FFA Top 200 Horror Movies of All Time: #16 - A Nightmare on Elm Street (28 Viewers)

Something I'm realizing about myself as I see which of these movies I add to my queue: I like horror movies where there's a physical opponent. Zombie, slasher, monster. Ghosts and such scare me too much to watch - a jump scare in a possession or ghost movie make me poo. #wuss
I'm realizing that I favor horror movies that fully immerse themselves in specific past eras (e.g.; Late Night with the Devil in the 1970s, Shadow of the Vampire in the 1920s silent film era).
Right there with ya. Totally agree

Why I think Se7en counts

- the murder scenes were absolutely horrific and are what horror is all about. One of them even has a jump scare!
- the setting and tone of the movie of one of despair and hopelessness.
- Brad Pitt is the victim and you see the movie through his eyes. All of the murders culminated towards that final scene.

Horror is defined as an intense feeling of shock, fear, or disgust. Tell me this movie doesn't evoke all of those.

Se7ven is the best movie I never need to see again.
I may even have said it in this thread, but my first date with my wife was to see this movie. I said pretty much the exact same thing in the parking lot. Sure enough, I've never watched it again.

You have this listed as 2011 but the trailer is for the 1985 version. I ranked the 1985 version but am not listed here.

@Scoresman stop avoiding this controversy!
Sorry, it's the original. I'll update the google sheet. 9 times out of 10 it will be the original but my spreadsheet looks these things up and if a remake is listed first on the big database I downloaded that's what gets pulled in. I correct what I can manually, but obviously miss a few.

Thanks. The bigger issue is I think you are missing a few people that ranked this, which would push it higher.

#72 - Talk to Me

Lonely teenager Mia gets hooked on the thrills of conjuring spirits through a ceramic hand, but when she is confronted by a soul claiming to be her dead mother, she unleashes a plague of supernatural forces, and struggles to decide who she can trust: the living or the dead.

I laid out my argument, don't think it a horror, but it's about 10x closer than others movies already listed.

That actually works out perfect. The extra vote makes Fright Night the first movie posted today (tied with Se7en but is higher based on more people ranking it). So Fright Night is #69, and we'll start with #68 shortly today.

It's really really good. The only downside is that it's a two and a half hour found footage movie. I never felt like it wore out it's welcome, but some people can't do found footage for that long a sitting.

It's made by the same people who made my #4 movie, The Medium. So if you liked The Wailing, check that one out too.

It's not? I remember at least parts were, or mockumentary style which counts. Maybe I'm not remembering correctly though. It's amazing regardless.

Yeah, I was confused for a minute and wonder if I chose the right movie. I don't like found footage stuff. I remember The Wailing being a cross between a cop mystery movie and a zombie movie.

It's not often that Horror Comedy makes my list of best horror movies, usually falls into favorite comedies list, but this one just works for both. Just a great original take on the genre.
