I like the fact that by the time you see the opening credits, every single person in the film is already doomed. You just don't know it yet, and neither do they, but they are. It's already too late.
Thankfully, this film has no modern parallels, so we can enjoy it as a fun period piece from the 1970s.

You know what would be a great use of AI? Re-scoring movies from the 1970's.
Watching movies like IOTBS and Soylent Green would be more interesting with some tension building music than just watching Sutherland and Heston run in silence for 20 minutes.

I went back and forth about including American Psycho. It's a phenomenal movie, and it technically fits the definition of a horror film, but it's not exactly The Exorcist either. It didn't spring to my mind when I started this exercise.

Skeleton Crew was the first King book I read as a young teen, and it really spurred my love of King and reading in general. The Mist is the opening story, so it holds a special place in my hear.

IMO biggest surprises in the rankings so far: American Werewolf in London, Evil Dead 2, and Shaun of the Dead. Maybe I just mistook one or two vocal poster's love for horror comedies to be representative of the group as a whole.

Maybe I’ll check them out. Paranormal stuff is usually a tough sell to the wife though. Demonic / possession stuff seems to freak her out
Conjuring, Sinister, Paranormal Activity and Insidious gave modern horror a shot in the arm. There are some moments in Conjuring that gave me the willies and it really stuck the landing, imo.
