Was flipping through the TV last night and noticed that Firefly was on this network called Ovation... When I looked at the guide, I noticed that it was on from 8pm to 11pm Monday through Friday (this week only)... It appears that they are showing the entire series this week with a marathon showing starting this Saturday at noon ET...

Don't know if this is a one-time thing or if Firefly will be shown over and over on this station...

Firefly returning to cable; Fillion says he'd play Mal again -- EXCLUSIVE

Browncoats rejoice: Firefly is returning to basic cable — and Nathan Fillion has something to say about it.

The Science Channel has acquired the rights to the cult-hit and will air the series in its short-lived entirety, plus some new extras. Science Channel will wrap each episode with interstitial segments starring renowned physicist Dr. Michio Kaku, who will discuss the theoretical science behind the show’s sci-fi concepts.

According to Firefly studio 20th Century Fox, this will mark the first time Firefly has aired on a fully distributed basic cable channel since 2008, when it ran on USA Network.

In honor of this occasion, star Nathan Fillion took a brief break from shooting ABC’s Castle today to jump on the phone and answer five Firefly questions — including whether he’d ever reprise the role of Captain Mal again. That interview and more details about Science Channel’s Firefly plans below:

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What was the part about playing the character?

NATHAN FILLION: It was my favorite job ever. What wasn’t great about it? I got to wear a low-slung holster. I got to ride horses. I got to have a spaceship. I got to act mean and curmudgeonly. [Creator Joss Whedon] is really good at kicking characters in the nuts so the other characters would have laughs at my expense and that was great too.

If Castle had its series finale tomorrow and Fox said to you and Joss: “We screwed up, let’s try doing Firefly again.” Would you do it?

Yes. Yes. I would examine very closely Fox’s reasoning — I’m a little gun-shy. If I got $300 million from the California Lottery, the first thing I would do is buy the rights to Firefly, make it on my own, and distribute it on the Internet.

What’s the most common thing Firefly fans say to you?

No. 1, “Is there going to be more?” No. 2, “Why was it canceled?”

Why do you think the show has had such an enduring appeal?

It’s a great question. We’re the most story-literate society the world has ever seen. What Joss tends to do is twist story conventions into reality. Whereas the story goes like this, real life goes like this, and that’s what Joss has mastered.

Do you ever watch the show nowadays or is that just weird?

It’s not weird. I haven’t watched it in a long, long time and I would like to revisit it.

Firefly premieres on Science Channel on March 6 at 8 p.m., with the two hour pilot, followed by the first episode at 10 p.m. Following that, Firefly episodes will air every Sunday — and, yes, in their original intended order and upgraded to high definition.

This show is like a painting by the old masters that the owner didn't like so he painted over the canvas. Stupid owner.

Stupid network.

True

Got it in my Netflix watch list along with Serenity. Bought a Roku HD too that makes fast forwarding a lot easier than my DVD player.

If Kate Beckett is the "courtesan", I'd do those things to myself just to be in the same room as her. or something... she's purty.

But then we wouldn't have Castle, which is superior in every way. It's almost good enough to make up for Firefly...almost.

New Board, Christo Auto-Condescending Correcting Feature: You may have missed where I posted the same info a few days ago in this thread. Nonetheless, I'm really excited by this as a Firefly fan and look forward to seeing the episodes on T.V. again in the near future. Next round's on me!

Great show that FOX didn't know what to do with. The fans got closure with Serenity( in itself a very good movie). Let's let it rest in peace, people.

:blackdot: tivo got Serenity and The Train Job on Sunday. I think they are replaying them throughout the week.

Marathon on Science channel (Directv 284) starts now. Never watched the show but heard good things about it here. DVR is set.

Don't think you'll be disappointing. Hopefully they play them in order.
It looks a little out of order but I'll make sure to watch them correctly. So Serenity is a movie?Nice, didn't know Summer Glau was in it...big plus! :thumbup:and Anna from V...

Yes Serenity is a movie. Came out a few years after the series as canceled.

It's amazing that a show that came out 10 years ago for about 15 episodes still gets so much pop....Boy the FOX execs really missed the boat on this one.

If your an Amazon prime member these stream for free.

Also Sons of Anarchy and Top Gear-not all of the seasons but quite a few.

OK, so I'm in the middle of episode 3. Tell this gets a lot better. It's pretty cheesy, the fights are so choreographed, fairly generic and sterile Hollywood backlot sets, nothing really gritty about it and it seems miscast. Especially the captain, the mechanic and the black chick. The storylines are ok except now I'm watching them dressed up and dancing at some kind of ball and am wondering wtf...

Is this just not for me or should I hang in there?

eta: Oh and the acting is pretty bad too. All I'm really liking is Summer Glau as the crazy sister.

Because many of us who love the show and consider it one of the best Sci if series ever made would have a hard time believing what you say. Also, if you are in the middle of Episode 3 and are watching a ball scene, you must be watching the series out of order which is going to skew your impression of the show IMO. . Episode 3 is Bushwacked. Shindig is the episode with the ball scene. Here is the order you should be watching inhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Firefly_episodes

I guess you don't get Mal, fall in love with Kaylee and come to admire Zoe then you are probably right it's just not for you.

Well, they didn't show Serenity and I figured since it was shown after the series aired it would be fine to start the show with The Train Job making Shindig episode 3 to me. I went into the show completely blind. I didn't even know who was in it or that there was a western theme to it. I'm trying to overlook the silliness of that concept and go along with it but there are so many other issues with it that it's kind of the least problematic for me. So far, I don't even see the reason to set the show in the future. It's barely even science fiction yet. It could easily have been set in current day NY or some other city or country. I don't know, I think of sci-fi being open and expansive and this, so far, has been small sets and restricted. I'm not saying it's horrible and I'll probably keep going but with all the hype here on various "favorite" threads, I was hoping for more.

I generally take a while to really like characters on shows.I mean c'mon...I just watched a sword fight! On a sci-fi? And the Captain slugs the guy, enough to knock him down, and he gets up without a mark on him.

Im a big fan of Firefly, but BSG is one of the top 10 shows ever. But I would reccomend 2 and 1/2 men for you.

:lmao: Why would you say 2 1/2 Men? I watched about 10 minutes of it's first episode. I'm not much of a network TV fan, especially the hour long dramas. Modern Family is good though as far as sitcoms go. I'll stick with AMC, FX and HBO I guess.

Someone should have told you that the series is campy to the extreme.
Yeah, you're definitely right. I had hoped for a little more thought provoking sci-fi. I won't continue to bash it, just not my thing.
In all seriousness go for BSG. But if you bash on that, youre a dead man.

better that you didn't.but as the man says- don't even front on BSG. if you step, you better step correct. :gang1:

Doesnt matter, they are apples and oranges. I am sure youll like it. Give it the mini series and the first episode and youll be hooked.

I might have to keep a few episodes of Firefly to check out Christina Hendricks though.
gurantee you will like that episode
Don't make guarantees! It says 2 episodes...Trash and Our Miss Reynolds.I have it on my office DVR and I don't record much on it. I'll probably keep them for a while, maybe I'll change my opinion. Maybe I need to smoke a little before the next episode.

I still think it is a huge mistake to watch a short series and skip the most important episode, that being the first, Serenity (which is a double length episode), not to be confused with Serenity the feature length movie which should be watched after the series is over.

But yeah, in general Firefly does not sound like it is for you. Shame though, I have watched pretty much every Sci if series ever made and Firefly had some of the best writing I have seen. Although to be fair, I really believe the series should be classified as a western before being classified as a Sci if show.

If you are looking for hardcore, try BSG. If you are looking for something in the middle, try Babylon 5 (note, with B5, you can't give up after two episodes. It really needs a full season investment.)

Ah see, I didn't realize there was a difference. My mistake although I'm not sure it would've made a big difference. I'll check out BSG eventually.

Loved both B5 and BSG, but IMO, Babylon 5 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> BSGBut you are right, you HAVE to give B5 time.
