Funeral Processions - People Don't Give a F Anymore? (1 Viewer)

I don't think this is common for my situation, but I guess it can happen.  There is a funeral home on-site at the one next to me.  In a situation where there isn't one on site I suppose this could be the reason for the migration.
I would guess that 8 out of the last 10 I have been to went from a funeral home to the cemetery.

It's always been the hazard lights around here.
And that's what I expected, but they asked for hazard lights and high beams.  I was surprised that they asked us to put on the high beams, but maybe that was because of so many cars with daytime running lights.

When I die I would like to be cremated and could not give a rat's behind what's done with the remains.

But... this thread has given me a great idea.  I now what a day-long funeral procession back and forth through the city, running lights, hazards, clown cars.  Hire drivers and drag it out all day.  Maybe have the casket fall (shoot?) out of the back of a hearse at a major intersection once or twice.  I want it so crazy local news stations call in the helicopters for overhead shots.
My wish is to be cremated in Miami, and I want the Funeral procession to drive to Bellingham, WA (no highways, all side roads, 25MPH limit ).  I want Mancini's Baby Elephant Walk to be blasting on repeat out of a giant speaker on top of the lead car, and I want 1% of my ashes to be shot out the sunroof via an comically ornate antique diffuser every 34 miles.   should be about 6 days of driving and hopefully I can get 100,000+ people who have to get out of the way and/or wait.

Of course it is and happens all the time.

Honest to God, when the funeral director told me that my headlights should be turned on my immediate response was, "Um..." while I looked for the switch.
LOOK AT ME, I DRIVE A FANCY CAR WITH AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS!

the funeral home near me gives everybody Big Orange Flags to attach to your window
I like this idea, but it would be even better to use car top signs like some pizza delivery cars use. Maybe make digital signs that could be changed for the funeral.

For example:

Brun
Procession to Heaven
GoldenPalace.com Funeral Home

It's literally been 10+ years since I've seen one of these.  I'm guessing most people just didn't know what was going on.

They're just outdated and not practical in today's times with the ampunt of people and traffic day to day.

What started out as walking behind a casket from the church to the cemetary has now evolved driving miles away from the churxh or funeral home to the cemetary.

NJ is small and so congested that anytime i see one i can't help think how unsafe it is. Especially when people in the procession are hesitant to take a red light and follow.

My cousin had a procession from the funeral home to the cemetary. Her dad is somewhat known in the community, my cousin was 32 and it was sudden so it was a lot of people and had sherriff dept escorts.

The procession was 15 miles over 7-10 towns? (Newark/Westfield)

Busy local streets onto highways. Cops on motorcycles were active and yelling at people trying to merge on to the highway or cut over 1 lane so they can get to the Target entrance.

In this day and age with the influx of people/cars and technology the safer route is sure...follow the leader but obey the traffic laws and ceremony at the cemetery starts at X:XX see you there.

FTR

If i see one going on i put the car in park or pull over but generally speaking at least in my area it cant be safe for the public.

Well screw me then. I had blinders on to this.

I would also point out that people seem totally fine driving to the big after party without a body to lead them.

Well I am not going to inconvenience anyone.  Even though I don't find it an inconvenience to pull over and wait for one to pass.  I have told my wife I want to be cremated then I want everyone to meet at a bar in Cedar Key get drunk(on me) and then walk to the end of the pier and toss me in.
