Former US Ambassador Susan Rice goes off on Snoop Dog over Gayle King comments (1 Viewer)

Never a fan of Susan Rice, but good for her here.

Susan Rice was the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations for four years. But on Friday, she put all diplomacy aside for a double-barreled blast at Snoop Dogg in defense of CBS anchor Gayle King. The rapper had slammed King for asking WNBA star Lisa Leslie about rape accusations against the late Kobe Bryant, saying, “Respect the family and back off—before we come get you.” King then began receiving death threats, according to Oprah Winfrey. That’s when Rice stepped in with a warning of her own for Snoop.

“This is despicable,” she tweeted. “Gayle King is one of the most principled, fair and tough journalists alive. Snoop, back the **** off. You come for @GayleKing, you come against an army. You will lose, and it won’t be pretty.”

The beatification and canonization of Kobe is serious business.  He was a very flawed man.  I am too.  He was a skilled basketball player, me, not so much.

Pretty good tweet thread by Yashar Ali wondering where all the media is on this attack.

Yashar Ali@yashar

2. I’d like to know where all the reporters (particularly White House reporters) are who rush to defend colleagues against even the most minor of attacks. Many of them are silent when it comes to what @GayleKing has faced this week from vicious trolls & famous people like Snoop

Wait what?  The White House reporters...are probably reporting on the white house and not a media spat with Snoop Dog.  Just a hunch.

April Ryan reference. She’s the most famous African American woman in journalism besides King and is silent. And go look at her twitter feed, she doesn’t just “stick to the White House.”

I think a more significant story was the Wapo journalist who was suspended for retweeting an old story about the accusation against Bryant. She was later reinstated, but again it's mob influence on free speech and free reporting. Most especially it should not be tolerated by any elected officials and that's of a higher order than musicians as well.

Yeah this Kobe as an untouchable saint junk has got to go. Obviously there is some nuance here, for example..

What Gayle King is catching heat for is very different than what say... Somnez did.

It is now several days later. Somnez couldnt wait to point out Kobe was flawed and then she took no ownership of it by saying whats the big deal here its not even my article...then she made it about her.

King's question was valid and I think the answer she received is important to the tale of the redemption of Kobe Bryant which seems to have been what happened with his life.

Sure, she still had the right to say it and not be suspended for it, and it's about succumbing to the noise and intimidation.

So your problem is she isn't speaking up quick enough.  Got it.  Using this to bash the white house media...interesting angle.

The term "African American" is so dated.  Don`t know anyone under 40 who uses that term anymore

Gayle is neither principled or tough  based on her response to this bruhaha.  Had she pushed back I would have supported her entirely but she kicked the can down the road to her employer

That was Yashar’s tweet, and yes I agree with it. His larger point is where is everybody else? You don’t think it’s strange Snoop calls King a bunch of names I can’t post and nobody is coming to her defense?

It’s worth noting that Ali is retweeting some reporters stating pushback and support for King, including Jake Tapper and one from NBC who said she would not have been aware of it.

I think Dunkin Donuts should reconsider Broadus’ sponsorship too.

Agree, Gayle should come right back at Snoopy but instead blamed her employer for playing that clip.  Puzzling indeed.

I was wondering if POC had taken over.
No because that constitutes many different races.  The POC thing seems to be a bit contrived to as assemble all of us non-whites against "the man"

A lady I work with is from India, and one time was referred to as a POC, she snapped back.  I am not a POC, but a woman from India. I guess it was a bit offensive.
