remainder of his career. Dwayne Bowe could also be a possibility, but I prefer Meachem.

1.23 Kansas City Chiefs

Dwyane Bowe

It's time to address a definite weakness of the team. Bowe is not the game changing player, but with Kennison on his last legs and an ineffective Parker, it's time to build up a semblance of a passing game to keep traffic off the line and to give Gonzalez some room. Bowe is big enough at 6'2" and had a solid senior season. Should be a player from day on on this team.

KC has done nothing in the off season to address the position, other than Herm mentioning some rookies getting playing time this upcoming seaons, but Bowe is the man now.

Linebackers are set, was also looking for an impact inerior D-lineman, an offensive lineman or a corner.

Although Bowe is still on the board and WR is a need, the need to build back the offensive line. Blalock has a fine pedigree and with Will Shield's retirement, this was the pick that can contribute from day one.

_sorry for the delay, I had some pressing issues at work I need to take care of_
