Although the ending boat scene is memorable, it always felt like a much weaker imitation of Halloween, minus the music, better plot and overall style of that film.
I felt this way when I first saw it and that hasn't changed over time.
This ranking seems too high to me.

Agreed, it's no Halloween, which was clearly the intent here to leverage off from a few years earlier. But I guess it has to get some considerable recognition for spearheading (looking at you, Kevin Bacon) the genre well into the 1980s and beyond.

To be fair, Cunningham was pretty open that they were doing exactly that. It was purely trying to cash in on what they saw with the horror box office returns.

Even that it does poorly and in a half assed way. It's somebody we never see and have no clue who it is. At least 5 shows the person a little bit.

Other than the opening sequence, one of the most overrated horror films/franchises of all time.

Perfect timing- I was about to come in and say how impressed I am with the series as a whole. Granted if you didn't like the first, you aren't going to agree but I dare anybody to come up with a series that is still as good 6 movies in.
No love for Halloween 6? Or Freddy's Dead?
That’s what I said.
One of my favorite Fred Sanford moments. He's in the hospital for minor surgery and can't relax thinking he's a goner. So he turns on his bedside radio and that's the first song he hears.

I prefer the Halloween series of movies over any of the others. No, not all of them are good but overall, it's a better collection, including the remakes.
They toed the line of the nonsense we saw in Friday with the curse and cult stuff, but never stepped over the line like Friday did. We haven't gotten Michael in space yet, and nobody eats his heart.

Much less iconic than Nightmare or Friday the 13th but much better IMO

The legacy of Freddy and Jason is far greater than the actual movies themselves. I get you can’t really have Scream without those movies but no way they are better movies than Scream.

Sorry but this is a laughable take.
F13 is a cheap Halloween ripoff geared just to make a quick buck. Nightmare was at least interesting and original-I will give it that.

This might have been the case, but they ended up creating an iconic villain in their own right and a number of decently fun sequels.

NOES had the first movie which was great, then just completely went off the rails bad.

28 Days Later falls just short of Busan for me but it really could go either way. Still doesn't top my #1, but that gets its ranking for the impact on me as a kid.
I'm in the slow zombie camp. Fast zombies are more like infected people. Slow zombies are the real walking dead. Relentless, never stopping.

I loved F13th movies as a kid so I do appreciate them for what they are. The iconic character though really doesn't come into being until later in the series. The best stretch is probably 4-6 IMO.

So glad this made the upper echelon of the top 25. Might be the creepiest movie of all time. And some of the best death scenes in all of horror!

I just saw this again about a year ago after a long hiatus. I came away kind of disappointed - this one didn't hold up as well as I thought it would have. Still, it's a classic and it belongs on the list, just not this high IMO.

Edit: LOL in other words, the opposite of what @Scoresman just said. To be fair though, I remembered this film exactly the way he described. It was just tamer than I remembered.

I should have had The Omen higher. Gregory Peck makes the movie. He’s such a serious, quality performer that it grounds the whole movie. What could have been really silly or an obvious attempt at cashing in on 2 devil related movies (that we are sure to see come up later), it plays deadly serious and feels important. Great horror movie and maybe the best score in horror history.

Suspiria would have a word about this, but it's a great score for sure.

I 100% agree with this part. Peck is really good in this film, as one would expect.

So glad this made the upper echelon of the top 25. Might be the creepiest movie of all time. And some of the best death scenes in all of horror!
Ironic about the surname Peck and that lady reporter eating crow on the road.

Scariest movie ever about peanut allergies. Little Melvin would not approve.
