FREE SELVIN YOUNG! (1 Viewer)

Bumping for those of us on the Travis Henry suspension watch. Post updates here.

Then we can all go on the "How injured is Selvin Young?" watch.

How long does an appeal ruling usually take?

I would have thought about 5 minutes, surprised we haven't heard anything, yet.

This is what I thought. They had all weekend plus yesterday, you think they'd have a decision by now. Are they still in Arizona, perhaps this is being affected by being in a different time zone. My thinking is that if it's taking this long, maybe Henry actually won the appeal?

Last night during the game, the sideline reporter said she had a conversation with Henry's lawyer and quoted him as saying "the preceding went very, very well."

I read an article (I think it was NFL.com) that Henry said the same thing. What I also read in that article was that it said Henry passed a urine test a couple days before and after the failed test.ETA Link: http://www.milehighreport.com/story/2007/11/17/195745/12

No way you can cheat those urine tests.......

Adam Schefter said on NFL Total Access last week that he expected a decision to either come down today, and, if not, the decision would not be issued until the following Tuesday. He said the NFL doesn't want to issue a decision in the middle of the week since that would affect the Broncos' game planning. So, if we don't get a decision today, I think we will have to wait until next Tuesday.

Chris Mortenson predicted on NFL Countdown last night that Henry would lose his appeal -- although he is not a lawyer and his prediction was based purely on speculation.

I'm just stating what I read. And the fact that if it was so open and shut as everyone thinks, you have to consider that they may actually let him get off.

The Rocky Mountain News reports Denver Broncos RB Travis Henry (sprained left knee), who faces a one-year suspension for violation off the league's substance-abuse policy, expects to hear from the NFL on his appeal as early as today. Henry met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Friday. "It was a good outcome," Henry said when asked about his hearing. "I think my lawyer prepared and everything was good. I feel good about it." Henry tested positive for marijuana in August, his third offense. The Broncos had Henry do hair-sample tests and take a lie-detector to help clear the player's name. But the league's rules hinge on a urine test, which he allegedly failed with trace amounts of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.
Nothing new, but latest off the press...

DENVER - Just four days after Denver Broncos Running Back Travis Henry participated in a hearing to fight the results of a positive marijuana test, a source with first-hand knowledge of the situation said they believe Henry has a chance at winning his appeal on a technicality.

“He’s got a shot to win this. They [the National Football League] f****d up,” said the inside source.

Last Friday, at the downtown Hyatt in Phoenix Arizona, lawyers defended Henry’s case in his requested appeal hearing.

Prior to the appeal hearing, Henry’s lawyers asked the League to turn over all documents related to Henry’s latest positive test result that existed two weeks prior to, and two weeks after the actual test, the source said.

“Henry’s lawyers asked [the League] ‘is this all?’ They were told ‘yes.’ They asked again, ‘is this all?’ They were told, ‘yes.’ Well it was not all,” the source revealed.

The same source said -to their knowledge- it was unknown that there were un-produced materials in the discovery process prior to the appeal.

The source said this miscue may be enough to allow the hearing officer to rule in Henry’s favor, and thereby result in the Broncos running back escaping a one-year suspension.

“It’s an issue of fairness. If the players are held to a strict stance, everybody else has to abide by the same policy.”

“Did it have an effect? Maybe, or maybe not. The fact is, it could have potentially affected his case.”

This sentiment comes despite the fact that Henry tested positive for marijuana with a result of 21ng/ml. The League’s benchmark is 15ng/ml.

When asked if the hearing officer might recommend a shorter suspension as a compromise, given the lack of complete discovery, the source expressed doubt.

“My guess is that it’s going to be all or nothing,” they said. “I don’t think that the hearing officer has the power to modify the suspension [length].”

“The only reason why [Henry] would have a favorable ruling is because of that screw up.”

On November 12th, Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan defended the innocence of his starting running back after announcing that Henry had passed both a lie detector and hair sample test.

However, the source does not believe the team-scheduled tests will have any bearing on the hearing officer’s decision.

According to the source, the line of questioning from the lie detector test was introduced as evidence during the appeal hearing, but it was not impressive.

“There were questions like…‘did you smoke a marijuana joint between these such and such dates?”

“What’s wrong with that? It doesn’t ask you if you smoked the marijuana from a bong or a pipe,” answered the inside source.

“The question should have been, did you knowingly ingest marijuana,” explained the source.

“There is a reason why the League doesn’t use hair sample tests and lie detector tests; they’re not reliable,” opined the source.

Henry has said that a decision on his appeal is expected as early as Tuesday.

Calls to Henry’s lawyers were not immediately returned for this report.

Interesting....

O.K......even IF Henry wins the appeal, does anyone get the feeling that Shanny may play the same games that he has in years past?

If Henry comes back here is what owners will be dealing with:

1. Most Denver RB's are banged up

2. Henry wasn't lighting the world on fire when he was in there. He had the yards but minimal TD's

3. Selvin Young has filled in pretty well but can't stay healthy.

Since I have dealt with Shanny's games in the past, just a gut feeling that this doesn't look too good.

If Henry wins the appeal and is healthy, he starts and gets the vast majority of the carries. Of that I'm 100% certain.

Agreed. It's not like Young has been dominate. He has had one good game, and a couple solid games. Nothing spectacular, and I'm fairly certain that if Henry had played in those games (and was healthy) he'd most likely produce better stats.

Will he get healthy in time to help people make playoffs?? Thats the question. He's been nursing various injuries for over a month now. Or will he be this annoying gimp that gives Young/Henry owners headaches every week?

Most likely the latter.

No Henry announcement today

By Bill Williamson

The Denver Post

Article Last Updated: 11/20/2007 03:28:28 PM MST

There will be no announcement on a ruling on Travis Henry's appeal hearing today, meaning the running back will likely be available to face the Bears on Sunday if healthy.

A league spokesman said there will be no announcement made today. Under usual league guidelines, once the work week starts on Wednesday and teams start preparations for the next game in earnest there are no rulings that affect personnel.

Thus, Denver likely won't hear Henry's fate until next Monday at the earliest. He had his appeal on a pending one-year suspension for marijuana heard Friday in Phoenix.

Henry has missed the past two games with a knee injury.

I love how we jump to conclusions in FF. Selvin has a mild knee sprain, comes back into the game and appears to be fine going forward, but somehow we still assume he's fragile because of one inconsequential injury.

People are quick to apply the fragile label to anyone who gets injured. They tend to forget the humanity of the people on the field and how difficult this game is...how absurdly brutal it is. They also forget how their own injuries have prevented them from doing things. Yet even in the face of that, they whine about how so-and-so is being a baby and not playing. It gets so tiring. Playing through a nagging injury is not being a man...it is being stupid.

I believe they are referring to his injuries throughout college. (I'm not sure but I vaguelly recall last night on MNF them featuring how he was always hurt in college and is dampened his career)

It'd be better if he were hurt. It'd be a quick end for those owners looking for lightning in a bottle.
