Fitz & Q vs. Niners (1 Viewer)

Just a heads up...

Not that you were debating weather or not to start these guys, but I thought I would pass along this little tidbit.

Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin have taken turns thrashing the 49ers defensive backfield. San Fran has thrown a ton of money at the problem, so we may see a different result.

A indirect response

The 49ers spent a large amount of money this off-season to upgrade their secondary, acquiring cornerback Nate Clements and safety Michael Lewis. That's because they wanted to match up better against teams such as the Cardinals, who tallented receivers.

In the past two years, Fitzgerald and Boldin have alternated having great days against the Niners. Last year, Fitzgerald caught 13 passes for 226 yards and a touchdown. Boldin had eight receptions for 126 yards and a score.

In 2005, Boldin scalded the 49ers with 19 receptions, 272 yards and two scores.

In the last four games, all Cardinals victories, Boldin and Fitzgerald have caught 55 passes for 855 yards and five touchdowns.

Probably depends on which WR draws Clements. Michael Lewis is not a great cover safety. He plays the run extremely well but his coverage mistakes are what made the Eagles let him walk. Maybe with a fresh start things will go better for him in SF. The PHIL coaches had lost all confidence in him last season.

Was actually surprised to see Leinart ranked so low by FBG. AZ's history vs. SF was my exact thinking when I opted for Leinart over my higher-ranked-by-FBG alternative.

Plus, Leinart seems to do his best on the big stage. Even though the MNF double-header isn't SNF, I think it will be enough of a stage for Matt to light it up.

300/2 floor is my minimum expectation. Divvy that up amongst Bolding & Fitz as you see fit. :football:

i don't know why, but I think the SF D is going to be MUCH improved this year and against the Cards who are playing their first game in a new system, I think the SF D is sneaky play this week.

Any idea how that might break out? I'm thinking Clements would be covering Fitz.

This guy works for the newspaper?Like many others, I like the 49ers this year - I think they are improved on both sides of the ball, so what Boldin did to them two years ago is irrelevant IMO.

Does Clements cover a certain receiver, or would he just play on a certain side?

It sucks this is a monday night game. As I have Gore Smith and Boldin going but I am going into tis game feeling pretty good.

It should be a high scoring affair.
