FIOS vs Xfinity (1 Viewer)

Another fun thing I just discovered about Fios

If you start something on demand and dont finish it, so you exit out and shut it down. It's not "resuming" where I left off.

I'm sure it's supposed to, but I've tried it twice today and had to restart the show I was watching (oh and no fast forwarding through that show to get to where you left off either)

Fios is 12 bucks a month for RedZone :loco: because they make you pay for 15 other sports channels you don't need along with it.

Headed back to Comcast, I think.

One of the enticing things about switching to Fios was the $350.00 Visa Gift Card. It's certainly not life changing money whatsoever, but I was told by the person who signed me up (and by the mailer I received enticing me to switch) that this was their offer. I was assured by the CS rep whom I called after 2 weeks (while still within my "trial" period, where I could cancel for no charge) of service that I would still get the gift card after 3 months of service.

6 months have gone by, I called today to ask whereTF my gift card is (in nicer words) and was told that because I opted for a 2nd room DVR for only $10 bucks a month that I was disqualified from the Visa gift card offer.

I investigated this further by googling "Verizon Bait and Switch" and found hundreds of others with the same issue but not always the same reason they didn't issue the card. It seemed like there was a canned set of responses about why someone was DQ'd from receiving the gift card for quite a few years now.

I posted to their forum re: the issue and my issue was "escalated", I was asked to send all documentation I have re: this "supposed" gift card offer. Well, I didn't record the conversation with the rep who signed me up and I didn't save the mailer that initially got me interesting in looking into Fios so I basically told them to go crap up a tree and I'm not going to waste my time searching for some 7 month old envelope.

Maybe I didn't read the fine print, maybe I could have kept a better record of my convo with this person offering the gift card, but I definitely don't feel like it's now my job to prove to them this was the offer - especially considering that a simple google search yields hundreds of others who were promised the same thing.

I'm probably going to pay the early term fee of $190 just out of principle but not sure if I'm acting completely irrational over this, but I was 100% bamboozled on this. I'm sure there's some fine print somewhere that says if I accepted a 2nd room DVR for only 10 bucks a month, I'd be DQ'd from the gift card but this type of stuff really grinds my gears.

Beware to anyone else looking to switch. It's been nothing but bad.

Looking at my bill for FiOS and since I am due for a re-up in June, I am considering a switch to Xfinity.

I have a fairly top of the line package with FiOS (75 MB internet up and down, all movie channels, Sports package for RedZone, and telephone service) I have been happy with Verizon but am interested in XFinity since their prices are sooo much better.

I have to have land-line telephone for my alarm system. I may look into changing up the alarm in order to get rid of the land-line. I used to have Vonage and was pleased with them.

Based upon reading this thread, people have been fairly happy with CC and XFinity. Is that still the case? One thing that scares me is that they don't list upload speeds and they list the d/l speeds as 'up to.'

TIA for any recommendations and information.

Just did a speed test with Blast, wireless, surface pro 3.  63 down and 12 up.  I stream 4k content no problem from netflix/you tube.

Comcast's speed has never been an issue for me.  How much do you pay now?

I pay ~$230/pre tax.

With Xfinity I pay around $215.  No alarm but I do have 3 dvr boxes, all the movie/sports channels and a landline.
I has looking at 3 boxes too. Does the X1 allow you to have 1 DVR and record/watch from the other boxes? If so I would only need the one DVR; that's what I have now and don't have any huge issues with it.

Yes but they all cost the same.  One is the master and the rest are slaves.  In fact, you can only pause tv from the master, if you want to pause from one of the slaves, you have to record the show, play it from recordings, then you can pause.  That kinda sucks.

That is annoying, I like being able to pause a show on one TV and going to another and being able to watch it there from the paused point.

ETA: Do you have the X1?

Yes, X1.  Other than the above and somewhat slow "reaction" speed, it's been really good.  The whole type in the name of a show and it will find when it's on/coming on is amazing.
