Waiting on Anquan

Coach Ken Whisenhunt, as expected, didn't have any further news on Anquan Boldin's status. He was hopeful Larry Fitzgerald will be back this week, but then again, he admitted he had been hopeful Fitz was going to play against Cleveland. In terms of Boldin's injury, Whisenhunt said he believes the issue will be whether Boldin can do further damage. If not, it will probably come down to pain management. Considering Boldin is already dealing with a sore hip from his injury earlier this year, you have to wonder -- even if he can play -- how it will limit Q.

messing up a toe is no joke. Linemen miss 2-4 weeks with Dislocated toes. I can only imagine it would be more painful for a WR to play with it.

Boldin may need surgery

The Cardinals aren't sure if they will have their top two receivers for Sunday's critical game at Seattle.

Larry Fitzgerald missed last Sunday's game against the Browns because of a sore groin. And Anquan Boldin suffered a dislocated toe on his left foot in the third quarter and didn't return.

Boldin's toe was put back into place on Sunday, but there is a danger it could pop out of place again. Boldin underwent an MRI on Monday and was in a walking boot.

He and the Cardinals medical team are still discussing how to treat the injury.

"That's what we're trying to decide," Boldin said, "if I'm going to need surgery. If not, what can we do to prevent it from happening again. It's hard to put a brace on a toe, but if there's any way to put something in my shoe to prevent that from happening . . . "

Boldin thinks the injury happened in the third quarter when he caught a 9-yard pass to the Cleveland 22 with 3:22 left in the quarter. As he came off the line on the next play, Boldin pulled up after a step or two.

He couldn't believe it when he was told his second toe was dislocated.

"To me, it was kind of funny," he said, "so I'm laughing about it like I can't believe it."

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said Monday that he is "hopeful" Larry Fitzgerald can return from his groin injury in Week 14.

Whisenhunt admitted that he was also hopeful Fitzgerald would be well enough to play against Cleveland, but he was scratched on game day. The Cards head to Seattle this week. We'll have an update on Fitz by Wednesday.

Nothing new but Fanball weighs in by stating that a decision should come soon:

"THE NEWS

The Cardinals will decide on Tuesday or Wednesday how to proceed with Anquan Boldin's latest injury, a dislocated toe, according to the East Valley Tribune. He suffered the injury in Sunday's win over the Browns.

Our View

Boldin also battled a hip injury earlier this season that cost him some games. There is a real chance the Cardinals shut Boldin down for the rest of the year if the pain is too great or they worry that he could dislocate the toe again."

Already lost Roy, now Boldin. This would be a very bad week for me.

Luckily I still have SS, oh wait...

I'm wondering if Fitz plays if it's even worth starting him? Seattle has a pretty good Defense, aren't they just going to roll coverage over to him and if he's double teamed with a groin problem whats the point?

:bye: I'm tinking that Johnson is the start here, not Fitz (and yes I'm a Fitz owner).

Any news on Boldin? Between him and Holmes I'm down to Curry at WR2! Picked up Reggie Williams for gods sake. I'd like to get Sidney Rice off the WW too and drop Boldin like the plague. He's been killing me all year!

Put Q on the IR already and be done with it!

Q is doing what he can

Anquan Boldin is out there at practice in uniform, talking with the trainers and trying to find that right shoe/brace combination that will help him. It reminds me of the things quarterback Kurt Warner was doing in his first practuce after hurting his elbow. Here's hoping the Cards and Boldin can get similar results. The guess? It'll probably officially come down to being a game-time decision. It doesn't look like safety Aaron Francisco is back yet from his bad calf, but receiver Jerheme Urban (heel) is giving it a go.

Interesting that there's been no mention of Fitz anywhere yet with regard to his groin. Anyone heard ANYTHING either way yet?

A couple of Boldin updates I found in some local sources for ya. Enjoy. Unfortunately nothing on Fitz as of yet for today.

Update on Boldins toe from Official site 12/4. Key points below, including Boldins take on not playing 100%

http://www.azcardinals.com/news/detail.php?PRKey=2133

There was some “good” news about his new injury immediately after it happened. He didn’t break his foot, which was one of the initial fears. He didn’t dislocate his big toe, which – because the big toe supports all a person’s weight when running – would have ended his season for sure.

Instead, it’s Boldin’s second toe, and the wideout said the doctors and trainers are still looking to see if there is some device or splint that can be used to help the problem, a la Kurt Warner’s elbow brace.

He got treatment on his injuries Tuesday morning, spent some time in the cold tub and then went for a massage. But until Boldin gets on the field for practice Wednesday and Thursday and tests his toe out, it’s impossible to know what the immediate future holds.

“I am sure with the style of Anquan’s play, if he is sore or has pain, it will affect him to a degree,” coach Ken Whisenhunt said. “But Anquan, it’s not going to slow him down. He is going to push through it.”

Boldin isn’t unrealistic, however. He noted that even after finding some sort of toe brace, “being able to play with it is another thing,” he said.

“It is tough anytime you aren’t 100 percent,” Boldin added. “The way I play the game, I need to be.”

That does not sound too positive for the next couple of weeks.

Larry Fitzgerald-WR-Cardinals Dec. 5 - 3:51 pm et

Larry Fitzgerald was limited in practice Wednesday, but says his groin feels "much better" than it did last week.

Fitzgerald is "hopeful" of playing against the Seahawks. Before sitting out the Cards' Week 13 game, Fitz had scored five times in his last three games.

Anquan Boldin (toe) missed all phases of Cardinals practice Wednesday.

Boldin is experimenting with device to support the toe, but still seems unlikely to face Seattle. It sounds like Larry Fitzgerald has a better chance.

Hmmm .... This sounds all too familiar, just take out the "than it did last week" part, and the rest is Deja Vu.

Any updates on Fitz?

Some people have to have starting lineups in on the kickoff of the first game (which sucks, I know).

Fitz, Q Holding Out Hope

Larry Fitzgerald was smiling Wednesday in the locker room after practice. So was Anquan Boldin.

Neither are healthy – Fitzgerald is still nursing a sore groin, and Boldin still is searching for the right orthotic for his bad toe – but relative optimism reigned.

Fitzgerald deemed himself “light years” better than he was last week. Fitzgerald was limited in practice but he said he could cut without pain – which wasn’t true last week – and he is not as sore.

He also insisted that Boldin’s problems were not going to pressure him to get back.

“It wouldn’t matter if Q was out there or not,” Fitzgerald said. “I have to be out there as much as possible, they count on me.”

Boldin was joking about the veteran Cardinals trainers telling him they had never seen an injury like that before – “And altogether they have, like, 175 years of training experience” – and about his reaction when he first got hurt – “It was like, 'You gotta be kidding me.' ”

Boldin said the toe – the second toe on his left foot – was feeling better but still sore and tender. He still hopped off the field as he went into the locker room and was listed as Did Not Participate in practice.

Boldin said that by definition, a dislocated toe meant he had torn ligaments, but he hoped he would not need surgery.

He has tried two different orthotics but has yet to find the “perfect fit,” and the quest will continue until he does.

“For myself, even if we don’t find an orthotic, I will put something in there to make it work,” Boldin said. “I wouldn’t count myself out just yet.”

Coach Ken Whisenhunt said the status of his two Pro Bowl receivers would be determined as the week progresses. It would not be a surprise to find both become game-time decisions.

THE BRACE IS OFF – FOR NOW

On better injury news, quarterback Kurt Warner took part in practice without the left elbow brace he has played with since mid-October.

“Obviously I’m not ready to do it in games,” Warner said, noting that he can get away with a strong tape job in practice since he won’t be hit or fall to the ground.

Weary of the injury and the measures he must use to protect it, Warner added with a bit of sarcasm, “I am optimistic that, at some point in the rest of my career, I can play without that brace.”

EXTRA POINTS

Receiver Jerheme Urban (heel) returned to practice, although he was limited. Safety Aaron Francisco (calf) is still sidelined. …

The Cardinals have scored an NFL-high 26 points in drives started after the two-minute warning of either half, with three touchdowns and two field goals among 19 possessions. The Bears are second with 24 points on 18 possessions.

The question I have to deal with is an injured Fitz worth starting over Witten? Fitz has been great in the last month but with Boldin out I wonder how Seattle will roll coverage to him. Seattle has been good vs. the pass. It will be tough sitting Fitz for a te.

Cards' Fitzgerald faces fitness race

Larry Fitzgerald was limited in practice for the Cardinals Wednesday because of a groin injury, but you get the feeling he's going to try to play. It appears that Anquan Boldin will miss Sunday's make-or-break game against Seahawks because of a dislocated toe. It's going to be hard to find the right padding in a shoe to allow him to play with the toe as bad as it is. Fitzgerald missed last week's game against Cleveland because of the groin injury but he wants to be out there with his teammates. As one of the receiving leaders in yardage, the Cardinals need him if they want to have a chance to stay in the NFC West race with the Seahawks. The Seahawks could clinch the division if they beat the Cardinals Sunday.

My opponent has Kurt Warner going. Which means Fitzgerald and Boldin will both play and Kurt will pass for 700 yards and 8 touchdowns. So rest easy everyone, I'll bite this bullet for all of you. Just send my cut when you win your league.

The elusive orthotic

Anquan Boldin missed practiced again today as he continues a search for a comfortable orthotic to put in his shoe. He wasn't sure when he would find one, but he also said that, even if he can't practice tomorrow, that doesn't mean he won't go Sunday. Boldin (probably smartly) declined to put a percentage on how likely he was to play. Larry Fitzgerald was again limited, but my gut -- and that's all it is, my own guess -- is that he will be on the field Sunday. Safety Aaron Francisco made it sound as if he'll have to miss another game.

Injury update

Receiver Anquan Boldin missed a second consecutive day of practice as he continues to search for an orthotic that will allow him to play despite a sore toe.

Boldin has tried three or four orthotics, he said, and is getting close to something that works. He hopes to practice Friday, but we'll see. He has said before that he likes to practice before playing, and Friday's workout is the last full practice before the game.

Receiver Larry Fitzgerald participated in more practice today than he did on Wednesday, increasing the chances of him playing.

My best guess is that Boldin won't play but that Fitzgerald will give it a try, although he might not be 100 percent.

The 2 problems that I see with Fitz are:

1) He plays at 4:00

2) He will not be 100% and effective as usual.

I think that all owners need to look elsewhere this week. I have Fitz in 2 leagues and I plan on sitting him in both. I just can not take the goose egg in my playoff matchups.

Per Sportsline:

Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald, who missed Week 13 with a groin injury, went through a second straight practice of limited reps Thursday as the team prepares for Week 14 at Seattle. The Cardinals said Fitzgerald slightly increased his practice load Thursday, according to NFL.com. His status for Week 14 remains uncertain. "I'm a jumper," Fitzgerald said Wednesday. "I have to have a lot of flexibility in my legs. That's a big part of what I do."

Even though the NFC's leading receiver missed one game, Fitzgerald said leading up to Week 13 he would play. But in workouts before the game, it was apparent that the groin was bothering him too much. "I wouldn't have been effective the way I was feeling, but I'd have played," he said, adding that team doctors decided it would be better for him to sit it out. The Cardinals sorely need Fitzgerald on the field against the Seahawks since Boldin will likely be sidelined. But only time will tell. Continue to track Fitz's progress. If healthy, he is a No. 1 Fantasy WR.

per Sportsline:

Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said Friday that WR Larry Fitzgerald (groin) is listed as questionable and will be a game-time decision Week 14 at Seattle. Fitzgerald, who has been limited in practice all week, did his most strenous workout on Friday. He said he felt good afterward, according to NFL.com.

Fitzgerald hopes to take the field against the Seahawks after missing Week 13 against the Browns. He was so confident he would play Week 13, but had to sit out after pregame warmups. The Cardinals sorely need Fitzgerald on the field against the Seahawks since Anquan Boldin will likely be sidelined. But only time will tell. Continue to track Fitz's progress leading up to inactives.

Also from Sportsline:

Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said Friday that WR Anquan Boldin (toe) is listed as questionable and will be a game-time decision Week 14 at Seattle. Boldin finally took to the practice field Friday, but is still looking for the perfect orthotic fit so he can play against the Seahawks. "I found one that was a little better," Boldin told NFL.com. "We took the plate out of the bottom. If I can (play), I will. … I have never been in this position (with a team in contention). I want to take full advantage of it."

The Cardinals coaching staff has been worried about Boldin because they have never seen a toe injury like his. Boldin is trying to avoid surgery on the foot and hopes finiding the right orthotic will help him play Sunday. Boldin already missed a few games earlier in the season with a hip injury. Boldin's situation is still iffy for Week 14 and Fantasy owners should start making plans as though he will not be available.
