IMO the Toronto Maple Leafs have the best fans. Sell out their stadium, sell a ton of merchandise and have been bad for most of the last 40 years.
Forbes Magazine released a study Monday that ranks the best sports fans in America.
Absolute attendance (either home or away) is probably not the best parameter to use. Did they use absolute attendance as their criteria? Obviously, stadium capacity and population size vary from city to city. For home attendance, I would be more interested in the average attendance/stadium capacity. For road, I would like to see the percent increase in attendance (compared to the average) in the opposing stadiums. Or something to that effect........The criteria they used was ######ed. Why would you use road attendance? A team like the Phillies gets killed using that metric, they have to play the Marlins, Braves and Nationals who have terrible home attendance and apart from Washington, is not an easy travel for Philly fans due to distance.IMO the Toronto Maple Leafs have the best fans. Come on, Yankees behind the Cleveland Cavaliers? Tell me how great that fanbase is next season. My only question looking at is, where are the Bruins? We couldn't get them in the top 4?Here's the listThe top 16 teams:IMO the Toronto Maple Leafs have the best fans. It's based on winning and the Bruins haven't won much lately. A #1 seed, out in the first round. A 3-0 series lead, vanished. The Spurs being on any list of best fans is a joke. I was joking about the Bruins, in light of the heavy Boston influence on the list. Maybe the Connecticut Sun should have made it too. It's based on winning and the Bruins haven't won much lately. A lot of those teams on the list travel really well also and it often has little to do with how good the team is. Pittsburgh and Detroit have huge native populations that are elsewhere now, we show up in force in Phoenix, Dallas and in the sun belt.
Also I agree, Montreal/Toronto hockey fans>>>every one else
Is this your deal just complain about all things Boston? Pats were in Super Bowls in 1986 and 1997. Kraft bought the Pats in the early 90's, hired The Tuna who was followed up with Pete Carroll. The stands were a bit bare in the 80's but the 90's forward not so much. And you're right. Red Sox fans are terrible. There was no fanbase until 2004. Could pretty much get a ticket for a slice of pizza before that.Smack Tripper said:The same fans who have caused double digit ratings drops on TV and Radio this year? To me, I think Cleveland Browns fans are the greatest in America, not only have they been abused, almost masochistically through the years(seeing their team leave, winning a bowl with Ozzie Newsome under another name) but you could set your watch by their rebuildling efforts but they still keep coming and stay passionate. My other issue with the list is, Pats fans ranked 7th in the country? The same Murph and Sully's who didn't know there was a team in New England until 2001? And for a team with their success, there is a surprising lack of a national following. I guess time will bear that out, maybe yesterday's teenagers will grow up to be the 20 something in the bars. I would put the Steelers over the sox, their following, while bandwagon like any other successful team, is amazing. Its amazing how there is a steeler bar in every city.
Come on thin skin, you don't find this amusing that in the same week they are called the greatest fans in the world, it announced the ratings are in the crapper? That isn't being anti-Boston, thats being pro-irony. I admitted the Sox fans are great, but I will dispute them being number one. I can only vouch for the NY area, and you certainly saw a lot more Sox hats in these parts begining in the fall of 2003. It's hardly preposterous to think you picked up bandwagon fans like any other championship team. As for the NFL, the Patriots ranking is just a joke. Do you really think its a better fan base than the Cowboys? Than the Giants who were sold out since 1976 when they had a 4-10 teams? Than the Vikes who've never won a bowl and keep selling out their building? The Boston connection to this list is what seems to be a bit of a high ranking for 3 teams from there. I'll give you the Celts, I'll argue on placement for the Sox, but the Patriots, thats just crazy talk to put them that high. Once Brady and Belichek bail in the next 2 or 3 years, we'll see how great that fanbase is.Is this your deal just complain about all things Boston? Pats were in Super Bowls in 1986 and 1997. Right around the time the Yankees balloon to 285M?Phillies at 15? It wasn't that long ago that you could get Phillies tickets in packs of hot dogs! Yes.....they have become a traveling fan base and sell out Citizens Bank.....but let's see the pop they get when the Utley's and the Howards are no longer there.

Bogus list. So the "best fans in America" are either Cowboy fans, Canadien fans, LeBron fans or fans of teams that have won championships in the last five years. Go figure. I'm an Oilers fan who lives in Southern Ontario, so I know a lot of Leafs and Habs fans...and I'd say the Habs fans are better for the simple fact that they won't put up with losing too long.Leafs fans have losing in their blood...they're always waiting for the other shoe to drop.Bogus list. I actually would give Habs fans credit here for making the list while not winning anything in almost two decades. Same for Cowboy fans, but then I am bias there.I'm an Oilers fan who lives in Southern Ontario, so I know a lot of Leafs and Habs fans...and I'd say the Habs fans are better for the simple fact that they won't put up with losing too long.Leafs fans have losing in their blood...they're always waiting for the other shoe to drop.
