Miami is one of the poorest major cities in the country. A few years ago, it was THE poorest.Loria doesn't have much money at his disposal, either. Add to that, a political climate full of corruption, and a very fickle fan base and you can see why the Marlins are in the shape they're in.The team and State came up $100M short. Who will bridge that gap? The last time there was a vote(May, 06), the Senate approved a 60M tax subsidy, but time ran out and the measure was shot down.This team will never get a stadium, not in Miami. The taxpayers won't go for it, and Loria doesn't have the resources that George Steinbrenner, or many of the other owners have.San Antonio was prepared to approve $200M towards a new stadium shortly after the Florida measure was shot down, but MLB stepped in, claiming that the Marlins' attempt to get a stadium in Miami is not yet over. Sounds to me like they have their own motives. They're not ready for them to leave, yet.

Very true. Wayne H wrote a personal check for $50 Million of additions to Dolphin Stadium this summer....planned for '07. Loria can't do that.

I argue with my friends who are Marlins fans(Yankee fan here) all the time, but it always comes down to this. If Wayne Huizinga(sp?), who has far more power, money influence, etc could not get a brand new stadium for the Marlins, why will Loria?Huizinga(sp?) got pissed off, and ran a garage sale. It was the stadium issue that caused him to sell off the team. He lost money on the Marlins, despite winning a championship and realized that unless he had a new facility, he would continue to lose money.Btw, Huizinga gets the parking and concessions on the Marlins games. A substantial portion, too. He had also given the Marlins a deadline to get out of Dolphins Stadium, which he rescinded.

i saw Anibal Sanchez pitch in his season debut, on opening day for the AA Carolina Mudcats. Made the drive out to Zebulon, NC (why did they build this big stadium out in the middle of nowhere?) on Easter Sunday, got some eastern NC bbq for lunch, and perched in the upper deck to avoid the netting.

The Mudcats played the Jacksonville Suns, affiliated with the Dodgers, so we also saw Matt Kemp and Andy LaRoche. I didn't think much of those Dodger prospects, but my roto buddy (who had selected Sanchez in our minor-league draft) & i were both quite impressed with Sanchez. Repeatable delivery. Good movement on his pitches. Very poised. And even athletic, fielding bunts and covering 1B and such, a surprise given his girth.

I didn't think he'd be more than a Sept callup or a short DL replacement this year, much less imagining that he'd toss a no-hitter, but you could see the potential.
