For Gates Owners (1 Viewer)

He's not being utilized like in the past. I wonder if he's staying in and blocking more (helping the rookie tackle)? I drafted him pretty high and am not pleased.

i agree he isn't what he used to be, for now. different qb always means that. brees loved him. however, no TEs are producing this year, at all. i think gates will be back to close to normal by end of the season. rivers needs to get used to him as a playmaker.

And funny enough, this was supposed to be the year of the TE. Go figure.

I certainly hope so. But yes, Rivers still needs time to sort out all of his duties in situations before he can feel like he's ready to put his game on a more relaxed level and "know" where a guy will be without having to actually search, if you can call the NFL relaxed. That TD sure helped close a gap in a game for me though. I'd like another, please.btw - isn't Gates listed as a WR in yahoo leagues? (where's the :duck: simile?)

i understand that he went 3/55/1 but that is just not acceptable considering his adp. i just think gates owners did not expect this much of a drop off

According to the announcers last night that's exactly what they have been doing.

:(

I was discussing Gates with a guy in league that I'm in where he has Gates. He said he saw an interview where Gates mentioned that he likes having Rivers as a QB better than Brees because Rivers is taller. Gates said that with Brees, he couldn't always see where he was in the mass of the rush and sometimes the ball would just appear out above the bodies. With Rivers, he can see where he is. So you'd think it would be easier for Rivers to connect if Brees was connecting nearly blindly.

As was discussed above, it must be the extra blocking duties that is causing the drop-off.

Gates has uncharacteristically dropped some passes this year, too. He should have had a TD against the Titans, as well as another long reception. Also, LT overthrew him against the Raiders when he was wide open in the end zone.Gates could very easily have another 100 yards and two touchdowns this season.

I don't know - McNeil looked pretty good last night.

I wouldn't be too worried... Rivers looked really good last night, and part of Gates' lack of production were two blowout wins and a bye. 3/55/1 isn't great, but McNeil will slowly be able to do without help on the line.
