First Rookie Draft - need help (1 Viewer)

I joined a 12 team dynasty startup league last year - obviously had great success at it since I'm picking 2nd this year, lol.  We have a 5 round rookie draft coming up, I have 2nd pick in each round.  Starting requirements QWWWRRTF.  I have:

Watson, Mayfield, Prescott
MThomas, Jeffery, Davis, MWilliams, AMiller, Trequan Smith
CMC, Chubb, Henry, Gio, Ballage, JRichard, Edwards
Engram, Gesicki
Saints & Texans DST

Obviously I need WR help the worst. Could use another TE also since I don't have great confidence in Gesicki so far, and Engram is liable to either suffer bc of Eli/Jones, or because no more OBJ and every other NYG WR is hurt.   All summer I've been thinking that I'm targeting WR with 1.02 - and I've seen the "Post your Rookie Drafts" thread in the Shark Pool and looked at some other rookie rankings, so I have an idea of which WRs to target at 1.02 and a general idea of the top 50 rookies for dynasty.  I feel comfortable with my QBs so no need to target the Murray/Haskins types I don't think.

My question(s) are more along the lines of this -- in a 5 round rookie draft, how many WRs should I be targeting?  Should I go for Hockenson or Fant at 2.02 if they're there?  Or would I be stupid to also pass on Jacobs if he isn't taken 1.01?  Just go BPA after the first two rounds?  Feel like I'm overanalyzing because it's my first one...

Just go BPA in rookie drafts.  You never know who will pan out and who won't so going with the best player regardless of position gives you the best chance.....provided you pick well.

The only way I worry about position is if you have 2 guys you can't decide between ....then go with a position of need.  However a true tie in value doesn't happen often.

Rookie drafts are tough because its difficult to avoid thinking about this coming season. Best piece of advice for dynasty is to think about player potential vs next season impact. The hit rate for rookies is really low, even first round picks. I wanna say around 30% are viable fantasy starters their rookie seasons. Wrs and Tes take years to develop, so if you do go wr consider what their team might look like 2 or 3 years from now.

When in doubt I tend to shop my pick. I like to trade back in order to gain a veteran or an additional future pick. Last season i traded for a pick i thought would be in the 1.01 to 1.05 range and wound up with the 1.01. Once the offers got high enough I traded back to the 1.10 plus a veteran and a future 2nd. You might be surprised what someone will offer for a high pick, especially as training camp and preseason hype gets to someones head. There tends to be someone in the league who has gone bonkers for one player in particular, and will trade above market value to get him.

If you haven't found it yet Matt Waldman produces the Rookie Scouting Portfolio. While I dont always agree with him, I feel it has given me an advantage over those who dont read the RSP.

Thanks for the advice.  Actually got an offer today of Westbrook + 1.11 for my 1.02.  I’d keep the 2nd pick in all other rounds.  I could use another “this-year” WR but is that enough?  Just don’t have a good feel for “what is the 1.02 really worth” yet...

I am not doing that trade, I value the 1.02 over that combination.  As both mention, take BPA and who you feel comfortable to take, any position.
