Fearless Predictions for 2008 (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
About this time of year, I get bored with looking at consensus rankings and they're usually wrong anyway. On average, about half of the top 10 ranked players at QB, RB and WR will not finish there. And there are always guys that come out of nowhere to finish much higher than predicted. I'd like to see more out-of-the ordinary predictions.

I did this last year and admittedly did badly, with a few exceptions. Here are my fearless calls for the upcoming season.....

* Aaron Rogers will be the Tony Romo of 2008

* David Garrard will finish higher than Palmer & Big Ben

* Brady throws 29 TD's this year and disappoints all who took him in the 1st round

* LT finally drops out of the top 3

* Rashard Mendenhall ends up with more fantasy points than Fast Willie

* MJD cracks the top 5 in 2008

* Darrell Jackson finishes top 20 after being written off

* M. Colston finishes top 5

* You'll be sorry you passed on Marvin Harrison

Tarvaris Jackson ends up a top 10 QB in leagues that value rushing yards/TDs double compared to passing yards/TDs

2900/15, 600/5

Brett Favre lines up under center Week 1 for the Packers....and doesn't finish the season because of injury. Not wishing it on him, just don't think he's going to be ready to go after taking all offseason off.

*Steve Smith is FF's #1 WR....by far

*Frank Gore leads league in total yardage

*Dwayne Bowe ends up with the exact same stats as last year

*Ray Rice leads the Ravens in rushing

*Chad Jackson and Robert Meachem, two top sleepers, continue to sleep

*A Titans WR cracks a 1000 yards

*Rudi Johnson leads division in rushing

*Aaron Rodgers falters, Brian Brohm takes over, and falters

*Marshawn Lynch leads AFC in rushing yards

*Jay Cutler becomes household name as he leads Denver to Chamionship game

*Leon Washington has more fantasy impact than Thomas Jones

*Nate Burelson is a top 10 WR

*Lorenzo Booker is a legitimate start in FF for 4 weeks

marion barber does not finish in the top 10 RBs for the season

Jerry Porter scores 10+ TDs

DeAngelo Williams does not get the starting job on Carolina

I always like these

Favre is a top 5 qb for the NY Jets

V. Young finishes in the top 10

Palmer isn't in the top 10

Bush is a top 5 rb and runner up to Brady for MVP

Agreed on Mendenhall having more points than Parker

McGahee isn't the top 15

LJ out of the top 15 again

Forte rookie of the year

Love S. Smith to get back in the top 5

Meachem has a nice second year...really first year and breaks into the top 25 wr's

Housh out of the top 15

Ryan Torain is named the week 1 starter, and ends the season as the Broncos leading rusher.

Selvin Young is relegated to 3rd down/change of pace back.

Anthony Alridge makes the team - as a WR/KR

Limas Sweed leads all rookie receivers with 10TD catches.

Darren McFadden becomes only the 3rd back to get 1,000/1,000 - the first as a rookie.

Steve Johnson has more receiving yards at the end of the year than James Hardy.

Sammy Morris has more fantasy points than Laurence Maroney in 2008.

LenDale White, fully healthy, leads the NFL in rushing. :goodposting:

I'll take these two per position and teams

* Vince Young = top 8 QB in most leagues

* Legitimate QB controversy in Green Bay heading into 2009

* Larry Johnson makes us wonder (even more) what we all saw in him, barely RB2 level

* Reggie Bush surprises, almost a RB1 in nonPPR, top 5 in PPR

* TO continues to defy father time

* Lee Evans reminds us of what we all saw in him, top 10 WR but is still streaky

* Tony Scheffler = top 3 TE

* Antonio Gates = not top 3 TE

* Carolina Panthers = 3 seed, but loses to WC

* Giants, not Patriots, fail to make it back to the playoffs

Bonus: Matt Moore = top 15 QB (PPG) and unquestioned starter heading into 2009.

II: Chris Henry = starter for the Titans, silences critics

Fixed. * Kurt Warner starts at least 10 games in Arizona* Randy McMichael: Top 10 TE, probably drafted outside the top 15.* Denver's leading rusher for the season isn't on their roster until week 3.

E. Manning emerges as a top 5 fantasy QB.

T. Ginn Jr. leads the NFL in all purpose yds.

Troy Smith starts at QB for the Ravens and pulls an Edwards... makes for a controversy in 2009.

Peterson finishes outside the top 10 of RBs.

Rams win NFC West

--Randy McMichael ends up a top 5 fantasy TE.

--Javon Walker starts off super hot as a top 3 WR for the first 4 weeks, everyone trades for him, and he's out the rest of the season and we get to read 10 threads/day about what to do with him

--A. Gates starts the year on the PUP

Donovan McNabb finishes as a top-5 QB ahead of Romo, Palmer and Brees.

Derek Anderson loses his job to Brady Quinn. Quinn puts up top-10 per game numbers from start #1.

Joseph Addai gets 300 carries.

Maroney finishes in the top-10 ahead of guys like Portis and LJ.

Michael Turner is the breakout RB of 08' he finishes in the top-5 in rushing yards but his lack of TD's keep him from being a top-10 fantasy back.

Micheal Bush wins the Brandon Jacobs award for most annoying goal-line vulture as he unexpectedly gets 10 TD's.

Reggie Wayne takes the league by storm by leading the league in catches, yards and TD's. Wayne is the only Colts WR to finish in the top-30.

Brandon Marshall finishes in the top-5 despite a 2 game suspension.

Dwayne Bowe catches 12 TD's in year 2. However, his yardage stays about the same and he just misses the top-10.

James Hardy becomes the immediate #1 WR in buffalo and puts up a 1,000 yard 8 TD year and wins rookie of the year.

Todd Heap gets 1,000 yards and finishes in the top-3 at TE.

Dustin Keller leads the Jets in TD catches with 7 and gets 500 yards to go with it. Making Keller a top-10 TE.

--Randy McMichael ends up a top 5 fantasy TE.

--Javon Walker starts off super hot as a top 3 WR for the first 4 weeks, everyone trades for him, and he's out the rest of the season and we get to read 10 threads/day about what to do with him

That part is interesting

JaMarcus Russell throws more INTs than TDs.

LJ finishes as a top 10 RB.

Green Bay does not make the playoffs without Favre at QB.

MIN wins the NFC North.

JAX wins the AFC title.

Dallas wins the SB.

I'll add a few more ...* Rudi Johnson returns to form and is a viable RB2 in fantasy leagues* Anthony Gonzalez will prove that he was worth a first round draft pick as he puts up 75/1100/9* Bryant Johnson is a consideration as a fantasy starter in Mike Martz's offense.* Vernon Davis isn't, and continues down the path to being one of the most overhyped players to enter the league in years.* Jason Witten proves 2007 was no fluke and finishes as the league's top TE* Larry Johnson does not finish in the top 20 fantasy running backs* Brandon Jacobs gets injured in week three, then gets Wally Pipp-ed by Ahmad Bradshaw.* Laurence Maroney continues to frustrate and loses more carries to Sammy Morris* Tavaris Jackson suddenly looks like a serviceable NFL quarterback.* Vince Young continues to struggle* Fred Taylor holds off Maurice Jones Drew for one more season and breaks the 1,000 yard barrier again.* James Hardy and Earl Bennett put up the best numbers of any rookie receivers, with Limas Sweed close behind* Aaron Rodgers finishes in the top 10 among fantasy QBs* Derek Anderson leads the Browns to the playoffs and the Browns finally realize they've had their QB all along. Trade talks involving Brady Quinn begin after a first round loss.* Pierre Thomas steals carries from Reggie Bush and begins a RB controversy in New Orleans* Adrian Peterson misses three games, but still leads the NFC in rushing* Justin Fargas outgains Darren McFadden* Matt Leinart holds off Kurt Warner and puts up solid numbers for the Cardinals

Delhomme finishes top-3

Brady rewards, tops 40 TDs again

Thomas Jones finishes top 10

LJ finishes top 5 again

Gonzalez finishes ahead of Wayne, both top 18

Welker finishes top-3 in PPR, 13 TDs

Scheffler top 3 at TE

Witten drops out of top 10

Rackers bounces back and finishes #2

Vinatieri finally crashes out of top 15

Dallas and Jacksonville finish 1-2 in Defense

Just a couple I'll throw out there....

Deangelo Williams busts out in Carolina.

Kevin Smith wins ROY by a mile.

Selvin Young rushes for over 1,300 yards.

McFadden cruises to ROY honors, rushing for 1500 yards and 15 TDs ala Portis in his rookie season.

Delvin Thomas does this year, what Colston did his rookie season: 70-1038-8td

Welker wins 'fools gold' award after finishing the season with a boring 80-880-6

Owen Daniels becomes a Pro Bowl TE catching 75 balls and scoring 7 tds.

Fred Jackson,at some point, takes over for the sluggish M. Lynch. As a result, Jackson finishes in the RB top 10.

Willis McGahee finishes as a top 3 RB, rushing for 1400+ yards, catching 60+ balls, scores 14 TDs..

Larry Johnson rushes for 1500+ yards, scores 14 total TD's, catches 55 balls..finishes as the leagues #2 rusher.

ADP hits a sophomore slump, averages just 3.8 per carry and barely runs for 1,000 yards..

Cleveland wins just 3 games, Derrick Anderson is benched after the team starts 0-4. Quinn isn't much better.

LT2 once again leads the league in rushing wins NFL MVP honors, scores 17 total tds, rushes for 1650 yards.

TB trades for Favre.

*Lee Evans eclipses 1200 yards and 10 TD's

*Delhomme is a top 5 QB.

*Stephen Jackson is #1 RB in fantasy football by far.

*Adrian Peterson doesn't crack the top 10.

*Ryan Torian wins ROY.

*Peyton Manning throws 40 TD's (12 to Marvin Harrison)

*Ricky Williams runs for 1,000 yards.

*Brandon Marshall plays 10 games max.

*Chad Johnson leads the league in all statistical categories for a reciever.

Laurence Maroney finishes in the top 5

Anthony Gonzalez posts a 1000/10 season

Jared Allen breaks the single season sack record

Ben Roethlisberger throws for 3800/35

Chris Henry plays in every game

Shawn Alexander remains unsigned all year

Heath Ledger wins a best supporting actor award

Patriots go undefeated

Julius Jones will exceed expectations- 1200/9

All right, here's a few to get started:

Team

The Texans finish with a better record than the Colts. Injuries catch up with the Colts and they finish last in the division with an 8-8 record.

The Ravens' QB debacle and a declining defense earn them the worst record in the league.

Rams and Vikings meet in the NFC Championship game.

Only one team from the NFC East, North, and South make the playoffs.

Individual

Drew Brees breaks Dan Marino's record of 5084 yards passing.

The #1 receiver will be Braylon Edwards.

Darren McFadden leads the league in total yards.

LOL @ Andy

Desean Jackson has some HUGE games (a la Lee Evans, Kevin Curtis) and ends up as a top 30 WR

Kevin and Julius Jones each rush for over 1,000 yards

Isaac Bruce finished as a top 20 WR

Jason Campbell throws for 3,200 yards and 25 TDs

The Cowboys, Redskins and Eagles all make the playoofs

the Giants don't

Here's how the RB's will rank out fantasy wise:

1 - LT....one last great 20+ TD season, but once again wasted with a first round playoff exit.

2 - MJD....Fragile Fred returns and MJD becomes the #1 back for the 2nd half of the season.

3 - SJax....total yardage leader as he reaches 1350 rushing & 550 receiving. TD's are shaky, though.

4 - LJ.....most consistant back week to week with 1700 total yards and 14 TD's. Grinds out a good season.

5 - R Brown.....returns to early 2007 form, but misses a game with aggrevation to injury.

6 - J Stewart.....fulfills the role of primary back in Carolina and gets 15 TD's to win ROY award.

7 - Addai....Consistant production all year long for 1600 total yards and 13 TD's.

8 - M Lynch....blows up for three games of 150-200 total yards and 2-3 TD's. Rest of season is average.

9 - R Bush....receiving totals rival most WR2 and gets his TD's up to 10.

10 - B Westbrook....PPG leader, but misses 3 games in the middle of the season.

Top disappointments:

1 - ADP....only two great games and misses 3 with injury. Rest of season he's very limited as teams force T-Jax to beat them. Finishes around RB15.

2 - Ryan Grant.....replaced by Brandon Jackson after fumbling issues

3 - Earnest Graham.....RBBC and only 5 TD's.

4 - Frank Gore.....limited by injuries all season with many GTD nightmares for owners. Finishes outside top 15.

Others that don't bomb, but don't live up to draft position:

Portis, MB3, McGahee, Lewis & Maroney

RB's that surprise and make low end RB1 or RB2:

LenDale White, Rudi Johnson, Brandon Jackson & Julius Jones.

Here's how the RB's will rank out fantasy wise:Others that don't bomb, but don't live up to draft position:Portis
Unless you have Portis getting hurt, you'll have a hard time convincing me he will not be in the Top 10.Yearly PPG:18.121.213.515.313.914.82007 #10 RB: Edge, 11.6 PPG

I don't think you are quite getting the exercise.I have no idea why it will happen, it just will, OK? Sheesh, you people and your logical explinations for things. Get that crap out of my predictions thread.

Hey, you can post whatever you want for all I care, but you gave explanations and write ups for everyone else, so it seemed like you had a rationale for all the others, why not Portis.Maybe Portis gets caught taking over the dog fighting business for Michael Vick for all I know. Maybe the Skins have a raffle and the winner becomes the starting RB. Maybe he runs off with Dan Snyder's wife or takes over as CEO of Six Flags. But if you don't have a reason or don't want to share it, so be it.

:kicksrock:I got no reason. I just did my top 10 and Portis didn't land in it. I'm kind of sour on him and I don't know why. Just a gut feeling kind of thing. Yeah, no reason. I honestly didn't know he had been that consistant over the years.

- Broncos, Bucs and Titans have top 10 picks

- Saints, Raiders and Jets don't

- Calvin Johnson, Jahri Evans, Derrick Johnson and LaRon Landry are at the top or just a touch below when it comes to discussions about the best player at their respective positions

- Reggie Wayne the No. 1 fantasy WR, Drew Brees the No. 1 QB, Brian Westbrook the No. 1 RB

- Ronnie Brown, Larry Johnson top 10

- Marion Barber, Clinton Portis not so much

- 2009 No. 1 overall pick: Matthew Stafford, QB - Georgia.

 Nice, non-FF, call!I also like the call on No.1 overall, even if you're wrong :excited:

It will be the KC Chiefs taking a local QB.

Jared Allen breaks the single season sack record
If he plays in the second half (3 sacks) like he does in the first (12.5), he should break it quite easily. So I doubt he sniffs the record.
All thing considered, the situation that he's in with the Vikes, the sack record is not that much of a long shot. With the teams in his division, the talent on his side of the ball, getting out of KC, his new contract, playing on a faster surface, etc. all point to a massive amount of sackages.

G-men miss the playoffs.

D.Anderson keeps his starting gig, puts up top 5 FF numbers.

SJAX #1 overall RB in FF. (i know, big stretch, right)

Gore #2 overall RB in FF.

Mcnabb doesnt get hurt, puts up top 10 FF #'s

R.Grossman is a top 10 FF QB! :banned:

Hasselbeck doesn't make top 15 FF QB's.

Cowboys have the #1 overall defense.

T.Romo #1 FF QB. :pickle:

the giants, although going 9-7 do not the playoffs .

green bay wins the nfc north with or without favre

bryant johnson is a top 10 wr

shaun hill is a top 20 qb year and top 10 per start avg.

brandon marshal is not a top 30 wr

mendenhall leads pit rb

alge crumpler is a top 10 te

Chiefs pick in the top 5 again in '09,

Broncos do not produce a 1000 yard receiver,

Jax wins the AFC S,

Fargus does get more yards than Mcfadden,

Limas Sweed leads the Steelers in receiving,

...and so does Colston for the Saints but,

-Brees wont lead the Saints to a division title,

Takeo Spikes remains unsigned,

Shaun Alexander signs with Cincy,

Alex Smith will be Come Back Player of the Year,

Favre goes to Jax (soon),

Patriots lose in the playoffs to San Diego

This will be the year of the "Upsets"

No fantasy #1 at any position repeats again this year (Brady, LT, Moss, Witten, Crosby, SD).
Nice call, this is a :banned: ; so who does finish #1 at each position? Care to go out on a limb??
I agree with Yudkin. Going out on my limb:QB: PalmerRB: AddaiWR: AJTE: WinslowK: uh ... hmmm ... how about RackersDEF: DA RAIDERS
This could be a thread all its own.QB: Peyton (returns)RB: SJaxWR: WayneTE: Scheffler :lmao:K: "who cares?" Josh BrownDEF: depending on scoring Minnesota or Dallas

I hope no one is looking to glean anything insightful from this thread. Every player has been forecast to not only have great years, but pathetic ones.
