Big Daddy Kane

Norv is Norv, anybody should have known that. The man to fire is AJ Smith for masterminding the downfall of a 14-2 team. AJ Smith got lucky to build a good team, but he was too lucky for his own good. Can this geezer.
AJ Smith was behind the firing of a head coach that the players would shed blood for. I dont see that about Pizza face Norv. AJ Smith is gone, buster.Give it a rest. AJ Smith is to blame? Effing please.Norv aka Badluck Svckcack is to blame. Or, maybe your insightful thinking can explain how AJ is involved with the play calling...?
Link?AJ Smith was behind the firing of a head coach that the players would shed blood for.
True and that's 1 aspect of his job. He's also responsible for putting a head coach in charge of the team that will know what to do with all that talent. And on that he failing. And should be accountable.PahtyTom said:AJ Smith is one of the best, if not the best, NFL football talent evaluators in the world.

I didn't need a link to the Chargers' record. I was asking for a link to any reliable source saying that AJ was behind firing Marty.2006 record: 14-2.2007 record: 1-3.'nuff said.Maurile Tremblay said:Link?Big Daddy Kane said:AJ Smith was behind the firing of a head coach that the players would shed blood for.

I dunno Im thinking at this point the Chargers offense would better in hands with Cam Cameron there opposed to Norv Turner.Jimmy James said:Even if you blame Smith for what happened with losing Marty, at least he avoided hiring Cam "the disaster" Cameron as head coach. You have to give him some credit for that.
Great...teams are always looking for scouts.PahtyTom said:AJ Smith is one of the best, if not the best, NFL football talent evaluators in the world.
Yeah, the team would be MUCH better if it had payed top-5 QB $ to Brees in a long-term contract.AJ Smith gets rid of Drew Brees, Donnie Edwards, and Marty Schotty. Some great talent evaluator![]()
Yeah, cause Phillip Rivers looks sooo good.Yeah, the team would be MUCH better if it had payed top-5 QB $ to Brees in a long-term contract.AJ Smith gets rid of Drew Brees, Donnie Edwards, and Marty Schotty. Some great talent evaluator![]()
Drew Brees was coming off a shoulder surgery, I don't blame them for going with Rivers last year, and Philip Rivers did quite well last year. This year Rivers rating is 89.5, Brees is 57.1.AJ Smith gets rid of Drew Brees, Donnie Edwards, and Marty Schotty. Some great talent evaluator![]()
Good by comparing production this season? Or good by comparing production/$ spent this season? Either way you're right.Yeah, cause Phillip Rivers looks sooo good.Yeah, the team would be MUCH better if it had payed top-5 QB $ to Brees in a long-term contract.AJ Smith gets rid of Drew Brees, Donnie Edwards, and Marty Schotty. They didn't lose by 7. It all starts at the top. AJ Smith is a royal pain in the ######. People say he is a great talent evaluator, but he's been around the NFL for a long time and has never had that label placed upon him until recently. A lot of the time these NFL GM's get lucky and hit on a string of draft picks or free agent pickups and all of a sudden they are viewed as NFL Talent scout GODS. They then live off this reputation for the rest of their career, just because they got lucky once...aka Phil Savage.Vincent Jackson has just been killing them. 85% of 3rd graders playing flag football could have made that sure TD catch today - perfect pass from Rivers.
It's not only that he has looked good on a few draft picks. He has also engineered a couple draft day trade rapings. They didn't lose by 7. It all starts at the top. Anyone with half a brain could have raped the Giants. San Diego held all the leverage with the #1 pick and with the NYG making it publicly known they wanted Manning, so I don't think AJ Smith worked magic in that deal. It's not only that he has looked good on a few draft picks. If someone had the time and patience they could go back and bump a TON of threads about Marty "the Choker". Now a whole lot of people seem to be life-long Marty fans. I can still remember when plenty thought SD should fire Marty and bring in DENNY GREEN before Green went to ARZ in '04. That idea made me throw up in my mouth at the time. While AJ could be harpooned for letting Marty go, there were a lot of people on that bandwagon. It's not unreasonable to demand a team of that caliber get to the next level. Smith is a great evaluator of talent. They need to make some plays, especially in the passing game. Vincent Jackson has just been killing them. 85% of 3rd graders playing flag football could have made that sure TD catch today - perfect pass from Rivers.
Keep spinning.SD had the #1 pick and Manning made it publicly known(or his daddy did) that he had no interest playing in SD. Yeah, SD had ALL the leverage!BTW I wanted them to keep the pick and just draft Gallery at the time. Thank GOD for AJ!!!Anyone with half a brain could have raped the Giants. I also understand that you are frustrated with your team's start. But buck up a bit, I'm a Skins fan and I would kill for a actuall GM that can draft decent players. Interestingly enough, it was also Norv's deal. Norv was the Chargers' offensive coordinator, and after working Michael Vick out he told Butler not to draft him.Around but not in charge. uhhh getting rid of Brees and Edwards were good moves. And Marty? Well, most of the people calling for him now, wanted him gone last year. I liked Marty. I made a lot of posts defending him over the last 2 or 3 years when everyone was bashing him. But fire AJ Smith? That'd just be foolish.AJ Smith gets rid of Drew Brees, Donnie Edwards, and Marty Schotty. Some great talent evaluator![]()

I disagree with your point about being lucky... Smith is an excellent talent evaluator. He's just unable to get along with a coach who wants any say in things. At this point, I wouldn't be upset if the Chargers fired him and got a good GM, but... be careful what you wish for, there aren't many good GMs out there.Big Daddy Kane said:Norv is Norv, anybody should have known that. You make an excellent point. There aren't that many really good ones. I guess an owner has to decide what's the most important thing for his team. Do you want a GM that's excellent in building a talented team and rep for hardball negotiations and that wants total controll over the coaches decisons? Or do you want a guy that builds team unity whil delegating some authority that allows all key members of the team to help achieve a common goal? This seems to be where it comes down to. AJ builds a great talented team but they are not supportive of one another. Maybe because they don't trust AJ knowing he will make decisions that makes him feel good but not always in the best interest of the team. Sometimes you have to decide what best for the team and remove your person agenda in order to advance the team forward. Sounds like AJ has failed in this area. And he has no one but himself to blame. Afterall, they were his decisions.I disagree with your point about being lucky... Smith is an excellent talent evaluator. He's just unable to get along with a coach who wants any say in things.
