Frank Gore Week 16 Injury Thread (1 Viewer)

Any news would be welcome and with the 49ers playing the Rams, I know a lot of us would love to see him back.
From MFL News:(TheHuddle) The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore (ankle) missed the team's Week 15 game and his availability for Week 16 is in question.Analysis: Gore is looking more and more likely not to play this week, or at least be very limited. With the Niners living more off the passing game, there is less pressure to bring him back fast, especially with the season done in two weeks. Have backup plans if you have Gore. DeShaun Foster will likely start.I don't see how they think Gore is "more and more likely not to play", but take it for what it's worth. I really need him to play this week!

i honestly wouldnt mind if gore rested again and foster got the start. wasnt it the last 9ners v. rams game where they got up so big they benched gore? i realyl doubt theyd bench foster. and foster was prety effective v. the dolphins last week.

who knows, but id hate to start gore on my team only to have him play a half.

latest news: Dec 17

Frank Gore will not practice today and, once again, he is iffy for Sunday's game in St. Louis. "It just depends," Singletary said of Gore's availibility. I would say that right now, yes, hopefully he has a chance to play."

I'm praying he's out this week.I'll let you know if it works.
Hehe, I'm praying he's in this week. Not because I want to start him. But because my opponent just picked up Foster to start for our Championship game.

I think most Gore owners would just prefer he sits this one out. He could very easily re injure that ankle and be out for most of the game even if he does start.

You got that right. No way he find the field this week.

Really? You think Gore owners don't want to use him the week of their superbowl against the lowly Rams? Maybe save him for week 17's fantasy pro bowl? I'm confused. Maybe if you qualified it as 'IF they had Foster or a top backup RB' I would understand.

I have to set my lineup tomorrow and I may just play Foster over guys like LJ and Barber.
Foster's getting the nod over the Addai/Rhodes mess, rollin the championship dice on this one. I'll keep everyone posted.

I think what he meant was Gore owners are thinking, "What a relief, I don't have to make this decision in week 16, the decision has been made for me."

The bad part is that Indy plays on Thursday.... I'm liking Foster over Addai/Rhodes myself UNLESS Addai sits BUT deciding to bench them on Thursday is a pretty big risk. What if Gore then plays on Sunday??? Then Foster's value is pretty low.

Is Foster a #1 if Gore is declared out?
No, but he's probably a nice #2 with that matchup.
Starting Foster over Portis cuz if you ask me 20 caries with a backup RB against STL, is still better then Portis with 25 carries against Philly. I mean after all, Portis has not crossed the stripe in 8 weeks!

I am going through the same agony as most of you are. I have Gore, but I picked up Foster earlier this week as back-up insurance. But at this point, I would prefer if Gore did not play this week simply for the safety factor of him re-injuring his ankle. I would hate to stick him in the lineup and have him only take a few snaps and sit out the rest of the game. At least with Foster, we know he is healthy and could easily put up solid numbers against the crappy Rams defense.

Let's all say a small prayer tonight that Gore's ankle starts acting up.

Fantasy football sure is miserable, but great.

You draft top notch talent like Gore,Barber,Jacobs only to have them miss the ONE or TWO games you really need them too.

Sportsline is worthless with their player updates, their newest update just punted with their Gore/Foster analysis. Figuratively, "Well, maybe he might play?"

News: 49ers RB Frank Gore did not practice Wednesday as the team prepares for Week 16 at St. Louis because of a sprained ankle. He missed Week 15 against the Dolphins, but coach Mike Singletary sounded a bit optimistic Wednesday that Gore could return Week 16. "It just depends," Singletary said. "I would say right now, yes. Hopefully, he has a chance to play, but at the same time, it'll be a day-by-day again." If Gore is out, DeShaun Foster would start for Gore again.

Analysis: Foster had 18 carries for 76 yards and caught five passes for 25 yards in a Week 15 loss at Miami. He would be considered a No. 2 Fantasy RB if Gore is out.

Spot on analysis here Sportsline, really provided the facts to end all debate.

I have Gore/Foster in a championship game. Semis last week I played neither.

I put in Choice in Gores spot and he won the game for me on that late TD run!

This week I am playing Foster. Sitting Gore! (Even if Gore plays)

Gore wasn;t produceing much even before injury. Not worth the risk.

I figure Foster even as a back up has a better chance to produce then Gore.

I am also playing Choice! I just love the way that guy looks even against BALT d.

Per Rotoworld:

Frank Gore-RB- 49ers Dec. 18 - 2:27 pm et

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, 49ers coach Mike Singletary said after Wednesday's practice that he expects Frank Gore (ankle) to play in Week 16.

This wasn't mentioned in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat or Sacramento Bee, which only indicated that Singletary was cautiously optimistic about Gore facing St. Louis. Fantasy owners still need to track the situation because Gore will likely be a game-time decision. But things are looking up for now.

I'm am praying Frank Gore is able to play even though I don't own him. My opponent's running backs are Marshawn Lynch, DeShaun Foster, Darren Sproles, and Fred Jackson. He has to start two of them.

just found this news today:

Running back Frank Gore plans to test out his ankle some this afternoon with the team’s athletic training staff, and claims he’s 50-50 for Sunday’s road contest against the Rams.

“I’m going to go out today and try and do some movements on the turf out there, see how it feels. But I think I’ll be fine,” said Gore.

Gore came off the field after the team’s morning walk-thru without so much a limp, something that couldn’t be said last week when he missed the game in Miami.

Gore needs just 22 yards to get to his third straight 1,000-yard rushing season, something he’d like to get done this weekend.

“The doctor said he feels like if I played I can’t do too much to it. He doesn’t think it can get any worse. It’s just about me strengthening it and getting my mind right. Trusting it and going out there and playing.”

From 49ers.com

Running back Frank Gore did test his ankle some today with the athletic training staff, but Singletary said he probably won’t have him practice on Friday.

“It’s more about rehab right now than anything else,” said Singletary, who expects it to be another game time decision as to whether or not Gore will go.

As we saw last night with Addai and Rhodes, a decision to have a player active doesn't mean much. Ideally they will identify who the starter is before the game, like they did last night. I picked up Foster for a flex play this week, and figure if he starts I go with him, if not, it is Chester Taylor, who's flown under the radar on lists the past few weeks.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat calls Frank Gore's (ankle) chances of playing in Week 16 "remote" and doesn't expect him to be a big factor even if he is active.

This differs drastically from what the other San Francisco papers are saying, but Press Democrat writer Matt Maiocco is the 49ers' best beat writer and is worth trusting. Maiocco expects DeShaun Foster to start at St. Louis. That said, we still wouldn't feel comfortable using Foster if Gore is active. Gore is the ultimate gamer and Foster has very little left in the tank. | 12/19/2008 5:22:00 PM

WOW. Not saying you're wrong, but just WOW.
I dropped Chr Johnson to pick up Foster for this week(it's our last week)Of course I wasn't going to play CJ3 anyway.

Foster will start in front of both Portis and R Brown.........right alongside S Jax and P Thomas.

Funny that I'm starting two waiver guys in my final(playing for 3rd)

I own both Gore and Foster. Hoping like hell that Gore rests the ankle another week. Honestly... the last time that they played against St. Louis, Gore didn't even finish the game, because they were blowing them out, and Gore was actually healthy then. They would be pulling Gore from this game so fast, and that doesn't even take into account the fact that even if he is active he may not play.... and even if he starts, his injury may act up on him early anyways. This isn't the week that I want to worry about those kinds of things.

Bump for Gore updates prior to the game tonight. Le'Ron McClain may need to see the field for me this week

I'm in the same boat, its either mcclain, foster, or GULP pj pope. But its ppr so I'm almost definitely going to have to take the safe route and roll with mcclain. 20 touches for 45 yards haha.

*** Friday Update *** RB Frank Gore (SF) did not practice on Friday and is questionable to play in Week 16. He did do some individual work and will be a game time decision. Gore tested the injury under the supervision of the team's training staff.

"He just warmed up a little more, stretched it a little bit more," coach Mike Singletary said. "We're hoping for the best. He's had a lot of rest this week and last week. Hopefully, we can get some response there."

Do we really need to bump this every half hour? Nothing will be known until tomorrow morning anyway, and I'm sure someone will post when new info is out.
