Oh man, there are some awesome movies waiting for you. I got the Arrow bluray of Audition from the library the other day, so I am going to pop that in on my rainy day off today. I also grabbed the 4k disc of what I assume is #1 on the countdown, so I watched that last night. I'm going to have stare at my top 15 and think about it more. I had it at 4, but I can't shake the feeling that I have replaced it at the tippy top of my list with other movies - like Let the Right One In, Hereditary, and [rec]. Anyway, can't wait for some reactions when people get to great movies they haven't yet because of this thread. What's everyone's highest ranked movie that they have not seen?

Agree and I hate it. Don’t like that movie at all, never want to see it again. I wish it didn’t exist lol. This was the first movie I saw where I understood the phrase "makes my skin crawl."#7 - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

I'm not there but I'm the outlier among those who had it on their lists, as I have it down at #70. I get that it's groundbreaking and I think it needs to be seen, but with all the great horror films that now exist, I find it more iconic than high-quality. I won't knock others that rate it higher, as I acknowledge its griminess, weird villains and implicit gore (as little actual gore is shown), including the chainsaw sounds, which convey pure terror.Agree and I hate it. This is exactly what I would go on and on about for why I have it rated so high. This movie just absolutely clicks with me on a visceral level. I thought it meant that too at first.Seen all 75 of the movies I ranked.
Yeah for sure and I get why people would think it’s great. It just sickens me and I feel gross after seeing it.In some ways, a movie that disgusts you so much you never want to see it again could be the ultimate compliment for a horror movie. Those are the ones I seek out to watch when I hear about them.
Need to see the full top 10 because I am terrible about omission in these types of exercises, but this was my #1 when I first read the thread title and up through the given reveals.#7 - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

I have never seen it either. I just worry about going back to something that long ago that the technology/look of it will detract so much that it ends up just cheesy and not good.I’ve never seen TCM. Maybe will keep it that way based on some of the comments.
Yeah, disgust is never my hope when I go see a film. Often, I feel that a horror movie will aim to disgust only if it cannot genuinely terrify. Admittedly, TCM does bothYeah for sure and I get why people would think it’s great. No. This movie holds up brilliantly. It has no special effects that I can think of. You could put it up on a drive-in right now and it would look just as good as it did in the 70s. It's a grainy, low-budget movie, but that's part of the vibe.I have never seen it either. There's a reason this is the original summer blockbuster. The heir to creature-features like King Kong and Godzilla but more terrifying because great white sharks do exist and do eat people when they can. Brilliant pacing makes you fear the shark long before he's shown on-screen. The mishmash of personalities set out to sea to save the town gives the movie great depth and tension. And the monologue by Robert Shaw referencing the real-life events of the U.S.S. Indianapolis may be the best soliloquy in all of horror films.#6 - Jaws
When an insatiable great white shark terrorizes the townspeople of Amity Island, the police chief, an oceanographer and a grizzled shark hunter seek to destroy the blood-thirsty beast.

Isn't #6 --> #5 where we get another big jump?
I should have been counting, but I gather the movie that was on all lists has not yet been named, right?Isn't #6 --> #5 where we get another big jump?
Yeah true, it's a 70 point jump, but also jump from 14 to 15 total votes. The 124 point jump from 5 to 4 does not include an increase in number of votes.
There's a little dive bar near me called "The Bitter End" ... not so far from where the movie was filmed. They have a nautical theme and they play the Jaws movie on a loop. There's a reason this is the original summer blockbuster. Me too, but I think my wife is starting to take it a little personally.Lifeless eyes, black eyes. Like a doll's eyes.
I still quote that on occasion.
username checks outnext time y'all watch Jaws, pay attention to how the color yellow is used: it's a precursor to a shark attack/sighting.
- guy throwing a stick to Pipet (the dog) has a yellow shirt
- the little Kitner boy was on a yellow raft
- Chief Brody's truck is yellow (when he shows up to find Chrissy Watkins' remains)
- the barrels Quint uses to hunt the shark
- the helicopter patrolling the beach is yellow
- flashlight Hooper is holding when he finds Ben Garder's head (and shark tooth "the size of a shot glass") is yellow
Jeesh.....spoiler alert. You tell us to pay attention and then give away all the sightings. Just ruined it. Drop the movie to #197next time y'all watch Jaws, pay attention to how the color yellow is used: it's a precursor to a shark attack/sighting.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation with Matthew McConaughey and Renée Zellweger is a fun oneAlso the remake with Jessica Biel is worth checking out soley for Jessica Biel. Generationally hot in that movie.
