Game Thread W2 - San Francisco V St.Louis (1 Viewer)

Can someone please explain why Jackson is not getting the ball?
Because they are now down. Like last week when they were down by 1, Jackson got 2 carries over the last 22 minutes. The Rams are too one demensional. The abandon the run too early.
This is incredibly untrue. They ran a lot last year when they were down, and even more, Jackson got a lot of mid-range catches.Small sample size, gentlemen. Relax.

How is this incredibly untrue? They were down 1 point last week and proceeded to run just 2 running plays the final 22 minutes. I said nothing about last year.

Because one game doesn't mean ####. If you don't know that, I can't help you.

Well, they will lose again this week because they can't run the ball when they have to and they rely on the pass too much.

When is Nolan going to take the chains off of A Smith? Other than a couple great Gore runs, the only time SF has moved the ball is when Smith has improvised and has been given the chance to make plays.

Of course, with a chance to create some space at the end of the game, we get three Gore runs (clearly going nowhere).

Jackson is NOT happy with the play calling.. Venting at one of the coaches.

Can't say I blame him, the Rams offense is much more efficient when he is catching and running the ball.

See, they need to be able to run in order to eat the clock. Not have incomplete passes and turn over on downs.

I agree. I do not know why they are not involving Jackson more in the passing game right now.

The way it stands now. St. Louis down by 1 with 18 minutes left- SJAX with 5 rushes. Same thing as last week, same result.

:excited: Why TF did the Niners take Smith in 05 and Davis in 06? The way they are calling plays they should have just gone all defense all the time. UNBELIEVABLE.Handoff to Gore on 2nd and 13?Is there not a play where Davis just releases from the line turns around and catches the ball? Krikey.

Another reason why Bulger throwing ALL the time is not always a goo ddecision, HE CANT RUN annd gets sacks A LOT.

2 rushes over the final 22 minutes last week when only down 1 lost them the game.

5 rushes over the final 18 minutes this week lost them the game.

Nice play calling St. Louis, way to take your best player out of the game and rely on your D, which sucks!

They couldn't run the ball today. I don't think giving Jackson more carries at <3 ypc would have helped

Put Hostler in the box like a real OC and let him see how horrible these playcalls look from upstairs.

A win is a win but that's two in a row with absolutely NO CONFIDENCE in the passing game by the Niners. It's not like they are facing SD or CHI.

I honestly think he gets better with more carries. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is they become one demensional. When that happens it's easy to stop them.

Exactly. Even by calling that last timeout, I think they were showing a lack of confidence in the passing game... "if they make this kick, there's no way we can drive and score with 1 min and a TO"

I know the ypc hasn't exactly been great, but didn't we go through this last year in StL?

Earlier in the year they were pass, pass, pass and they sucked. Down the stretch they were run, run, run and they actually did pretty well W/L wise. Here we are a year later and they're back to pass, pass, pass (40+ pass attempts in both games!) and they suck again?

Do people never learn?

I see your point but he still had a decent number of carries (21). Either the SF defense is really good or I'd be concerned that the STL O-line won't be able to open any holes for him this year

Ugh. Alex Smith is killing me.How bad did he look today?
Actually, I thought he looked pretty good when he had time to throw the ball. Made some very good throws. Last 6mins or so, I think he attempted one pass. Hoss's playcalling was horrible the final two or three drives.....ETA: 11/17 126yrds. I wished they would pass a lil more down the stretch.

The Bucs were averaging just over 1ypc at one point in the second half and still only threw the ball 16 times and came out on top.The Jags ran for under 3ypc and thew it 25 times (next to 37 rushes) and won their game. This game was never out of hand as the defense played well. I don't think StL ever trailed by more than one score so there was no reason to abandon the run like that. I don't know what it is, I just think it the StL coaches get frustrated any time they're not getting 15 yards on a play. If you run it on 1st down and only get 2 yards that's ok. But for StL it's like oh no, better start chucking it downfield. It's so predictable....any run play that doesn't go for 5+ yards is followed up with a pass. There's something to be said for running it again and leaving yourself with 3rd and 4 rather than 3rd and 8 or 3rd and 15 after a sack. That's the other problem. Any sack was basically a drive-killer and when you have a quarterback that has been known to get sacked a lot dropping back 50 times in a game that's a LOT of drive-killers.So basically I guess I'm just saying that I disagree in that I think giving Jackson more carries even if his 3ypc didn't improve (which for a back like him I think that it would have) that WOULD have helped.

:goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: Hopefully it doesn't take them until week 5 to realize that when they abondon the run completely in the 3rd quarter, you are becoming predictable and one-dimensional. I hate that Jackson only gets 1 shot per set of downs, if he doesn't gfet 7 to 8 yds they pass. So frustrating!!!!
