Im sorry, but this highlight show sucks. First of all, why does this show start before the late games end? And on top of that, the show content really stinks. Where is the EMOTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!?? and yes, :MY GOD: they just highlighted the NASCAR standings!!!!!!!!!!

I must admit I miss the "rumblin, stumblin" Chris Berman schtick. But admit it, you really liked that ESPN show.

If I screwed up in my post, I apologize, I've been drinking ALOT today.

...............end of rant

I don't watch it, because it starts during the late games. For that reason alone, it sucks. There is no good NFL highlight show on Sunday nights anymore.

what do you expect from the network that brought you the olympics, ice skating, and wimbledon?

no wonder they wanted to competition from espn

:goodposting: 6:30pm start was :moneybag:Starting at 6pm  I tend to miss the first 30 minutes. It might be a bad show at times. But I counted on the Highlight show to catch up on the games I didn't get to see.

been said a million times, but worth saying again...it's terrible.

and seriously, why is bettis there? i hear better analysis from drunks at the bar. guy's a waste of air.

ESPN still has Primetime. It just isn't on until Monday. So yeah, I guess that kind of makes it worthless as well.

never mind that bad show and IT IS A BAD SHOW...

... why in hell is there no game on tonight??? Didn't NBC (the lowest rated big three network) wan't to showcase Sunday Night football as the premium football viewing night in the land, hence the pretentious "Football Night In America" title.

fuxxing dooshrockets.

What kind of crazy time zone are you living in???? LOL! Hahahahahhaha!
Central?Early games start at noon, late games start at 3. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I think there's a baseball game on.
You mean the sport with the postseason TV ratings in decline so badly that they need Tommy Lasorda to cajole people to watch? That sport? I believe that begs the question.

During the World Series a Sunday Night game is never played anymore. It's been that way for quite a few seasons.

Bob Costas is a helluva baseball broadcaster, but he shouldn't be anywhere near a football game. Throw in a gratingly smug Collinsworth and a shellshocked Bettis and you have a recipe for a catastrophe. Seriously. This is awful television.

Primetime is as good as it ever was (maybe better) and worth waiting for....

The question is why?Why does Baseball get a free run? How many of us would choose baseball over ANY of the football games played today. Hell, even with no football, I'm STILL not watching that waste of space of a game on Fox (and I wish that Fox would quit trailing baseball in the middle of football  )

OK, I am going to go the other way here.

1. I like the premis of Football night in AMerica...you may have been out all day as a lot of folks have kids and cannot sit there and watch 10 hours of football like the rest of us. They do what they need to do during th eday and they get treated to what usually is a decent game on Sunday Night. It's a good concept and I have bought into it.

2. I like the way the game is broadcasted. It looks good, the music when they go to commercials is good, the announcing booth seems good. I know Madden and Michaels rub some the wrong way but I have gotten used to it and I don't blare it too much but then again sometimes the commentary is awesome. When madden was gushing over what Jamal WIlliams, NT for the Chargers did a couple weeks ago against Pitt...great stuff..."You want to play DT in the NFL, that's how you play DT in the NFL"...or something close to that.

3. OK, the pregame needs work but Costas and Collinsworth do inside the NFL on HBO and I think that's a great show...you can really catch up with that during the week. They need work on the show. The menus they hold in their hands are terrible. Sharpe is terrible...sticvk him on the sidelines during the game...Bettis is fine. I don't think he says anything most of us don't already know but he smiles and is enjoyable, I'm not sure why people hate on him in the studio.

I think they need someone to combat with Collinsworth who won't cry and will debate him. CC has strong views and I always respect him even though he has an ego...he's good for TV. They need a former NFL COACH in the studio. Ditka is great for ESPN, they need a former coach. Or a former GM or someone that has worked the front office in the NFL.

OK, good thread, I like SNF, and I think it blows they bow to baseball...I have not watched one pitch of the World Series...not a one.

I posted this last week:

I've learned that I can't stand seeing NBC's "Football Night in America". -Quit flapping your gums (too much babbling......too many people trying to talk)-show MORE Hi-LIGHTS.........less shots of 40 and 50 yr old's in suits sitting in front of the camera-show MORE ANALYSIS as to WHY certain plays worked (isolate great blocks, point out defensive schemes, etc.)-Shorten the conversations with Al Micheals and John Madden..........their going to get 3 hours for pete's sake........just introduce the SNF game and move on!-When you put the final score up on the screen........show QB, RB, and WR STATS. Right now, they only give you 1 player.........that's it? (they must hate fantasy players)Very frustrating to watch this program. I have begun to tape it and then FFD thru the crap. And the "good" crap isn't that very good. The only redeemable new thing that I like is the snipets of the press conferences ("From the Mic"?)

During the noon game (central time zone), a commercial for game 2 of the Worls Series was shown on Fox. My wife turns to me and asks "did the World Series start already?" "I dunno," I responded. And that was that. No one cares. Seriously.

Well, Oakland were not playing Denver yesterday - but even if they were, I'd still take that in preference to ANY baseball game.

it makes sense for both sports to work together and not have their major events overlap with each other.

How long does this contract with NBC last anyhow? At least we can start counting the days it might change back.. :(

 where did you get that from?do you think it makes sense for the world series and the primetime telecast of football to compete?plenty of days / time to share.

What does football get out of the arrangement given that their "big game" is unaffected by baseball?

both sports get undivided ratings. the NFL defers one sunday night game a year for a world series game. i would imagine there is some reciprocity for that (i.e. world series does not play any games on a monday to conflict with MNF).why does the NFL not start playing on saturdays until college football is over (or close to it)? same concept. they could cannibalize each other's ratings but there is no point.sports shouldn't get into fights over the prime times to play and marginalize each others ratings and ultimately advertising revenue. they are slitting their own throats for no reason.
