Fixed my Plasma TV (1 Viewer)

My 50" Plasma TV wouldn't turn on and after calling about the warranty I found out it was not covered. My Plasma TV is about 2 years old, so I was out of luck on the warranty. I did a little research online and apparently this is a common problem with several brands of Plasma tvs. So after watching a couple videos on youtube on how to find the capacitors that were bad, I replaced them and like a small miracle it works like new. Cost me 9 bucks total for parts with the soldering iron and solder. Much better than the 600 plus the local tv shop wanted to replace the power board. Just thought I would share.

That is pretty cool, only because I'm learning about capacitors in physics  .

Only because you are taking physics? Are you kidding me? The coolness has very little to do with your education. It's cool because he saved $600 for a repair shop to fix it. It's cool because if they couldn't fix it, he saved even more than $600 to replace it. It's cool because he took the initiative and self-reliance and do-it-yourself-can-do mentality to research the problem, assemble the tools he needed, and repair it on his own. It's cool because he's just that much closer to being an independent spirit than the masses of helpless men and women who can't do anything. It's pretty damn cool. :lmao:

just in time for blackfriday

I saw best buy has a 50" Panasonic led for $199

you might want to get in line now

Sorry got it working again. Took off the back and one of the panels had become loose. Pretty good run for a 6 year old Plasma that is watched daily

I've got an 8 year-old, 50" Panasonic that is still working. I'll get a black flash on the screen with some matrix looking green patterns for less than a second maybe once or twice a day. Trying to hold out as long as I can.

Why so everyone is of luck except the guy at the front of the line? Cause you know they only have one in stock.

I tried to fix my plasma last year. It was like 8 years old though. Watched several diagnosing and how-to videos. No luck. Sold it for 50 bucks. 50 incher. A new one is like 400-500.

I have an 8 year old 42 plasma Panasonic. No problems at all love this tv. Only reason I will upgrade eventually is to go for a 55

Only think I don't like is how much plasmas reflect light. Other than that the picture is great and fast enough for sports

Did a similar thing with my Samsung a few years ago. Designed failure. They could have used a more robust capacitor that wouldn't fail, but no. At least it was easy to fix.

This is a rhetorical question (unless you live in CA), but how the hell can a panel become loose in a TV.

I'm on my fourth bulb on my 10 year old Sony LED Wega. Definitely nice to be able to do the work myself. It's been a workhorse.

Word is Shiznitt plays Saving Private Ryan at full volume every weekend.
Probably was knocked loose when I fixed it the last time. I dunno.

It is starting to act a little weird at times especially with the new HDCP from Directv. I have to turn it off and wait a few minutes and it can go days until I see the notification again. Also, it is buggy with sound. I sometimes switch channels and it will not have sound so I have to channel up or down to get sound and then go back to the channel I want to watch. Maybe these are all problems with Directv and an older plasma tv?

Probably the ball bearings. It's all ball bearings nowadays. Did you prepare the Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads?
