Future draft picks (1 Viewer)

I'm in my first year of a dynasty league, and looking for some input on what draft picks are worth. I managed to sucker a guy out of his first rounder this year, so I'll have two, but its looking like they'll both be pretty late ( 6-10 of 10 ). What's their value on the market?

Had some moron in my dynasty league who was 0-5 give his pick up for Anthony fugging Gonzalez. Needless to say....it's worth more than that.

Same situation (1st year dynasty) here...

Can you guys offer up suggestions on what type of players would be worth what draft slots?

Examples (prob way off)-- Hines Ward is worth the 20th pick, etc

Actually, there are some threads floating around the Shark Pool that attempt to address this. While a bit tired as advice, do try to search feature on this issue. It may not immediately help if you a current offer on the table, but plenty of this type of discussion occurs once the FF Superbowl is played.

Dammit. Wrong Forum. Sorry Mods/Everyone. Please close/move this one.
No, not the wrong forum as long as this is a general question on the value of picks. There is a fair amount of discussion here in the offseason each year, especially the last two years as dynasty has grown. Do a search on dynasty draft pick value and they'll pop up.

One of the notable early posters on this was Beto, who did some research here:

You'll find that many of the other discussions on the topic will be referencing this thread.

Jeff Pasquino has also done some work on this. Search his name and find his sig; I think he still has a link to something there.

This is more general than you want but.....

Picks are generally worth more to a team trying to rebuild than to a team trying to win now. This can affect who you try to trade with depending on whether you're trying to trade your pick, or trade for a pick.

Picks also generally increase in value up until maybe 2-4 weeks before your rookie draft, so it matters when you trade. In the last 2-4 weeks before the draft people seem to get that "locked in on who I'll get at pick 1.X" mentality and trades are tougher to make.

Other people will be along with more helpful stuff, I'm sure.

The Beto thread I linked above sort of addresses that, by attempting to relate a dynasty rookie draft pick to an initial dynasty draft pick in terms of value. You'd have to know where specific vet players would be drafted to answer your question.Of course, all of this is highly fluid for many reasons. All rookie drafts are not equal for example, nor are league sizes or formats. But Beto offers a decent rule of thumb guideline from which you can begin to make your own value judgments.

Although Fatness is an incredibly stupid guy in general, trust his FF knowledge. He knows things. Uh oh, now Tuba Boy is gonna report me and I'll get banned for calling him stupid and have to do some actual work once in awhile.

1st round pick value also fluctuates over time. The best time to buy rookie picks is during the season - probably between weeks 5 and 10 or so. The best time to sell is during or immediately prior to the league's rookie draft.

It's possible to pick up a mid-1st in October for Chambers, then sell again before the rookie draft for Javon Walker - the value of the pick swings that much.

:goodposting: The Dynasty Draft Pick Calculator can be found in the signature as well as an article explaining what it is all about.

Feel free to ask any questions about it.

Remember to think about this is reverse. Sharp owners are going to try to get picks from you now for the in season price. In various leagues, fantasy players have tried to offer guys like Joey Galloway and Chad pennington for 1sts (well the switch of 1st for a 2nd). In both these cases, I have teams that have .500 or better records with overall scoring that that was in the bottom 1/3 of the league. Essentailly, they are fishing for teeams that could wind up high draft picks with bait for 2nd round players.

Picks are undervalue at this time of yr... especially for those teams that are so so and aren't out of it (but they don't have a championship roster)... those are the teams that are willing to give up their pick (which usually becomes a top 8 pick) cheap...

now if your 0 - 6 or 1 - 5 or even 2 - 4.... I wouldn't move that pick for anyone that isn't Named Calvin / Bush / Addai / ADP... you get my pt
