Former Alabama FB Le'Ron McClain arrested on drug charges in Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama -- Former Alabama and NFL player Le'Ron McClain was arrested on synthetic drug trafficking charges Wednesday night, Tuscaloosa police say.

McClain was arrested in downtown Tuscaloosa just two hours after police said he might have fled the state to avoid arrest.

After finding 122 grams of synthetic marijuana, or spice, on McClain during the course of another investigation, the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force told him Wednesday afternoon a warrant was forthcoming.

When Tuscaloosa police arrived at his home at 5 p.m. Wednesday to serve the warrant, McClain's mother told officers he had left the state.

He was arrested around 7:50 p.m. on one count of trafficking in synthetic controlled substances and will be booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $500,000 bond, police said.

McClain, a seven-year NFL veteran, was cut by the Chargers in March. He played at the University of Alabama from 2003-2006.
