I'm in a zealot league...we play for pride. We even have guys fly in from other states to stay in this league.
We have for 12 years had: 53 man rosters (our drafts have lasted 12-15 hours), IDP's (3/4 defense plus 2 CB and 2 S or a 4/3 defense with the same), multiple offensive sets (pro-set, shotgun w/4 WR's, etc).
We are a PPR league for all skill positions.
Well this year we are making major changes...we are going to an auction. We decided to make draft day only 450 selections (45 picks per 10 teams). Then add 2 players per week during preseason.
We are using a contract league, with 1-5 year contracts.
year 2 goes up 5%, year 3 10%, year 4 15% and year 5 20% (these are cumulative). we are using a $1000 cap.
so if LT goes for $100 at draft and is signed to a 5yr deal...his salary in year 5 is $159 and change.
We set a penalty that if any player is cut, then you subtract the value of his last year's contract from the current...and that is your dead cap money for next year's draft.
MY QUESTION? If anyone is in a similar league where dollar values go up in a contract...what have you learned? I mean I look back at the top RB's 5 years ago and alot has changed...i don't wanna be stuck with someone.
Should I sign up and coming players to a 5 year deal? I'm thinking of players like Cedric Benson.
anyway...I'd appreciate any input. We do have this one caveat: any QB, WR or Rb signed for less than $10 cannot be signed to more than a 3 year deal.
this is to keep a player like Willie Parker who may have gone for a dollar last year be signed to a 5 year deal and only counting a 1.60 against the cap.
thanks...i'll await your posts!
