For everyone crying about the weather...and Benching Studs... (1 Viewer)

Ministry of Pain

I seem to recall Miami and Buffalo getting involved in some wicked snow storms in Buffalo during the playoffs and late season. Some of those games were like 44-34 final score. Those teams had HoF QBs like Kelly and Marino also but there are some of the same situations popping up today. Talent is talent and you are being a fool if you just leave these guys on your bench. If there were 70 MPH winds, I might understand. 25-30 is troubling but Brady will have those winds at his back for at least part of the game.

There are a lot of people tHat are sending me PMs asking if it makes sense to start Fred Jackson over Randy Moss, or Derek Hagan over Lee Evans, and the list keeps going. I would not be removing players simply because of weather unless you have a great option #2...like if for some reason you have Brady and Favre for instance...yes, I would play Favre in the dome but it still might bite you in the end.

Relax folks

Hopefully, some of those folks are my opponents. :hophead:

MOP has earned the right to make these comments. Slippery weather favors the offense. THey know where they are goiong, the defense doesn't. Only questions are the QBs ability to grip the ball and receivers ability to look up through snow or rain on the long patterns.

That said, I'm going for Berrian in the dome with a weak QB over Lee Evans in the ice storm in Cleveland. If all you're going to do is take the advice of some FB site, why play?

Starting Brady but my other options is Edwards who has weather as a factor too. Just can't see benching Moss so starting him too. Leaving Gaffney on the bench though.

I beat the Tom Brady owners this week. LOL. Who would have thought week 15 against the Jets Brady puts up a stinker. Onward to championship week I go.

Obviously the "never" bench your studs theory is junk. I'm the only one to blame for making the choice I did, but regardless of their "stud" status, there are times when they need to ride the pine. Today should have been one of them. Hopefully the rest of my team can make up for my blunder. If not a fantastic fantasy year will have been a waste..

Marino and Kelly were involved...1990/1991, somewhere in there. I'm not linking it for you because it wouldn't matter in your mind anyways.

I addressed that in post #3, but thanks for reposting.

Just food for thought, but I'm thinking this thread would have gone a little better had the title not been so animus i.e., instead of using "crying," I would have tried "worried." It just opens the topic in a nicer tone. FWIW.

And so I contribute to the actual topic, I lean towards starting your studs no matter the weather (short of a hurricane or tsunami). Playing the match-ups for 2nd tier guys is the way to usually go, but with limited studs on our team, you have to hope they play through adverse conditions like they normally do (tough DEFs, etc.) and always keep them in. It's not about being lucky from week-to-week, it's about being unlucky when said stud has a bad game. Brady and Romo cost me today at an inopportune time, but starting Kitna or Cutler over one of those two would not have been an option in my mind -- I wish I had, but unless my crystal ball starts working, there's no way I would have known.

To sum it up, Brady and Romo are studs; Brady failed in tough weather, Romo played poorly in great conditions. It's just unlucky.

Started Warner over D.Anderson and damn glad i did....warner had 26 points...D.A had 5....the difference between winning and losing this week....bad weather is just that ... BAD

 The Cleveland game was definetely the one to be careful with. I also benched DA this mernin after seeing that mad crazy doppler loop surrounding Cleveland. Started VY and scored 22 instead of 5. I'm up by 13 :)

The interesting thing about fantasy football is that there are no guarantees, much like life. The best you can do is play the percentages. Bad weather can be and IS a factor that should at least be taken into consideration.

Sometimes, you can make the "right" decision, and still have it turn out poorly. That doesn't mean you shouldn't play the percentages. If you had to decide between Favre & Brady, Favre might have been the better choice - and WAS, in hindsight. Choosing Shaun Hill over Tom Brady, would have been a poor choice - even though it would have worked out, in hindsight.

 Not enough people realize that the "right" choice won't always have the best results.
